I can safely say in the 40 years I’ve been going our current crop of chants (particularly player-based ones) are at an all time low. Awful.

Was a shame on Saturday once the winner went in the whole ground was ready to join in and the upper went with some chant at 100 mile an hour that no one else knows and sounded crap. Diluted opportunity for a massive buzz atmosphere at the end.

    or maybe I’m just old

Couldn't agree more. More of Goodbye Horse and less of the unoriginal morden shite

The speed at which VFR is sung might break the sound barrier by 2030

Does anyone know what song or music the follow chant goes with?

CAFC Woah oohh ohh ohhhh, Woah ohhh ohh ohh, Woah oh ohhhh

Was sang against LO by the covered end

    Thanks
I hate to say it but those are the words! Nothing deep and meaningful
No I know I just wanted to know the tune it originates from xD

As someone that stands near the back of the North Upper I can confirm, the majority of people around me had absoloutely no idea what the new words to the "follow follow" or the terrible Luke Berry song were at the time, and most just kind of mumbled through the bits they didn't know. TBH I still have no idea what the words are in the follow follow chant are, I did see the Berry one after and wished I hadn't, that needs changing sharpish.

So for anyone not in the north upper I'm not surprised you couldn't work out what the words were, because neither could most of us.
  • What are the Charlton words to the Allez, Allez, Allez song? Really can't tell from where I am! Help, otherwise I am a chorus girl only.
    Every Saturday we follow
The boys in red and white
And now we got Lee Bowyer
    We’re f**ing Dynamite
    Sam Bartram, Jimmy Seed
    We won the FA Cup
I know you won’t believe us
But the reds are going up
    Allez Allez Allez
What is being sung instead of Lee Bowyer ? Nathan Jones doesn’t really fit and on Saturday it came across as just mumbled at that point

Next time someone has one of those charitable-bets that appear on here from time to time, rather than donating the money to The Upbeats, The Museum or whatever other good cause, can they just buy the drummers a metronome please?

"And now that we've got Nathan" sits pretty well but Nathan sounds a bit shit :# "now that we've got Jonesy" ?

I am hoping for something like this soon

    'Get up, stand up
    (Get up stand up)
    Dixon's on the right.
    (Dixon's on the right)

In some kind of call and response format.

The drummer simply hits on the first syllable of each line.

    (variation suggestions welcome)

You must be joking - we’ve managed to shoehorn “he fucking hates Millwall” into another chant for one one of our current players, living the dream.

    Should be:

"And now that God is willing,
    We're fucking dynamite"

I think it stems from a generic chant I've heard across europe

It should just be something generic like ‘The Pride of South East London’ so it doesn’t have to change every manager. And it only really with Lee Bowyer.

At my first Charlton game in 75 the Covered End sang a chant to what sounded like a sorrowful and poignant song, and I was very curious about the story that lay behind. When I found out what the words were it was a bit underwhelming. "Over here, over there and do they smell, like fuckin ell"....

I think football chants have always been basic. We just view them through rose tinted

    Jim Reeves Distant Drums

I hear the sound of distant drums
    Far away, far away
And if they call for me to come
Then I must go and you must stay

Covered End Unreleased version  :D (aimed at opposition fans)

I hear the sound of distant bums
    Over there, over there
And do they smell like fucking hell
    Over there, over there
And if they come we will not run

All these 1-0, 0-1 scorelines we could adapt the Sister Sledge hit 'We are Binary'.

Can definitely tell I'm getting older as I meet almost every new chant with a roll of the eyes these days. Bring back the classics imo

I think the last decent song we came up with was the one for dear Seb.
Don't even hear that much these days

As suspected, looks like there isn’t a replacement for singing ‘Lee Bowyer’ yet so how about  singing ‘two Jones’s…’ ?

That was basically a copy of the Cardiff Emiliano Sala one
