To think I used to hang a Gary Glitter poster on my bedroom wall.
Apparently Gary Glitter used to hang a poster of you on HIS bedroom wall.
I saw some great bands in the 70s but I wouldn't include the Pink Fairies in that statement. Saw them at Bromley technical college in 1971. They were so loud - it was just an ear bleeding mess imo. I think Hawkwind came on later, by which time I couldn't hear a thing - although alcohol may have been partly to blame.

Yes they were ear bleedingly loud, which is the kind of thing we liked in those days.
Know what you mean Seth - I have the tinnitus to prove it.
About the same time we used to go to the rock pubs, The spotted Cow in Hither green, The Magdala in Dulwich and the Kings head in Blackfriars - where the anthem was always Butterfly Bleu by Iron Butterfly
Be good to yourself at least once a day - Man Complete with prize-winning 2' by 2' fold out cover with a map of Wales being poled away from England 9 and a half minutes of Bananas - they dont write them like that any more....
I like to eat bananas 'Cos they got no bones I like marijuana 'Cos it gets me stoned
Put a seed into the ground Wait for the sun to come around Nurture it with love and care Give it sun and rain and air Then, oh then, You gotta let it grow Let it grow Come on wait for it to sprout Then you get your Rizlas out
Second best album of 1972 Live at the Padget Rooms - Man

The year of my birth - always a classic.....although Pipes & Drums & Miltary Band Of The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards was at number one when I was born so not such a classic song.....
I remember my big sister telling me I was growing up after I bought Transformer - my album of '72.
My first year of spending all my money on albums - generally a couple a month. Classics for me were, Machine Head (which someone offered me £50 for my copy a couple of weeks ago), Close to the Edge, Thick as a Brick, Foxtrot, along with one of the greatest live albums ever recorded in Made in Japan.
Honourable mention must go to Floyd's Live at Pompeii,
Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie Harvest - Neil Young Honky Chateau - Elton John Exile on Main St - Rolling Stones Roxy Music - Roxy Music Talking Book - Stevie Wonder The Harder they Come -Soundtrack (Various) Rock Of Ages - The Band
On Thick as a Brick at a random moment a front doorbell rings. First time it happened I checked the door for real, nobody there. Then the doorbell rings again a couple of minutes later, I checked again, nobody. After that I was amused to see others fall for it too when listening.

11 is very young to be listening to songs about giving head

Absolutely, an all time favourite from a definitive band in my modest musical life. But....
I remember I got it at Christmas. I remember putting on that Christmas morning, and as soon as the blast hit after the little accoustic intro on "Our Song", I knew it was going to be a great Christmas. But I'm pretty sure that must have been 71. Sorry to be a pedant.
Along with this Argus is the one that stands the test of time for me. And both bands I regularly loved seeing at the Black Prince or Croydon Greyhound.
so while I'm here, I'll offer a shout to my Czech buddy's regular anorak programme on Prague Radio 1 which will start in about 45 minutes. He could easily feature something from any of the albums above.

Still got the record somewhere. (Unless one of the family has sold it at a car boot sale!)
Genesis with Peter Gabriel were doing an excellent live show at the time.
Groundhogs: Who will save the world? The mighty Groundhogs!
Jackson Browne: Saturate before using.

Mind you For the Roses was rubbish.
Foxtrot, Argus, Machine Head, Exile On Main Street. Some of my favourite albums are from 1972.
Only one I can think of that hasn't already been mentioned is Uriah Heep's Demons And Wizards.

Humble Pie - Smokin'
Joe Walsh - Barnstorm
Nektar - A Tab in the Ocean
Stray - Saturday Morning Pictures
I've always walked on the wild side.
