  • Some going to player of the year tomorrow have probably made some chilling remarks but how many of the fans will have the bottle to say it to the players' faces? I reckon NONE!

I sincerely hope that no-one will be confrontational with Guy, the players or Katrien tonight.

I realise that this is possibly the best and for some, only opportunity to speak to them but PLEASE do it in a sensible, respectful manner.

With the rising cost of meals this season etc, Ian & myself have struggled from the start to organise this event with more obstacles than Colin Jackson had to negotiate.....and anything that could be construed as "out of order" could mean it's the last POTY dinner held at The Valley.

    You know it makes sense.

    In Lifers I trust...

I am certain that the people going tonight will be able to behave themselves and enjoy the evening.

Fanny is their any spaces still available? I've managed to knock off work early and can make it along
  • Listen to the wise words of Fanny.

    Moaning at a POTY dinner,
Would be like telling the next of kin at a funeral that the deceased owed you money, or at a wedding telling the groom you once had great sex with the bride
but as it was days ago, let's move on.

Telling the better players that Stoke and Hull are rubbish places to live is allowed,
(LOL moment from Eltham Addicts Meeting)
Plus going to Palace would make you a Pariah.

Try to forget yesterday's Match and think of Watford away Derby,Huddersfield and Brentford at home when we played Beautiful football, unlike yesterday when we were like the Elephant man after a heavy night.

Remember they even had a Christmas day truce in WW1.

You never know; a game of football might even break out.

  • I think we are about 5 short, but that is about the squad too. Two or three of those will be the key ones.

If we are only five short, then that would suggest we have about 6 who can play in a promotion side. I personally couldn't pick more than one who would get into a Watford or Bournemouth side (JBG)

Henderson, Solly, Gomez, Cousins, Gundmundson, Vetokele & Watt definitely can be considered high end players at this level. That's 6. I think Ben Haim Wiggins if he finds his form, Bulot also could come into that category.

If they are then they are yet to show it on a consistent basis. Sometimes they look the part and other times they look well short at being contenders at this level. Consistentcy is the difference between being a mid table or promotion hopefulls and none of our players have looked the part week in-week out through the season.

Sometimes the players playing around you is a factor too.
  • Without wishing to be disrespectful, we wouldn't have stood out as badly against someone like Bolton as we did against an amazing Bournemouth side.

Today demonstrated again what a classy club charlton is... We remember how good burton where to us a few years back, all the best for next season, please get promoted ahead some of the other wingey championship clubs next season for us.

    We've never played Burton.
  • Henderson was decent. Solly poor. Fox abysmal. Ben Haim average. Johnson barely average. Gudmundsson ok but quiet. Diarra decent. Buyens lazy & poor, but who wants to get injured when they are getting married shortly and have to move to an unknown country with their wife & baby. Bulot quiet. Watt ok but obviously not fit. Vetokele ditto. Church, loved it when the pitch opened up for a run towards goal and he fell over the ball.

In summary, they were desperate to win & we were desperate to take it easy and not get injured.
  • Unlike the honest and professional performances from Sheff Utd and Reading
  • Have to say it's tough seeing a team promoted to the premier league and win the championship on our pitch. Some are saying as a club we are too soft. Giving them extra seats, handing over the mic, queen blasting out from the speakers. I have to disagree. Without sounding like Ray Liotta, it was out of respect.

They won the league and deservingly so in my opinion.

They won the league and deservingly so in my opinion. If the boot was on the other foot I would hope and expect the same treatment. Let's use this as our motivation. Any decent manager would of been saying that in the dressing room at full time. Let's re-group, sort out the squad and have a go! COYR
  • Well said. I think it is good - rather than be nasty about it we should wish them well and all do our bit to make it us next year.
  • All in holiday mode , let's sort it for next season , Bournemouth very good side but we rolled over .
  • Charlton in not turning up for the last match of the season and sending the fans away for the summer with a bad taste in the mouth shocker!

