There's no suggestion Mo Farah took any performance enhancing drugs.

As SELR said, EPO is the drug of choice for distance runners. Testosterone is for muscle density, so can't see endurance athletes using it. The "evidence" come from training notes and was explained away as a typo for a supplement with 1st four letter "test". Seems more plausible than the dark explanation but Salazar does seem to push the boundaries of what's legal.

Also as an ex-decent runner and track follower, I'd say his improvement is down to the correction of his over-striding (Dave Bedford like) where he could only accelerate by increasing leg speed (virtually impossible when tired). Now he has decent leg speed and accelerates by increasing stride length.

As an ex decent runner, track follower and sports science graduate I would say adjusting your stride will not knock 45 seconds of a 10k pb at elite level. Not a hope in hell. The stride adjustment has helped but no way to the extent it has.
Distance runners improve with age. Mo was already one of the best Europeans before he hooked up with Salazar in 2011. Oxygen tents are a huge advance. Disagree with your assessment of stride length benefits. Fartlek training improved me leaps and bounds.
    Good for triple jump trainings?

Meanwhile twice banned cheat Justin Gatlin has just run 9.74 for the second time this year.....

this sums up the ridiculous approach to drug usage in sport .. I am convinced that the majority of (especially) American spectators at athletics meets, and there are hundreds of thousands who attend the college meets to top level national events, are not bothered about drug use, they just want to see the well muscled, top athletes competing and to see good competition. The same applies to all the other American sports whose combined cash turnover runs into billions of whichever currency you'd care to name. The turnover in professional athletes is also huge and the same thing is gradually happening in (e.g.) English football.
The Americans, who as with many issues, effectively set the tone for International standards, therefore treat drug usage in a cavalier fashion whilst paying lip service to condemning drug users .. oh you bad boy, go top the foot of the stairs for six months .. it's well known that use of steroids or muscle/bodily function improving drugs have long term effects, even when/if an athlete stops using. The improvements from drug usage are long term. Gatlin therefore can sit out his bans knowing that when he returns, he will still be more bodily efficient than 99% of his opponents. Gatlin of course was a marvellous runner from the start of his career. Drug use has allowed him to maintain his form and prowess and to make lots of money.
Perhaps the answer is simply to allow the use of steroids and other enhancers, as unpalatable as that would be to many sports purists all around the world.

It may come to a head, if he breaks the world record for 100m. The thing is you cam lose a WR if the wind is more than 2m/sec, but he could gain one for drugs he has taken in the past. Joke.

But you can suddenly increase your performance. I remember during 2012 swimming some girl improved her personal best by 6 seconds and the experts were saying that sort of thing was impossible. Well during the same Olympics I improved my PB by 36 seconds whilst watching the women's Beach Volleyball.................

The swimmer you reference was 16 and had grown by, I think, 6 inches during the previous 12 months. Not the same as a 29 year old in my view.

  • I always thought it was a bit suspicious that he beat The Cube so easily.

  • Yomif Kejelcha 17yrs old won the 5000m last night!

    17 really!

Was that the noise she made whizzing up the pool or the noise you made when watching the volleyball?

  • Drugs are rife in Rugby, but it is hushed up or not overtly publicised.

Never been there, but it sounds like my kind of town :-)

Rugby Town FC (nicknamed The Valley) has got pre season written all over it!
  • Mo has done a runner or not for today's race.
  • the thing I don't understand is that Mo seems to be acting as though this is all new to him. the allegations against Salazar have been under discussion in the athletics community for months (Wells has also been being discussed), I can't see any way Mo wouldn't be aware of them
  • He's a proper Drama Queen.
  • Real shame .. I doubt if he'll ever run in Britain again .. he can still make millions running in Europe or (more likely) the U S A
  • Another meeting mo hasn't run , not doing anything other than give the cynics more ammo
  • Don't you normally get suspended for missing a test? Rio did and I'm sure one of our female athletes did too.
  • Never trusted the Guy since he said quorn was 'tasty'...

    I think it's 3 tests in 18 months.

Yes it was Christine ohurrigi... ohurruggur... Yes there was that athelete
  • You need to miss three tests within 12 months I thought, the bit about the not answering the door is they knocked or rang the bell every 7 mins why not just call him on the mobile and say where are you piss in this

If there is a serious want in all sport to rid the cheats and their support group that assists in hiding the mucky secret in the modern age you can locate and find anyone within a very short space of time
  • Have we discussed 'Our Paula' yet?

    Do we have suspicions?

I read an article on the US version of Runners World last night and some of the comments from the Americans was outrageous.

They've never forgiven us for Zola Budd...

I reckon Paula is dirty. Anyone who can take a shit in front of thousands watching at the roadside and millions on telly is a wrong'un
Perhaps if all athletes did that the testers wouldn't have to wait hours for a post race sample to be produced.
  • Athletes I know, say that ALL professionals in most top sports who want the big time sponsor money, are on some form of stimulant. Therefore, if everyone else is using, it's a case of join in, or risk losing out, and being a mere "also-ran". Sad.
  • The MP who is the Chairman of the culture,media,and sports select committee;
Jesse Norman stated that London Marathon winners and medalists, and potentially British Athletes were under suspicion.
He didn't mention Paula by name but as she is the only British runner to have won or be placed in the last 20 years the inference is there whether he meant it to be or not.
Radcliffe also unlike Mo Farah and Jo Pavey said she didn't want her blood data
    on public displays ?
A British newspaper knew about this 9 months ago, decided not to name her but asked for a comment from her, no response ?

Paula Radcliffe, when she smashed the world record was all for transparency,
the time of 2hr 15m 25sec was about 3 minutes faster than any one else at that time.
Find a independent expert to comment on your blood data.
Or else your reputation will be in tatters after all those hard miles.
  • Pooey Paula is innocent OK!

Mind you I'm not going to dig up the Cardiff square on the strength of it even if Kent are getting stuffed....
