  • Listened on the radio. Sounded like we were comfortable in defence and very dangerous going forward. Derby game could be a cracker COYR
  • Great result, some shocking defending going on for those goals, the last two particularly. Two defenders completely turned their backs on Eagles and he had acres of space. Well taken though, I've seen them skied from there before! How Igor managed to get the jump on three defenders is anyone's guess. Did brilliantly to capitalise on the errors though.

A great result and one that probably finishes off Wigan. With Blackpool dead and buried, there is probably only one other relegation slot to be filled. We now find ourselves nine points ahead of Millwall - surely now favourites to take that slot - and also ahead of several other sides. Just as importantly, we look to have turned a corner and arrested that dreadful downward spiral.

It has certainly been an outstanding week for our club, both on and off the pitch. Well down to Guy Luzon and the players for turning things around after that catastrophic first half against Norwich.

We now go to Derby in good heart and things are nicely set up for next Saturday's game against Huddersfield. A big crowd is guaranteed and hopefully there will be a performance to match. Absolutely delighted for the 500 odd up at the DW and looking forward earnestly to hearing from them !

Well done Luzon for being the first manager to do that in a while.

Well done to the boys on the pitch too. Come on you reds.

that was my 1st match since B'burn away, what a difference

Henderson commanded his area and made some great saves
    Defence better with Johnson
Midfield still a bit lackimg but so good to see Jordan inthe centre
The attack - wow, we have two proper forwards who play together supported with a couple of wingmen. We didn't have too many attacks but they were all potent, and the final goal Gudmundsson could easily had a difficult shot but passed to Eagles who was unmarked.

A couple of negatives, we went too deep in the second half and against a better team we would have concede a couple.

    But overall THREE NIL -wow

funny, just saw Luzon say on o/s Henderson barely touched the ball ha

I was so convinced a week ago we were going to get relegated. Now feel a right twat and so happy to have got it wrong. What a difference a week makes!
  • Listening to the game sounded like fox had a good game.. solid defensively and overlapped well on occasions.. maybe Johnson next to him is giving him support and confidence! Can't help but think Bikey would do the opposite to your confidence!

  • Such an important result for us and one that surely leaves Wigan staring over the precipice.
The transformation since the Norwich 1st half is nothing short of amazing.
Difficult to underestimate how important it is to have Henderson back and the signing of Johnson is starting to look inspired, but you'd have to also say that the players as a whole have responded to Luzon and not in the manner that many of us feared.
Confidence must be high - but still bonus time if we get anything at Derby.
Anyway, well done to all involved and much respect to our intrepid band of supporters.

Was there tonight and whilst the atmosphere from the Wigan end was dire after the first goal went in the Charlton fans probably could not believe how easy it all looked. Good points Henderson is a giant of a keeper and oozes confidence ; all of the back four and love dolly, tal and Johnson; Jordan and Johan solid and worked hard and watt and betokened worked their socks off and we took the chances that came and Nilotic was worth his goal . Not so good was once again buyers passing and ability to keep the ball but he did tackle well. Well worth the trip and great for Eagles on his debut. Wigan were awful but we played our part in making them look that way and we looked good defending. For once we look like likely to score when we get into the final third. This is a potentially good side who has goals in it. Roll on Derby. I thought it was a good turnout from the fans so well done all and not least luzon

There's no bloody pier in Wigan. Good night.
  • Looking at the revised relegation odds, we are now best price 8/1 to go down while Reading, now 2 points behind us, can be backed at 40/1 !
  • Who were the two weirdos in fancy dress? One had a Liverpool onesie on, the other was dressed as a duck.

I listened to the game on BBC Manchester radio online, didn't realise it was also available on BBC London online? Didn't want to change it and risk jinxing the 1-0 lead we had ;-)

The biased Wigan commentators at 0-0 thought they would smash us after the first 15 mins and said 1-0 was completely against the run of play. They also bemoaned losing two players to injury in the first half (sound familiar?)

They said we rode our luck in defence which was looking nervous but we did look very good on the counter attack, they praised Tony Watt's performance and made Bulot's goal sound better than it looked on TV. They also praised Buyens and said he stayed in the centre circle all game protecting the back four.

Not sure if anybody else listened to those biased commentators but either way it is such a relief to be able to watch / follow a Charlton game with more than a one goal lead.

An excellent win and really should relieve a lot of pressure that had been building around the club in the last week or two. Blackpool and Wigan now look off the radar which means there are now ten teams behind us in the league and we only need to finish above one of them. Not out of the woods yet as we've played our game early but we seem to have turned a corner at least with this result.

Well done to all involved and GL must take some credit again for playing 4-4-2, two strikers up front, two wingers on the wings and Cousins in the middle which has now resulted in two wins from two games.

    That's George Orwell's fault, at least there's a canal.

    3 fantastic points.

  • Great win & support. Wigan were really poor, though had Fortune buried his header early on it may well have gone differently. We were set up for the counter attack and we executed brilliantly.

I thought Fox dealt with their decent RW well after a few scares. Bulot was a livewire in attack. Cousins ran our midfield. We lost all momentum when the ball came into Buyens, but he did break up play. Watt and Vetokele worked well together, shame the former couldn't bury his one-on-one after a cute flick from the latter - that was the best bit of play of the game. Eagles was creative, very unselfish of JBG (who was good, but quieter than usual) to play him in for his goal.

Luzon was animated and must have said something at HT as we were far better in the second half - warming to him.

    For once, no worries!

Posting from a hotel room in Preston. A very professional performance tonight. We did what we had to and got a terrific result. Wigan started the game as if they really meant to turn us over and their young Liverpool loanee, Ojo, on the right wing made life extremely difficult for Fox. It wasn't until the second half when Bulot and Fox doubled up on him and Wigan had been subdued somewhat by our two goal lead that they managed to get him under control. Wigan had nothing else and well before the end their misplaced passes and wayward shots indicated a side who knew that they were well beaten, their bright start just a distant memory.

Bulot showed that his goal against Brentford was not a flash in the pan, slamming in another one from our first attack, and Vetokele emphasised the importance of taking chances when they come along with a great leap for the headed second. Chris Eagles benefitted from some good work by Gudmundsson to slip the ball home for the third on his debut. The support was great - loved "we're going to win the league" and the guy parading the Belgian flag along the front of the stand at the end. What a difference a week makes!
