Terrible shame. Despite being a cartoon character for us, when I was growing up in Scotland in the 70s and 80s he was a genuine star. Get well Ralph though i suspect the damage is done.
It's a shame to hear this. When joined Charlton he was staying in the Clarendon Hotel, Blackheath. Don't know if it was boredom but he liked a good drink and could be found propping up the bar most nights in the PoW and Three Tuns. He certainly could down a few even on Friday nights. Perhaps he was always half cut when he played for us and that's why it didn't work out. Who knows ... Good luck Ralphie
Despite what some have said about his spell with us , he did have some outstanding games .
There was a match against Watford at Selhurst where we won 4-3 and he was unplayable. If my memory serves me well he also came on against Leeds in the first play off match .
Sadly I guess we now know why he could not sustain this level of performance consistently .
Scored against us at OldTrafford and scored two goals against Palace while playing for Bristol City.Came to us with much hope and expectation but left us wondering what all the excitement was about. Always remember some Charlton players and Ralph was such aplayer. Minutes silence expected at next home game please. 54 to young to die.R.I.P.
