I was at the big game - in '98 - and also there in '66. My sons will be groaning because my tired old Geoff Hurst story will get dragged out again.
I paid £4,50 for the 10-match London deal - 6 group matches, QF, SF, 3rd/4th and the Final. I have the tournament programme, the Final programme, some newspaper reports, two rosettes and all 10 tickets in their little wallet.
I did the same for Euro 96 and saw all the Wembley games. Amongst the best money I ever spent,
1) Who won the world cup in 1966 ... England ... correct 2) Who scored a hat trick in that final .. Geoff Hurst .. correct 3) How big was the crowd at the Wembley final ... 1,999,999 .. correct 4) And now .. for one million pounds (drum roll please) .. I want all their names and addresses ((:>)

In '66 we also had the added interest of a match at White City (Uruguay vs France) - how the memories return ....
Unrelated but does anyone know what a complete set of the 1970 esso England squad coins would be worth? I have two complete sets in the original holder, in very good condition. Grandad was a copper so every time he turned up at the station to fill up they'd give him a handful worth of the things...safe to say for a few short weeks my dad everyone's favourite kid on the playground.

I have one set. They tend not to be worth as much as you think. Though I love those coins. Of course you could also get the club badges gatefold collection (1971) which I have framed on my wall. I still think our badge is the best in that. They also brought out a coin collection for the FA Cup centenary in 1972.
Be interesting if there is anyone still with us (or if there was someone who isnt) who went to the '46 / '47 FA Cup Finals at Wembley, the 1966 World Cup Final and the '98 Play-Off Final
Now this is totally genuine: my auntie who has lived in Burnley all her life and who is still with us and has all her marbles was taken to the 47 cup final by my grandad. When she found out I was a Charlton supporter her disgust was only partially in fun...
I don't know what to say, and I think even the wonderfully articulate @PragueAddick might momentarily be lost for words .... I've just opened up my two folders of precious material from 1966, mercifully finding my ticket wallet fully intact and not savaged by mice, and a mysterious Charlton FA Cup rosette, and then, leafing through the Final programme past advert pages of the most shuddering banality what do I find but an impressive full-page ad for Carl Zeiss, Jena - "Champions for 125 years". (The Company, of course, not the Club.)
It's probably a stupid thing to say, but I actually feel quite proud - almost 60 years Charltonised and now 15 months Networkised. I'll bring it along to The Valley tomorrow maybe for someone to make a picture and put it up on here and/or the FCC thread.
This is a marvellous time capsule. In the post-match euphoria the FA Secretary thus - " I expect to be flooded with invitations for England to play abroad, that is the pattern. But I do not expect we shall be out to commercialise the World Cup. Brazil, I believe, asked for guarantees of $20000 after their victories. We are restricted by agreement with the League to four internationals in each season. This is one of the things that will certainly be discussed." The newly-appointed League President stated : We CANNOT let England have our players more freely". Etc etc ....
My brother in law Alan was at Wembley 1966, his sister obtained tickets through Tersons (a building company). Sadly my fiancee was in hospital in Dalston and I was by her bedside!

The book was published this week and it's absolutely superb. Great text from Matt and some wonderful pictures from his sidekick Stuart (makes even GHF look almost human !!).
The book is called 66 on '66, and is basically 66 stories from that unforgettable day. There are bound to be many books this year "celebrating" the half-century of England's woeful record since that brilliant Wembley afternoon, but any book to beat this one will have to be really good.
I attended all the England games with the exception of the final.All my tickets were freebies from the Rothschild family whose bank I worked for. Even my wife joined me for the infamous Argentina game. Happy days !
No final ticket for this 13 year old. Still got me World Cup Willie badge and hankie though :-) Watched the final on black and white TV, like most
Had the offer from one of my mates to go and watch it in colour, as they were obviously the posh family in the street and the only ones with colour TV at the time.
Tried to get a bus home from Lewisham afterwards and waited hours.

My grandad went in 47 and also the Full Members final, sadly died before the play off. He always said that he had lost the programme and ticket but they may have been in the house somewhere. When he died, I went through everything but unfortunately couldn't find it. My uncle found the rosette he wore in 47 though, which went into his coffin.
