I'm only a casual F1 fan so not completely up on all the news but has Hamilton officially confirmed he is competing? I guess his presence at testing means he is but what's he said about F1's response to the end of last season?

Yeah Hamilton will be competing, the race director whl made the call at the last race has been moved on to another role.
This time last year I would not be found watching F1 because it was boring, since getting hooked following the last race of the season I am now sitting here at 08.45 in the morning watching them practice!!!
I’m 10 minutes into episode one and I’m already sick of hearing from Horner. He’s already said 3 things that are absolute bull shit. He’s a smug prick, and an irritating wind up merchant, but he also just chats so much bollocks.
Red Bull seemed to do some serious runs today, but I feel they were glory runs a little bit. Ferrari seem to be there or thereabouts every session and the car looks very "drivable". Mercedes are very vocally telling everyone how shit they are, which means they're very quick and don't want to tell anyone, McLaren seems to be quick but unreliable, and Alfa Romeo set an impressive time on the medium tyre compared to everyone else
I think Red Bull are ahead and by a fair distance….
Mercs philosophy is clearly producing tonnes of downforce…. Too much. The porpoising or bouncing down the straight at top speed is rendering the car undriveable
The question will be; is the Merc design creating enough extra downforce that they can afford to raise the ride height enough to negate the porpoise effect whilst maintaining enough downforce
I just hope that Merc haven’t built a barge that gives Hamilton no realistic chance of fighting for his eighth title. Given the circumstances in which it was snatched from him last season I think even the anti Hamilton crowd would say he deserves a fair shot at winning this year. I suspect we might see something similar to last year, where Merc have some catch-up to do but they have too many resources and brilliant minds not to get on top of any issues they may currently have.
Has anyone watched the new series of Drive to Survive yet? Just wondering if it’s just one big Whinger Spice and Crashstappen suck up?
Verstappen isn't in it at all , refused to take part so instead you get waaay too much Whinger Spice.
“They faked a few rivalries which they don’t really exist,” Verstappen said in an interview with the Associated Press last October. “So I decided to not be a part of it and did not give any more interviews after that because then there is nothing you can show.”
“I understand of course it needs to be like that for Netflix, that’s what every series on there as well or documentary or whatever you call it, it’s just not my thing.
“I’ll probably watch it and see how over the top it is, and just continue with my life. I’ll probably watch some other documentaries on Netflix.”
I think the Mercedes issues aren't them playing themselves down , I genuinely think they have real fundamental issues at the moment with that car.
This isn't them sandbagging in testing and then going 1-2 in qualy half a second clear of everyone like we've seen before. The car genuinely looks very difficult to drive .
As for who's out in front I think it's Red Bull and Ferrari by a decent length, although I'm sure Ferrari will find some way of messing this promising pace up. McLaren need to fix this brake issue they've got before I'll consider them up there.
There's always a chance a Bahrain specialist like Gasly who always goes well there will stick it right in the mix with the Alphatauri which has looked solid.
Would love to see Vettel back at the front with Aston but think that's probably unlikely from what I've seen.

