Cost 100,000 from Tottenham. Certainly a bargain though!

Did Bryan Hughes arrive on a free? Got decent service out of him, typical Curbs bargain buy.

Alan Pardew (the player that is) scored a lot of goals for us

Steve Gatting and John Bumstead did well for us in those early Gritt/Curbishley years

Chris Iwelemu was a free signing and far better value than the millions wasted by Pardew on Varney, McLeod and Gray...

We didn't get the best of him but Ricardo Fuller was a useful asset for nout

If you want a bit of pace in the Squad then you've always got Danny "Chocolate Hamstrings" Haynes

Terry Naylor, Mark Bright...both helped get us promoted, great commitment rather than settling for end-of-career coasting

Did we get Simon Webster on a free?

Considering some of the turd we signed in league 1 (A.Sodje, et al) I'd say Deon burton was a brilliant player for us. Loved him.

Dailly, what planet are you on? League one cart horse, with the turning speed of a Thames barge by the time he joined us.

Really rated Gatting - one that is up there in my favourite player category for sure.

    Dailly was quality

He scored at Palace and gave us hope for a while so goes into the leg end category in my eyes

Jesus Christ, PAOLO Di Canio, not Paulo. I know I'm gonna get 'grammar nazi', 'pedant' etc but seriously how many people spell that man's name wrong?

Was Thomas Myhre a freebie? Very decent goalie he was.

    And Simon Royce as well?

Did we resign Barness on a free too?

Dailly was very very good for us in that first season in league 1 with pretty good league 1 players around him. The problems came when he had Gary Doherty next to him who couldn't have been any slower. An inexperienced left back in Matt Fry to his left and two poor centre midfielders in front of him in McCormack and Semedo.
Some of you guys have short memories, Millwall away springs to mind. A 35 year old defender playing in the third division? Surely you lot can do better.

Carl Tiler, he was free wasn't he?

Wasn't great but was Premier League so probably better than Dailly/Hudson etc.

Jesper Blomqvist as well, although he hardly played. Probably take Morts & JoBerg over him.
