Saw him in Canterbury years ago - The thoughts of Chairman Alf - We were in the second row and my wife fell asleep! Alf noticed and had a field day with her! Made references through the performance.
Loved the bit in the film of till death when he dropped acid!

Just got home and so sorry to read this. A friend worked at a theatre where he was performing, and said he was the most lovely man you could wish to meet, but even she would not dare to sit near the front when he became "Alf".

Great character actor. I always believed that Warren Mitchell was much older than he actually was. When the show was first aired he was barely 40 whilst Dandy Nicholls, who played his long suffering wife, was actually almost 60.
