  • Swerved the game and the match thread, just got in. Same old Charlton. Let's hope for an upgrade next season. Well done Bournemouth enjoy your days in the Sun.
  • If Bournemouth needed 6 today they would've got them. Very poor all round with too many on the beach.

Thought Wilson for them was the best player I've seen at The Valley for a long time. His workrate and overall team play was brilliant.
  • Poor, inept, lack lustre, dull, uninspiring , un motivated, worthless and obviously pointless ! Ok take onboard nothing game for us and it's the last game.

But, it just looks a little like once again we have turned a period of success, back into draws followed by defeats. Is there the backbone of a squad that could achieve next season ? Unfortunately I don,t think there is. We don,t need to add 3 or 4 we need to keep 3 or 4 and replace the rest.
  • Simon Francis was excellent today as was Harry Arter. They play a fast attacking pressing game which is hard to play against.
  • Firstly, congratulations to Bournemouth and to Yann. Secondly,i hope they enjoyed the fact that collectively as a team we bent over and took it up the dot, couldnt have made it any easier for them if we tried. Pathetic 'performance'.

I enjoyed the game. The pitch looked in great condition. Bournemouth tore into a slow Charlton defence and midfield. They looked very good. If Bournemouth were bothered they could have easily scored double the 3 they scored. Charlton were outclassed all over the pitch. Charlton were marginally better in the second half but not by much. A totally bizarre double substitution, when Watt was indicating to the bench that he was struggling left Charlton short. Luzon choose to take off Diarra, who did not look injured. Charlton unnecessarily playing with 10 men for a good 15 to 20 minutes. Did not change the result but symptomatic of the game. Charlton could have had no complaints at a 4 or 5 goal defeat.

The game today exposed the gulf in class between a promotion team / lower premeirship team and a mediocre mid table championship team thrown together. It shows how far away Charlton are from being genuine promotion candidates. Never mind 3 players short, Charlton are 6 players short on that reckoning. Being that Duchatelet is likely to cash in, that could go up. On watching the team, I was trying to work how many of these players would still be around and who's last game it was. It looks to me as that more than 60 % of those players won't be playing next season.

I did not choose to hang around at the end. I had no enthusiasm to see Bournemouth receive the trophy, who deserved the promotion. I had no enthusiasm either to applaud Charlton players / club for a very mixed and overall mediocre season. It is impossible to tell what Duchatelet's next move is, but with WHU being able to flood the market with cheap Premiership Olympic tickets the season after next, a mediocre strategy is going to see Charlton go backwards.

The Bournemouth Russian owner shows how to get a club promoted and the level of investment needed. Today was a decent reminder of whats required.

    Precisely.

I very stupidly went today as I haven't been since Luzon was made Coach. What a disgraceful display, Watt, Vetokele don't look fit. Buyens didn't put in a tackle all game and what was he doing for the Second goal. Fox is not good enough at this level. Diarra didn't have the legs. Bulot flitted in and out of the game. Johnson is very slow, but at least he gave 100 per cent.
Yes Bournemouth are a good team but I thought our players were a disgrace. Strolling around and making it easy for Bournemouth. Walked away at the end as I didn't want to applaud that crock of shit.
We have got a lot of re- building to do.

Oh yeah you were the one who wanted to boycott on principle. Just admit you hate Charlton with the deepest passion.

It's more than just money - they are also clearly supremely fit and very well drilled.

Having said that only JBG and maybe Gomez and Henderson would get near that side.

We simply couldn't cope with them at their best. I'd love to be a defender in that team, all you have to do is collect the hoofs from the opposition and start another attack.

Wilson and Ritchie have quality but both were tossers as well.

There was such pressure on us to make the most of our rare first half attacks that we were giving the ball away whenever we got near the penalty area.

In the second half we came back at them, looking to pull it back to 1-2 and had a bit more success but lacked the clinical finish once we had pierced their back four.

That sums it well. I don't think our players lacked effort. Just a bit of calmness. If anything we probably tried a bit too hard.
  • I know we only really had pride to play for but on that performance only 2 or 3 have any pride at all. Up front we really are lightweight and both Watt and Igor look out of shape.

Only positive was that we finished 12th which means I win a couple of hundred quid.

Need a to sign a number of quality players and get rid of a number of ordinary players if we are to improve next season.

  • Like I already said in a response we lacked a bit of calmness not guts. We probably tried a bit too hard.
  • We were very poor today. Disappointing end to a very forgettable season.

We missed Cousins energy in midfield but as a team we a miles away from Bournemouth

That's a shame. You missed the great run that took us clear of the bottom ( which is where we were when you last came to a match ).
  • We were dreadful and gutless. Pathetic display.
  • About what we expected given how ours and their seasons have gone, hopefully we can celebrate before to long.
  • For Charlton it was last one to the sun longer is a sissy I'm afraid and the team didn't do themselves justice. Bournemouth a star team rather than a team of stars - unless they spend big I suspect that all that team work will unravel next season.
  • Good to hear Yann got a good reception. Congrats to bournemouth.

Finishing 12 was higher than I expected so can't be too disappointed with that.

In a way the fact that we looked at least a division apart from Bournemouth might give the owners a big enough incentive to really have a go for it.

    But I doubt it

We need a left back, two centre backs, back up keeper, 2/3 central midfielders, a wide midfielder and a new proper goalscorer

    Piece of cake then

Parts of today were demoralising, roll on August.
  • We weren't interested. Bournemouth still had a job to do. They did the job they had to do. They looked as of they had 10% more of everything - skill, fitness, attitude, belief, awareness...
Hopefully our players will take from that it could be us next year.