Charlton in not turning up for the last match of the season and sending the fans away for the summer with a bad taste in the mouth shocker!

Sorry to point this out but we have won our last three last home games.
  • In my eyes you've got to look at the teams promoted and think what players of ours could get in their team
I think at a push JBG and Watt (on their day) could. Your Sollys, Cousins, Vets are average in my opinion.
  • I've not seen very much of Charlton this season, but I saw this one and I echo what people have already said on here - we are streets behind Bournemouth, for whom we made it easier for them by not turning up. The 'on the beach' attitude is not something I want to see from our players, I at least expect us to compete, we should have been making it hard(er) for Bournemouth to clinch the title, not opening up and saying 'there you go, all yours'.
Diarra was our MoM and he only played about 70 minutes, so that tells you how poor the rest of them were, but we shall see what 'rebuilding' takes place over the summer, based on that performance we certainly need it.

Respect your opinion mate but the performance against Bournemouth was not representative of our season as a whole. It was been a real season of peaks and troughs, with a few terrible performances and some absolutely belting ones. If we could play at our best on a more consistent basis we would be there or thereabouts. We do need strengthening, but there is talent and promise in that squad.
    Thanks Davo55.
From what I've seen this season, there are some talented players in the squad, hopefully we can add some more like-for-like quality (and get them to gel of course!). No easy feat I know, but hopefully this summer's recruitment will be successful and bear fruit next season.
  • Good points about Saturday; Diarra did well enough to earn a new contract, Bournemouth are as good as Burnley last year (don't know if that bodes well for next year but who cares) Buyens does make a difference in midfield; that we Charlton fans applauded Bournemouth and gave due respect I think reflected well on this club. Bad points; Luzon failed to motivate the team to turn up properly (a bit like at Birmingham) and needs to work on getting players who will play for him each and every match; it does need a bit of reflection on fitness levels/tactics/personnel/and motivation by Luzon. He is brave with his decision making so I hope he continues this in what is an inherited team, members of which are definitely worth keeping (Henderson cousins watt gudmundson, buyens, solly), not sure about others. He needs to make to himself a statement of intent and sell this to roland and then think today about how he can achieve his goal. I am optimistic as he is no bully and players seem to like him so his work begins today for the first game of next season.

    Hasn't Diarra's contract already been extended ?

Totally agree though, he's a very good signing - I was extremely skeptical when we brought him in but now he's a big favourite.

Vetokele is definitely worth keeping. I predict a big season for him next year. We just need to get him , and Watt right during the summer.

I think you'll find that dragback is a Bournemouth fan.
  • That was probably the most one-sided game I've ever seen. After 12 minutes I was expecting to see the predicted 19-0 scoreline, but not in a good way.

Luckily Bournemouth played so quickly and so well to keep the afternoon entertaining. I hope our manager and players repeatedly watch the video to learn how it should be done.
Their players knew where their teammates were, to pass to without looking. When they were in an unexpected position they gave a clear shout. Ours also often passed without looking, but not to a teammate. And nobody wanted to receive the ball, not even at throw ins.
If one of them made a mistake, e.g. a poor pass, they apologised to their teammate. Ours would blame the other. This lack of team spirit was not as bad as against Leeds, but it was still noticeable.

Luzon's mismanagement was incredible. Vetokele has been injured for ages and should not have started. In such a situation, having 4 defenders and only one forward on the bench was wrong. And Solly's loss of form seems to stem from when he had to play 2 matches per week. Nobody around me could believe the double substitution when Watt was obviously already injured. Even if he had been signalling that he was OK to carry on, Luzon should have waited.

I like Watt, but he needs to learn how to head the ball to become a really good striker (according to Wikipedia he is 6', about the same height as Yann). Vetokele is good in the air for his height, but cannot be expected to win long, high balls booted out from the back. So Henderson needs to be looking to throw the ball out to a defender, as we were doing under Peeters. As it was we were just conceding possession.

6 points from our last 7 games shows that there is something wrong.
