Christopher Alexander Kofi "Chris" Dickson Now in Cypriot first division. Another player that we let go who went on to enjoy European football, sigh...
A tad harsh KHA...Bailey always gave 100% for us and he helped to take Millwall down! I would certainly chat with him in a pub and ask him about the difference between Boro and us - what it was like living up there and how awful, assuming it was pretty bad, at the scum. I think he has a good story to tell. A fine workman-like Championship player in my opinion.
Bailey is tarnished by the missed pen. He was largely decent for us
One of those players, like that mid-fielder who's name I can't remember who we got from Birmingham, who was dangerous in the opposition's area but almost as dangerous in his own.
I think it's safe to say that we probably got the best deal out of him. We almost doubled what we paid for him when we sold him and he scored 25 goals for us in two years playing in most of our games.
However, He never did anything to give the impression that he was ever interested in anything less than the maximum wage on offer and he 'engineered' moves to ensure that he got what he wanted.
I doubt he will be missed by any of the clubs he played for, and I also suspect that none of the fans that sang his name when he was with them would bother to cross the road to say hello to him now. I would say that it's a shame but, realistically, I doubt he cares. He earned a lot of money and, even though I suspect he wasn't intelligent enough to have any left, that was what he wanted.
What is any of this actually based on? I've seen quite a few people say things like this about him, but they also seem to forget that the guy was on the floor in tears when he missed that penalty.
Never played like someone who was 'only in it for the money'.
I wasn't thinking about the missed penalty and, in fact, I'd completely forgotten about it.
He as good as went on strike at Southend when he knew that we were interested in him, and I'm sure I read that he did something similar at Barnet when he joined Southend.
He also gave an interview when we were relegated where he made it clear that he didn't want to play for us in the third division and he wanted to move on.
There is no doubt that he always have a battling performance, when he wasn't lying on the floor like he'd had both his legs broken while the opposition went up the other end and scored. I just think that he was always in it for himself. I know all players are to some degree but he failed to disguise it very well.
I also thought that due to the sort of player he was he was a liability through the middle as he used to give away free kicks - often in very dangerous positions, and he could only be accommodated on the left cutting in scoring goals and leaving the left back exposed.
I know I'm not sounding impartial but I have to confess that I have not been able to have a good word to say about him when he didn't even wait a week after we were relegated to the third division before he issued a 'come and get me' statement. I thought that he should have been more respectful than that. Both Darren Bent and Luke Young left us after a relegation but both of them refused to suggest that they wanted to go. If Bailey had behaved the same as they did I might feel differently about him but I think he was an over rated player in what was a far from vintage Charlton side.
Was only a matter of time before his ridiculous antics of looking for a foul when none existed going to bite us not only did he miss the pen, but his wankish antics cost us a goal thst evening as well, ginger prick
