It’s funny, because one of the biggest reasons behind Michael Masi’s ludicrous decision at Abu Dhabi a couple of years ago was to provide entertainment, but all they provided was controversy. It seems that this time, rather than make the same mistake again (although the circumstances of the two races are totally different) they’ve gone the other way, called a red flag quickly (which they should’ve done in Abu Dhabi) to give us a two lap race.
Unfortunately, they’ve cocked up again because the race didn’t need to stop and wouldn’t have been controversial if the cars had either coasted to the end or started racing again after the safety car. So they’ve tried to provide entertainment again and made a mess of it by causing controversy. Again. 😂
Trouble with this race is the first Red Flag, they didnt need to do that for a bit of gravel and debris - So when Magnussen crashed they decided to show consistency and Red Flag again, which was the right decision because of the earlier one.
Its all been done in the form of entertainment but unfortunately for Haas / Hulkenberg it looks like they're actually following the rules as best as possible now.
Be like the F2 earlier... Fittipaldi and Vesti came out of the pits on cold tyres and they were on an ice rink - The former barely lasted a few corners before crashing.
The FIA really have made a rod for their own back in recent years. They make decisions too quickly, they make decisions too slowly, they’re too harsh, they’re too lenient, they make decisions based on entertainment, they ruin the spectacle. They’re just a disaster. Even when their decisions are correct, they make a mess of it. 😂
We’re away and the race wasn’t being shown on the hotel’s TV. Shame as it was probably the first race for a while that was worth watching, if only for the farcical red flags.

Bit like Baku 2021... Great start to the race, Red Flag came out and completely ruined it (as took away the need for strategy / pit stops), it was then a borefest until the second Red Flag and endless drama
Just finished watching the latest season of Formula 1 - Drive to Survive and nothiung has made me change my mind about Red Bull, Horner and Verstappen! They did provide me with a good laugh though when Horner whines about no-one congratulating them on winning the championship after it came out that they had overspent/cheated!
Notice that there isnt a Free Practice 2 on a Saturday now, which was usually the case during a Sprint weekend - So the drivers dont get more time in the car.
What will be fun, is the fact there is just one Practice Session the whole weekend now, so getting your setup right at the very beginning will be crucial.
Something Red Bull havent been good at during the Sprint weekends - Of course usually they've been able to make up for it with their speed, but equally its probably what helped Russell win in Brazil last year.
Now, some will say that this has been done to reduce the impact of the DRS on the Redbull cars. That is possibly true, when you are running out in front the rules tend to get changed to slow you down... history tends to show this.
My worry is, whilst the DRS is strong for Redbull it may impact other teams negatively. But then again the DRS has been too powerful and the overtake is done half-way down some straights. I guess we will see what affect this has at the weekend.
I've got x2 Spanish F1 weekend(fri/sun) tix for sale if anyone is interested. I bought them for my brother as a Xmas present, but the dickhead forgot to renew his passport.
Anyway, i'll be sticking them on a resale site over the weekend if no one local wants them. I paid 400 Euros for the pair.
Just hope that nothing comes of his investigation with Daruvala now - Really hope that fires up his F2 season, as been difficult for him so far, what with his own performances and Theo taking him out @ Saudi
Didn't expect to see Charles on pole! That was a mega lap.
Hopefully, he can carry that pace into the race. Don't want to see another Red Bull win.
I expect as soon as DRS is enabled he'll get murdered by the Red Bulls down that long start/finish straight, even though they have shortened the DRS zone a bit.

We'll have Quali for the race on a Friday, which wont impact the Sprint
We'll then have a shorter Sprint Quali on Saturday, before the Sprint itself
Sounds interesting, as they're clearly trying to ensure that the latter doesnt impact the proper race - Drivers also get more time in the cars

Just got Formula 2 pole position @ Baku, his first in the series, with a broken steering wheel
Didnt realise he was the youngest on the grid
