    Whelan apologises for his comments.

    Vincent Tan calls Wigan/Whelan racist.

so we must therefore presume that Tan has NEVER uttered a single nasty word, laughed n'er a titter nor ever had derogatory thoughts about a non-Chinese person or people
  • I really don't like Whelan. He came out strongly against giving black coaches the right to interview for related jobs. I'm hardly a bleeding heart liberal but I find the lack of black coaches embarrassing. If you listen to his interviews he's absolutely cringeworthy.

That's very unfair. He said managers should be chosen on merit and that colour was an irrelevance in football.

    ...which I agree with

Interviewing managers because they fill a quota I think is very condescending.

Tan clearly hinting there he has another "drop" ready and waiting for Malky Mackay.....this is a long way from over.
  • Whelan and Mackay belong back in the 1970s - both seem unaware the world has changed.
Whelan is so clueless it's embarrassing - if he had half a brain he'd keep his mouth shut.

I think he broke his brain in the FA Cup final.
  • Whelan owns a restaurant called The Lonestar and most of the staff are black. In fact, 90% at least.
  • How are you 90% black
  • How are you 90% black

    Feet and hands?
  • Just waiting for Whelan to trot out the 'I've got loads of black friends' line.

The interview I heard (5live) was a couple of weeks ago. He must have referred to 'the coloureds' a dozen times and his arguments sounded completely irrational. Like I said I'm no bleeding heart but Whelan came across terribly and that's ignoring what he's said since. I'll try an dig up a link.
  • He's an old man. Black people were referred to as being coloured for years. I don't like the unnecessary ostracisation of people.

Off topic, but Mark Lawrenson looks like he's wearing one of those comedy glasses, nose, tache disguises there.

Or is the 3rd chuckle brother...
  • I don't think it and therefore wouldn't say it. Anyone who does say it obviously thinks it. No defence for me. Wouldn't want Malky anywhere near Charlton.
