Anyone know how much you get for winning each round? Didn't realise the prize money was so pitiful (in footballing terms!). £100k for the winner and £50k for runner up, no wonder the 'big' teams don't put their full strength sides out
Just got back. Followed the team coach for the bulk of the way home and I would like to thank CAFC for providing an escort for us through the darkness of the M11.
But seriously.
We rarely stepped out of second gear and breezed through. I have to be perfectly honest and say while we played well, Posh were pretty shite. We carved them open time and again without really trying - first half was actually quite boring. Kennedy nearly missed his goal (thankfully not), but he's a really good dribbler and that will definitely improve with time. Weirdly, he moves similarly to Scott Parker with the ball at his feet (WAY too early to make a comparison like that in any way though). Cousins and Ba were solid in the first half - athleticism writ large basically. Harry Lennon also looked decent.
Second half, they looked even worse and we looked better. I thought KAG was a constant threat, Bergdich colder than he was hot (except for a couple of sublime passes, and a fair turn of pace, he's got fairly little), Harriott not quite match sharp and low on confidence... We got on Harriott's back from the off and I didn't like it.
Defence was generally solid though Sarr - while great at getting in the way - is a potential liability with his ball-playing. Bauer WILL get found out for pace and agility a few times this season, but there's nothing much we can do about that. Charles-Cook played immense for me for someone so young - all 90 minutes and kept going. Didn't have a lot to do though. Pope - nothing much bad, but had little to do. Decent distribution, definitely in ideas but not always in execution.
Kashi seems to have taken on the nickname "Gary", because of the Only Fools and Horses episode with the illegal immigrant no-one could understand so he/they only said "Gary"... That's really not on, no matter how well-intentioned. He played great, good in the tackle and fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck me what a finish.
Igor is a ways from match fit. You can see in the Sky highlights with that first touch from a sick Bergdich ball that he's not quite there. But I can't wait for him to get back to where he should be. A veritable smorgasbord of attacking options awaits, potentially. Muldoon put in a sexy cross too, decent cameo in that case.
--------
Overall, a good performance against a quite crap team (Daggers were definitely better). We barely got out of second gear it seemed (maybe the subdued atmosphere contributed to that too). Quietly gaining confidence though we aren't perfect and a few things could be remedied. Exciting times ahead I hope.
Glad I made the decision to go in order to see the Kashi goal, and the start of the road back for Igor, Kennedy scoring on his first team debut, and our 17 year old KAG lead the line with very impressive authority, and scoring the penalty with apparent ease. Peterborough were pretty poor, not as good as Dagenham I would say, and while they passed it about a bit, they were error prone and not difficult to overcome. Considering we had a bit of a makeshift team, we passed it about, looked for the killer pass, were at ease at all times, players showed nice bits and pieces, and apart (sadly) from Callum, all the players had a really good time. I thought Lennon showed well, out of position at left back, he is pretty fleet footed when he wants to be. I wouldn't change Diarra for Sarr, Sarr needs to keep adjusting to his new circumstances, Bauer continues to be imperious, and Charles Cook continues his impressive development. Cousins and Ba were on top in midfield, and Bergdich was a bit hit and miss out wide. KAG played very well, and was a constant menace, Igor was good, lovely first time finish set up beautifully by Muldoon, Kennedy helped with the early poachers goal, but still has a way to go, and Kashi is simply a force of nature at the moment, he slammed the post, and I have not seen it yet, but his audacious 40 yard goal will probably be our best goal this season. Kashi is fast becoming as good a signing as Kinsella, and that is praise indeed. Felt like about 500 or so Charlton there, in good spirits even though long parts of the game, particularly the first half, passed like a pre-season friendly or a training game. On the drive home heard about the Palace draw. They say everything comes in threes, well in the first round it was 4-1, in the second round it was 4-1 so now onto the third round

Pretty much this for me. Enjoyed the night was in the executive suite with some Posh supporting friends, got in the tunnel and on the pitch pre game chance to shake hands with both Guy Luzon and Jordan Cousins before KO, didn't realise just how big Pope is!!
Another great night at London Road. First half was very even but the second was men against boys. It's hard to say how decent we were because Peterborough were so bad. At times we ripped them apart on the counter and most of the time our final pass let us down. Baure was immense as usual. Saar looked comfortable along side him. Jordon didn't have his greatest game and neither did Callum.
I can say I was there when we scored one of the greatest goals ever scored in a Charlton shirt. Amazing 45 yard lob.Worth the admission fee alone.
Lovely set up by mulhoon for Igors goal too and a good finish.
Peterborough fans were shocking. Less than 2000 home fans in the ground.
A great night only slightly dampened by the fact that we have to go to The Nigels in the next round.
I'm not interested in Harriott's performance, what was his son wearing?

