    Trouble is Sunderland havent spent at all this season (Other than McNair and Love from Man Utd)... So it was probably also a statement to the Sunderland owners: Let me sign someone before the window closes else we're in a relegation battle

    Just as well Ranieri didn't take that attitude last season. If it was a message for the board, I'd have expected a more linked reference to the squad / signings.

    Signed a defender from Chelsea for £8m as well, but your right not nearly enough quality to escape a relegation fight.
