Yes. Can play wide left, wide right or in an attacking central midfield role. Useful versatility and a good player.

I would rather we signed Bulot, if it was one or the other.

Agreed, though it also depends on what sort of wages both players are asking for

Only if we're getting post ACN Bulot.

I would sign him for a couple of years .

I do not think it is an either or with Bulot , JMG or indeed Harriott .It is a squad game now and Eagles is right footed , they are all lefties so he offers something different .

Remember only 2 years ago he scored 12 goals for Bolton at this level .

Still not convinced, bit of a luxury player.

Wasn't the question though with all respect not digging you out i think most would agree if you had to choose, except me as I haven't seen any games and Bulot was a bit of a whipping boy early on in the season and eagles has been around the championship and prem for a consistent time and you know what you get

I would like to see him next season with us rather than against us,
  • I love it when people describe creative players like Chris Eagles as 'Luxury Players', as if the team is carrying them, and they make no contribution outside of fannying around in a slightly camp style.

Eagles sounds like a modern day 'Bobby Stuart', good experience with some good clubs, and able to play in a number of positions, whilst contributing some useful goals.

Having heard him speak, he sounds hungry and keen to sign, so I'd get him in on a two year deal in a flash.

    unsure
On occasions I think there is a reasonable player in there and on other occasions I think he is applying for the part of the lion in the wizard of oz

Had high (maybe unreasonably so) expectations of him based on reputation and television highlights and have been disappointed. Not convinced yet.

  • It's interesting of the 3 players out of contract, that were signed at about the same time, only one has so far signed (and presumably been offered) a new contract.

Of the other 2, only Johnson has been a regular starter.

I think that says quite a lot about what the coaching staff thinks of Eagles' impact.

And they see him every day. So it certainly implies that he still has a bit to do.
  • I'm not sure in terms of keeping him with us... For any players that join us mid-season though I would like to see them get a full pre-season with the club and see how they start the next season before deciding whether to move the player on and am thinking that may be ideal for Chris Eagles.

i.e. He left Blackpool in January and didnt join us until February so his season has been disrupted in some sense there

Its difficult, he has not really had a run in the team and has been played out of position, but as someone has said the management team should be able to make a judgement.

After Saturday game he said "it's the best I've felt fitness wise because I didn't get a pre season. I'm loving being back down South near my family and I want to be at Charlton for a long time. We're talking and hoping we'll get something settled"

After one of our Posters showed about 20 of his goals over the last 10 years
when we first signed him, the bar was raised too high for a player who had only played 7 games for Blackpool when they were under the cosh, plus training with the U21 at Bolton because they wanted to move him on.

The fact that Eagles best moments at Wednesday were the 15 minutes before he was taken off and with him beginning to look sharp. I guess that Guy took him off because of the 3 games in a week, the same reason Watt only came on in the second Half.

We have not seen the best of Eagles yet but with a full Pre season, at 29 and with bags of experience, nearly 300 games in the Champ and Premiership, Chris could still have a couple of good years ahead of him in the championship.

Daryl Murphy is having his best ever season at Ipswich and he turned 32 last month.

The only question would be money. Eagles would have to accept about 8k
as oppose to the 30k or so he was earning in the Prem at Bolton.
If this could be sorted then we should do it.

    Trust me on this.

Would keep him, decent footballer, good brain on him, scores a goal, and wants to be here, what's not to like?
  • He is a very good championship player with a terrible surname
  • Sign him up. Great option to have.
  • I've been unimpressed with him in recent games. He seems to be a little slow. I'm not saying that he will not be better when he has match fitness but it's a bit of a gamble if his wages are anything more than nominal.

I'm guessing that Blackpool gave him a trial and he was unable to convince them. I'd be worried if we gave him a good contract and he failed to improve based on what I've seen.

Eagles is a light weight tricky winger. That is what nearly all wingers are.
He is obviously a bit of a luxury player, most wingers are.
He will likely perform better at home than away and in a rough kick 'em type game he will likely go missing.
He barely touched the ball at Millwall.

However, he is a skillfull player, with good control and can score goals.
If we can secure him on a decent wage and he wants to be here, then we should definitely sign him.
Play him at home and maybe don't start as many away, in the games where you need to be more solid & battlers are required.

if keeping JBG means not signing eagles and dumping Harriott, then im all for that.Dont think hes been all that, and isnt the sort of player who will look to scrap in games to win us points.

Well he wants to get his thumb out of his a**e when it comes to tackling and/or jumping for headers then.

We already have one passenger in the side dodging those, so we don't need a replacement for when we finally see the back of him in three weeks time.

I'm sorry to ask, but to whom are you referring?
  • he is not a tough tackling hard man, most players in that position are not renowned for that part of football,

He has not exactly set the Thames alight, but he does have great experience and I think he would score a few goals. Sat should have been his third which is not a bad return for a midfielder given his games played. Well worth signing and the price is right if the wages can be agreed.
  • Don't know how it works with players, whether the more experience you get the more money you earn or younger players that have lengthy contracts can pull more money. Seems sad to say 29 is old but i'd doubt many this age are getting 4-5 year deals offered. If he's offered £8k a week he should count himself lucky as a squad player. I'd prefer him to stay.