Great 2nd gear performance by us, frightening to think how many we would have got with the full 1st team. Kag and Ken caused problems without causing too much trouble in the first half. But as the game opened up it suited them a lot more. Defence looked Solid, Lennon done pretty well and Sarr looked at home next to the rock that us Bauer. Not sure I'm convinced with C-cook at right back but against championship players can see him struggling. Harriot was pretty poor and was trying too hard to score, Guy Luzon called him over after his second miss and told him to calm down to which he did and looked a bit better with a few decent crosses. Igor looked a tad rusty when he game on but that chance his missed controlled he was only on the pitch a few minutes but he grew into the game and looked good, took his goal well too. Kashi is class, his goal was class, his movement is class, the boy is class.
Big well done to Luzon as well, he really knows how to get the team going straight after half time, that's a goal in every game bar forest with 7/8 minutes of the second half starting, catch em while their cold. Love it.
A very professional and impressive performance last night from the boys considering the average age of the starting eleven was 21 against a decent league one side.
Great start and a dream debut for young Mickey Kennedy scoring one and earning the penalty. He was very tidy all game, kept it simple and worked very hard. He was moved out to right midfield when Igor came on where he continued to play well.
We should have been at least 3 up by half time with Harriott getting himself in decent scoring opportunities and either not looking up to play in KAG or Mickey K or just having a bit of composure in front of goal.
2nd half we stepped it up and looked even more dangerous with Igor and Kashi coming on. Great to see Igor back who looked quite sharp considering his lack of match time in recent months.
Great to see the young players getting an opportunity last night and not looking out of place. Despite being a midfielder filling in at right back Charles-Cook was solid and was composed on the ball. Harry Lennon was equally as dependable at left back despite being a centre half by trade. Did his job well and he should be pleased with his performance.
Shame we could not get a big premier league team at home in the next round but palace will not fancy playing us in 3 weeks time if we continue this level of performance.
I dont think we have ever produced so many young guns that are all so composed on the ball, the total lack of fear in their play can only be down to how much focus is on being comfortable on the ball
Because of CAFC fans obsession with all things Millwall or Palace, How many threads were open before the Millwall game last season ? Our league form will suffer if that cup game becomes more important than the league games before and after.
That i would say is the main point that Sir Henry is making.
Great evening, topped by a wonder goal from Kashi.
Nabby Sarr is effin huge, I stood a couple of yards away from him when they came out to warm up and he made me feel small and I'm 6' 1"! He looked pretty solid and should make a good back up CH. The whole crowd took an intake of breath when Luzon gave him a slap (lol)
Bauer, my word what a rock in our defence, a major find by the club, the kids all did well, I thought Ahern-Grant had his best game for us, his running off the ball was excellent.
There was only one player on the night who was below par, I'll leave you to make your own minds up who that might be!

That scumbag Harriott!!!! Probably too busy worrying about who Wenger might bring in before the window slams shut. Didn't like what he saw on Monday night at the Emirates, was still playing on his mind yesterday, he couldn't give the game 100% focus.
Yet he returned home late last night to see his boy in his Arsenal pyjamas, Arsenal bed sheet & duvet, Arsenal wallpaper and a picture of Lauren above his boy's bed and he thought 'life ain't so bad after all'
He needs to go out on loan, or start again somewhere else. The atmosphere towards him by some is toxic. even thou i don't rate him, judgement made over 3 seasons not 1 match. i will give 100% support to whoever Luzon picks even thou at times it will vary to my own views.

To those that attend the U18 / U21 matches... Would they say that these age groups play a similar style of Football to the First Team?
Previously I've always found that the youngsters have played a nice style of Football only to play very Defensive Football when they reach the First Team meaning that the difference in styles means that its harder for them to adapt... If everyone from the First Team to the U18s is now singing from the same hymn sheet I've always thought it would make the transition easier
Good point FA, but if Tony and Igor are up front the ball needs to be played to feet, Where as when the great Dane is there you can play to feet or in the air. Found it frustrating last season when we played it in the air and we had no one up front who could win a header. Igor could but not when the CB's were 8 ins taller.
a great start for some of our youngsters .. perhaps we don't need to sign anymore outsiders ? .. Kashi's goal .. it will take a fantastic effort to beat that for the Goal of the Season award .. nice to see Igor back and firing .. great to draw Palace, shame it's not at the Valley though

You just failed to win the crossbar challenge.

Didn't expect such a comfortable win to be honest, The Kashi goal will be talked about for a while but it was a Peach of a goal.
Steve Avory must be proud that we had six academy players in the starting line up and they all put in a good shift.
Good goal from Kennedy after about 5 minutes which got us off the mark, we played much better in the 2nd half.
Coach was buzzing on the way home when the Palace draw came through.
Good away support i'd say around 600 .
Ronaldo kit
Messi went tits
Was sat in just behind Directors Box close to Luzon.
The bloke is a lunatic!
At one point I thought he was gonna take a throw on!
The youngsters seem to be the strongest mentally we have ever produced. They didn't play like niave first timers at all.
Left before the end to get out of their car park and was back by 11.30. Well worth the effort.

Charlton's young guns seized their moment in the Capital One Cup spotlight to breeze to a 4-1 victory at Peterborough.