Binged the whole series during a bout of insomnia. It is compelling viewing and brilliantly made. However I can’t help but think that quite a lot of it is staged for the cameras (e.g. Toto’s little “private” chat with George welcoming him to the team and the various set pieces on Toto’s jet and in his Monaco pad). And a lot of the dialogue is filmed retrospectively. But, as I say, I found it compelling viewing. The technology involved in filming it is breathtaking. I found pretty much the entire F1 community pretty hard to like with the odd exception (take a bow Guenther, the new Williams CEO whose name escapes me and, strangely enough, Hamilton who comes across as pretty grounded and humble). The rest are spoilt, driven (sorry) rich kids (I took a particular dislike to Norris and even gorgeous George appears to have a side to him. Mazepin is detestable. Tsunoda is a fruitloop. Danny Ric’s halo slipped a bit this time after being Mr nice guy in previous series. Max wasn’t quite as horrible as I expected him to be. The team principles didn’t come out of it well. Toto for all his brilliance is a very bad tempered control freak and Whinger is just a git. I guess those traits are what makes them successful in the job. Understandably given what happened the series is very focussed on the Toto v Whinger story but there is enough delving into some of the other teams to keep it interesting.
After the fiasco of last season I swore I wouldn’t watch F1 again. Drive to Survive has rekindled my interest. That makes it a top documentary in my book.
Tsunoda really does seem a utter nutter... He got asked in an interview the other days about his comments, when he said that even Franz Tost was fitter than him at times last season
Apparently he spent most of his time, ordering Uber Eats and playing video games
Because the regulations are so drastic, I can see teams going up and down. Mercedes will be in with a shout because they are such a big team. I think Ferrari will be the team to beat in the first race.
Just binged Drive to Survive, was very reluctant to watch it after Abu Dhabi, but pre-season testing this week, and the start of the season next week... Yup its got me hyped for the new season so thought why not.
Actually thought it was the best one they've produced - Perhaps because of the genuine drama on the track, they didn't really need to create any fake bullshit off it, which has really put me off in previous years. Of course the Norris / Ricciardo drama could have been stretched a little bit, but I'm not so sure... Thought whilst we saw the slight petulance from Norris (that has been seen anyway over 2021, he's trying to create a stroppy image that I dont think suits him), I thought we'd see the one-two as a bit bitter sweet for him @ Monza, but was nice to see how he was there.
Its nice they didnt focus the whole season on Toto vs Horner, and like SillyBilly says, love Capito - No surprise either that Steiner has been seen with a smile on his face in Bahrain this week, cant think why, even more so when you consider that the typically paranoid Russians have left the building - Christ almighty on that one!!.
Notice they added in a few scenes with Michael Masi @ Race Control, the cynic in me sees it as a bit convenient - Although the camera was always in the exact same position and Michael has his face mask on, so fully expect them to be reshoots.
Loved the final word from the next Bond villain... Toto has that role tied down!!
I do find the Lando thing quite interesting , he's even been quoted in interviews last season that he was trying to be less jokey than his first season . But the serious thing he was clearly trying in 2021 just felt all a bit of a facade.
George has been very much moulded in the Mercedes style , it's very much the exact Toto party line . Much like Red Bull and Max, although I hope it doesn't get that bad....
I can understand now why Franz Tost made Yuki move to Italy from Milton Keynes!!

I just watched the last episode and my feelings about Whinger Spice from Series 3 still stands: he is a cock of the highest order. Doesn’t have a single redeeming feature!
Why is that bellend getting so many shots ambling round his estate. The opening clip of him jogging through the countryside like he's a prize boxer prepping for his next fight is sickening. The crap of him on the horse with the mrs even worse. I cannot get my head round it. If I held his position I'd be more than happy to do interviews and give insight into the running of the team/story of the season, but the action shots as if he is the focal point of F1? I get that the producers would have asked for them, but tell them no. Have some pride in yourself
Should add I'm only through 4/5 episodes so far. It is still a class production and absolutely nails the remit of making F1 interesting for those who are not traditional fans. As a lifelong fan its amazing getting the behind the scenes access and its a weird thing to point out, but I actually quite like hearing the swearing and raw 'normal' convos they have with each other as mates/within team. Brings the human element to the corporate image conveyed in official interviews
I don't think I was prepared for how angry the last episode would make me again!
I REALLY hate Horner, I mean, REALLY hate.
Not difficult, is it?
Some people in the public eye artificially cultivate a particular persona purely for effect/reaction or just publicity. But with Horner I do not believe any of it is artificially cultivated - he is a completely natural c*nt.
Horner is a pompous twat. Whenever he winds me up, which is every time I hear his voice, I think back to Martin Brundle's put down of him at Singapore.

Mercedes turn up to Bahrain with a radical new design with no sidepods
Whinger Spice is already complaining it's illegal

If a Brit doesn't win the World Championship, then I'd be happy with one of those two; Sainz perhaps slightly more so
