DW was known for keeping managers even when most thought they should have gone I remember Mythinez somehow surviving on a number of occasions, now his grandson is in charge and sacked a manager already

MYTHinez was a legend at Wigan.

Are you the man on the Watford train?

Wonder if Dave Whylan had any input in the sacking himself.

Although he did break his leg in an FA Cup Final once, dont know if anyone was aware

I noticed Gary Caldwell is 1/4 to be next manager
seems strange to me was forced to retire in February and has no managerial or coaching experience

He's probably cheap and they're probably underestimating League One and how difficult it is to get out of.

They have spoken to Jewel, they are taking the piss with the wages.

I suspect that granddad has lost a lot of faith in his 'project' and the money will not be as forthcoming as it was .. Mackay has been sacked because A) He was not doing a good job, B) He was expensive and C) His presence may have been regarded as bringing Wigan Athletic FC into disrepute.
The new owner/chairman/ whatever is battening down the hatches for a tough season in the 1st division next year. Their squad is not too bad. A decent manager and retaining the core playing staff could well see them challenging for promotion, although the 1st division gets stronger and more difficult to escape upwards from every season that passes.

I think Wigan will be returning to their norm, lower leagues for the foreseeable. The player they have are not up for a relegation fight in the Championship. I cannot see them up for a 46 game fight out of league one. That said I would have thought the club and a lot of the players are looking to part company come the end of June.

    Caldwell

unknown quantity of course .. a surprise, probably cheap option .. I suspect it'll end in the sack for Caldwell in early 2016 .. but I wish fellow 'Athletics' all the best .. except against us

Their team and style of football have changed dramatically from the fluent passing style they had in the PL. Someone like Leon Clarke is a proven L1 goalscorer...

I don't think Mackay was given enough time and feel Wigan are shooting themselves in the foot, he is a proven good manager and can't see them getting much better at the moment. But on the other hand I don't really care, Wigan should concentrate on what they do best.......................rugby!

Not enough time ? He'd been there months and they hardly won a game. Correct decision for me.

It was obvious, early doors, that he wasn't getting anything from the players.

Apparently Mackay is thinking of standing for UKIP in the election.

The last sentence may be a joke

    Mackay's home record at Wigan

    Played 13
    Won 0 (zero)
    Drawn 3
    Lost 10

Overall, they've earned 6 points fewer than Rotherham and Fulham over the time he was manager (and only one point more than Blackpool). The question for me is why they waited so long.
