Injury Update from OS and Erol

First-Team Physiotherapist Erol Umut provides an injury update ahead of Saturday’s visit of Brentford to The Valley….

Thankfully, we didn’t pick up any fresh injuries against Preston last night and we expect to see one or two bodies back for Saturday.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson missed out after he picked up a dead leg against Reading, but he should be OK for the weekend.

Ahmed Kashi is struggling with a heel problem. He’s seeing a specialist on Wednesday afternoon to determine how quickly we can get him back without having any further reactions. We’re trying to get to the bottom of the injury, but we’re hoping to have him back sooner rather than later.

Stephen Henderson played for the U21s on Monday and that was an important run-out for him to get his minutes up after a prolonged period of time without a game. As he’s only just coming back, we have to protect him and watch him carefully before throwing him back into the first-team picture for 90 minutes so we don’t risk further injury. Part and parcel of any rehabilitation programme is to get them back out training, get them full strength and supervise their minutes, otherwise we’re putting them at a high risk.
Hendo will be the first one to tell you he wants to play, but that’s a decision we need to make between the coaching and medical staff.

Simon Makienok has already played more football this season than he did for the whole of last. He’s just recovered from his hamstring injury, but if we throw him in the deep end and give him loads of minutes, we’d be taking a big risk.
We’re trying to control his time on the pitch, but it makes it difficult when he’s one of our most influential players. We want him to play as much as anybody else, but we’re having to be careful. It will be a progression over the next two or three weeks where he will play 20, 40 or 60 minutes for example, so we’re having to try and use him to suit our needs.

Igor Vetokele is still doing rehab as he recovers from his groin problem which has been there since pre-season. He’s seen a specialist and we hope to step things up towards his return soon.

It was pleasing to see Reza Ghoochannejhad back on the bench after being out since the trip to Nottingham Forest. The specialist said it could take him up to 12 weeks to return, but because of his sheer hard work he’s come back after only nine.
He is another who will need to get some minutes over the next couple of weeks.

Johnnie Jackson made his first start last weekend, but considering the injury he had and how long he was out for, we have to be careful with how we use him. Like many of these players who are coming back from injury, we know that these are important games, but we have to look after them and be wise to avoid problems in the long term.

Cristian Ceballos remains in a protective boot. He picked up a stress reaction in his fibula, which is very similar to a fracture so we need to treat it in the same way. With an injury like that, you need around three months to let it settle down. He’s currently at week eight, so he will remain in the boot for the next two or three weeks.

Finally, Regan Charles-Cook has been missing for a few weeks after picking up an ankle injury in training. It was very swollen, but he’s been training for the last week so now he’s looking to be involved in Jason Euell’s U21 team on Monday.

Regarding Kashi - Cawley reckoned Hamstring, someone bumping into him said that he said he needed an operation on his calf. Luzon didn't want to comment on it. I'm pretty sure I read 'knock' elsewhere.. Now Achilles heel. Smokescreen...

Agreed HI. Probably because we see so little that my perception of this news is no more than crap PR.

Sure the intentions of the comms team/Erol etc. are sincere.

I love transparency and hate bullshit.
That's sounds an honest assessment from a medical man
and is also the 1st time i've heard what's the problem with Kashi.

In the last couple of years we are paying a high price in getting so many
players who had played few games in the season prior to signing for CAFC, consequently they are picking up injuries and the hard yards you have to achieve in the championship are taking there toll quite quickly

A completely see through attempt to try and "explain" the starting XI last night to the fans. In my opinion.

quite possibly but that is a GOOD thing.

The club have an OS so why not use it.

Communicate to fans, explain what's happening, keep people informed. Fans can still complain and be unhappy but this way at least they know a bit more.
    This.

So basically in the summer we mostly signed a bunch of injury prone duds to add to our collection of mostly injury prone duds!

I don't think there's any doubt that they are aware they have made some big PR errors this season and are trying to improve the situation by communicating more. I think they deserve some credit for that. Whether they will continue like this, if and when the results turn a corner and morale improves, is open to question.

There clearly is a case for saying that, given the lack of depth in the squad, the club might as well concentrate on getting the first XI back to maximum strength by mid-November, even if it means running a greater risk of losing every game in the meantime.

This actually sounds a hidden message as well... KM said the other day that she was aware of the injuries and that Luzon wouldn't be sacked on the back of them, after the chants last night, they've decided to explain the extent of the injuries by saying... Look we've told you, Luzon isnt being sacked due to injuries and this is why.

Well done to Reza to get back to full fitness within nine weeks rather the originally thought twelve though

I'm afraid we are a bit like a six times married divorcee - we're only ever likely to sign players that carry some sort of baggage.

Maybe I'm just getting more cynical in my old age but this just looks like badly done crisis PR.

People were tearful yesterday that the club had said nothing about injuries on the OS.

Now they do and it's described as crisis PR.

And perhaps it does explain a little bit about the starting 11 v bench.

Or maybe the physio is in on the great conspiracy against the fans as well now.

I don't have too many complaints about the information. Better than nothing and no more vague than is reasonable.

What as an emergency left back?

That's exactly the same format as the Rotherham link I posted on the Kashi injury thread.

For all you IA-haters who say there aren't many 'formats' available for general injury updates, well I could have posted a link to a Neil Redfearn video interview about their injuries, and then Charlton would have produced a video instead.

IA, setting the agenda since... earlier today

Probably why they were so cheap and we had no competition for them.

You'd think we'd never been on a bad run of results before. Half a dozen bad results capped by a shitty overall performance and the club can't do anything right and anyone and everyone should be sacked/shot.

There were so many people commenting on a previous post which was an attempt to raise spirits, but people responded saying things like "no one cares sort the shit out on the pitch" and "when's everyone back from injury" and rightly so IMO.
This post was just a response to the comments I reckon.

Yes but, wait a minute-the last time we went 9 games without a win Peeters got fired.
Before that it was 2011 that we last went on a run that bad, which led to the complete rebuilding of the squad and promotion the following season.
So this kind of bad run is not normal and does lead to major change.
