  • Extra days rest for both teams.

Will certainly have been agreed by both clubs, and can only assume that Ipswich reckon their gate is not going to be too affected by a night game. Going to slaughter our away turnout though, reckon we'll have about 800 max.
  • No idea, seems strange
  • Yeah I'd have gone today, can't Tuesday eve

Do clubs get the choice of when they can play? If so, you'd have thought every club would rather play Tuesday night instead of playing 2 games in 48 hours.
  • It was originally scheduled for today but was changed all the way back in June. cafc.co.uk/news/article/20140627-changes-to-four-201415-fixtures-1695591.aspx
No reason given for the change though!
  • Dont understand why we played boxing day (no trains) either
  • Cardiff are playing today so couldn't move it to yesterday.
  • Because we are Charlton, and like to be different ! . As for the clubs considering fans let me know when that starts happening. Honestly, would have thought playing today would have significantly bigger crowd than Tuesday. Even more so as they are flying high, and playing a side they would expect to,beat comfortably !

Because football is always played on boxing day, it's called tradition

We aren't the only teams not playing today, maybe Ipswich wanted the game on the Tuesday night to have a chance of being on TV?

Norwich and Ipswich never play at home on the same day.

I'm all for tradition, but things change - It used to be tradition to play on Xmas day, also, I traditionally used to get the train to Charlton games on boxing day

  • Same reason we played at 1 on Boxing Day, to spread the games out.
  • Just to add to the mix - there are no League games on New Years Day due to the FA Cup being only 2 days later although the premier league teams are playing..........but then you may also notice that virtually all their FA Cup games are now being played next Sunday instead.
  • Clubs wanted the extra break between matches. No games till the 3rd so easy for clubs to agree

No local games on the tuesday. So police would not care about them moving it.

Fulham v Brighton had to be moved because QPR are playing Palace so the police moved that to the Monday night.
  • And why are we playing Ipswich again so soon after the home fixture against them? Can't be anything to do with proximity during the festive season otherwise we wouldn't have been playing Cardiff on Boxing Day.

Yes, it's strange that the PL is playing more matches than the Championship over Christmas, when you consider that in the Championship we play 46 instead of 38 games, and have the same international breaks!

  • But the Premiership have taken the TV money so have to play when Sky/BT dictate although the FA will dispute that and say they are in charge.

It's the same for everyone. The fixtures from that weekend last month are being played but in reverse.
  • Ah well couldn't understand why were not playing?
Just off to the pub to watch the Everton game
  • Also more chance of it being called off on a freezing cold Tues evening

Hope not, looking forward to this game.
  • No-one considered that perhaps Ipswich may have known about BL engineering works?
  • So we can sit back and fully enjoy the spanners being hammered by Charlton old-boys.

Premier League games cant be played on a Champions League night though whilst the Championship can play

    Cheers. Hadn't realised that.

Huh. Not just the Premiership. Have you forgotten Orient away, 17.20 on New Years Eve, for the benefit of Sky? I've seen some stupid kick off times and days but that one took the biscuit.
