Good that we're signing players that our manager wants rather than him just having players turn up at the training ground unannounced - I'm not quite sure why we seem to be signing so many players that on the surface seem to play in the same position but I'm sure there's a plan behind it all.
  • Sounds like a hard working player that will allow the more creative players to get on with what they do best, added bonus that he seems to be a Luzon choice, welcome to the club.

If only a World Cup was closer so i could get more excited by him being an International.

On a serious note him and Cousins look a useful midfield partnership and more than useful for us to push on.
    .

See, never hearing about these players works both ways. I have no idea if that looks a good partnership. From the description of the players, Ba sounds more promising.

Coquelin, the lad from Spurs whose name temporarily escapes me, Diarra and now this fella. It's clear that the club has identified and been trying to fill a gap in defensive midfield for some time now. Pleased to hear that Luzon wanted him specifically and as with our other signings this summer it's more encouraging to be signing players that have been in and out of top flight teams as opposed to players who have been just plain out of second tier teams.

Agree with those who are keen to see us add some more attacking flair to the midfield but I'm also hopeful Cousins can step up a bit in that regard. He'll never be an out and out playmaker but he very much has the making of proper old fashioned all action box to box midfielder. If this new lad is going to sit and screen and free Cousins up to push forward a bit more I reckon he could well finish close to double figures in terms of goals next season. That approach worked pretty well for us with Kins and Jones back in the day.

Welcome Ahmed and good luck in SE7.

It sounds like he is a centre mid is this right??? What sort of player is he? Holding? Box to box? Creative? A passer? Or attacking mid??

Although I keep seeing talk of the need for an attacking midfielder and whilst I agree, it didn't harm Wenger's early Arsenal side. Whilst both were exceptional midfielders neither Pettit or Vieira were what would be described as creative.
With Cousins alongside a real destroyer, two decent wingers (JBG plus one) and Watt causing havoc, we might just be OK.

It probably helped that they also had Pires, Ljungberg, Bergkamp and Henry though!

Pires / Ljungberg / Overmars being the wingers though (JBG / plus a few others for us and we're sorted there).

Then Bergkamp had the skills (Watt) whilst Henry has the pace (Vetokele)... Some very strong similarities there (Just the talent isnt quite so high)

Welcome Ahmed lad. Keep yer nose clean and no foul mouthed stuff. Respect yer mother and make your father proud. Always wash yer privates to keep crotch rot at bay. We expect yer to be punctual and to respect yer elders but apart from that good luck!

    Old bastard

Exactly but comparative to our current level.

Hard to excited about it considering we know hardly anything about how good he is, but that is the norm with Charlton signings these days.

And no I'm not slagging him off before anyone jumps to conclusions.

So Luzon is very excited by him and it's someone he admires as a player. That's good enough for me.

Plus does that mean he does have a significant say in purchases?
  • Welcome to Ahmed. We need more bodies and he is one. Look forward to seeing him play for us.

I sometimes think of Jordan Cousins as our version of Jordan Henderson, a box to box midfielder with a great engine

So we sign an international player, a player no one on CL has seen and the negative bed wetters come out with:-

"sounds like a character from Carry on up the Khyber"
    "Sounds like LePoint Mk2"
    "Dead ringer of Omar Pouso"

    What a bunch of saddos.

Welcome Ahmed please ignore the waste of air users that infest parts of our support base.

    This seasons Ben Haim?

I remember comments like "hope he's only back up" and suggestions that he had a bad attitude, but he turned out to be one of the better signings.

It'll be interesting to see how our CMs are used and how our midfield lines up. Could mean Diarra will play CB.

A Metz fan on Twitter said his strength is that he's everywhere. If we play 3-5-2/5-3-2 surely that means JBG will move inside (can't see him being dropped or played as wing back) to play the more attacking and creative role.

To do that he'd need energy around him and maybe that's the thinking with Cousins and Kashi (or Ba) alongside him.
Didn't Luzon say that we need a minimum of 4/5 players & when we have signed these players then we'll know how we are going to play ? Suggests he hasn't the faintest idea who or what position/style of players we will be signing.

As an aficionado of CL I want to put on Record that I will speculate wildly and incorrectly on how our new signings will get on in the championship

Welcome Ahmed. Seems like a decent signing to me and if Luzon is especially happy that's he has signed then all the better. Although he's played as a defensive/holding midfielder at Metz maybe that has had more to do with the personnel they had available. From the clip I've seen he's more than capable of getting forward and scored a decent header. Maybe Luzon thinks he has more to come and maybe thinks he can play further forward. If not then it's good that we have both him and Ba competing for that holding spot in the team and we need decent cover for every position. Also suggests that Guy sees Diarra more as a CH.

"Good luck to him if AC is confirmed ; we note a combative player , but motivated to say that this is a huge loss ... it is still pretty darn technically limited , apart from the side to the back passes and it does not add much under construction ".
