  • I think the biggest two attributes for a football manager is to understand what you don’t know and have an excellent sense of the strengths and weaknesses of players and where improvements can be made. I think a postman could have these attributes – he could appoint others to do training, fitness etc…(what he doesn't know). This is where football can be a bit of a closed shop. Yes, footballers know the game and that brings a certain respect, but whilst there are some very intelligent ones, I don’t think the average IQ if you put all of them together would be that high. So there is a logic in getting somebody in to do a role that requires intelligence outside of that pool.
  • So hypothetically if Roland appointed a postman as Karel Fraeye's replacement and he won two of his first four games, you'd support his appointment??

No I wouldn't. My point was a general one. If he won a lot more games however, and demonstrated he was a good manager, I would.
  • What difference does his career background make? I don't care where he comes from what his background is.

If the bugger was any good he would not have spent the past years mixing it with the might Belgian division three has to offer.
  • one attribute required by a head coach/manager of a football team is to be able to "manage" his players and bring out their best playing and team attributes.

we had a 21 year old striker, who allegedly had a disruptive attitude, could bring the crowd to their feet with his skills - he's gone to Cardiff - Watt a waste

Fraeye may get support, but the process which brought him here should not

This. His appointment other than fixed term caretaker seems very risky.

  • What harm is there in waiting a few weeks to see if he's good or not? It may be that he and Ewell combined will make a team. As for Watt, we don't know what happens behind the scenes.

    LeaburnForEngland answers your response.

**Sorry for nicking this off you Leaburn!"

If he does well he should carry on...what else is there to say?

2 good wins after 2 bad defeats under his management, repeat that on a regular basis and at least we'll stay up!

    Will you be protesting Saturday?
I support the black and white idea because we need clarity over how the club's run and what the aims are. At the same time, despite Karel being yet another manager in a short space of time, I'd like to see him have a few more weeks just in case he turns out to be good. I thought we were dead certs for relegation and now I don't - so that has got to be a good thing.
You are aware of his career background I take it?

You mean, like Lennie Lawrence was a PE teacher and never played the game professionally?

Remember Ravel Morrison who was the next best thing to come out of Manchester and Fergie had enough of him so sent him to West Ham under Big Sam? He has now had 6 clubs in the space of 3 years ( one of the most recent being a certain club in Wales ). Some players have all the talent but no brains to go with it.

There will always be exceptions to the rule.
  • I'd suggest experience of the game and knowledge of the league are important otherwise managers wouldn't be sought after and would be widely available - anybody could do it!

    Surely things like

    - Tactical knowledge (so you can present challenges for the opponent and break down their setup)
    - Player knowledge (strengths and weaknesses)
    - Motivational approach (learning at least partially from experience)
    - Respect of players (from your past achievements)

and many more stem from having experience. Yes there will always be 1 or 2 that come in and do well through natural ability or luck. But that really must be the exception?
  • I don't like this Belgium set up at all but trying to look positively we hear that fraeye is the closest of all to Roly. Also he was recommending new signings for us. Now it's his neck on the block will we see our own manager actually sign a better quality footballer and even sign his own players?

    No.

Nah its Luzon's turn to pick the players now!!
  • Problem for Fraeye is the inevitable losing streak is going to unleash a whirlwind of doubt and negativity given his lack of credibility. He has nothing in the bank & no track record. His only hope is to put together a serious run now of excellent results as he is in my opinion not the sort of appointment the fan base will afford the luxury of time to change things....

Well, just give the guy a chance for a few weeks unless you think Pep Guardiola is on the brink of becoming manager.
  • 2 tweets from Cawley. Never an interim (shock). But also back in management. Seems his successful stint at Charlton has earned him a step up to the Belgian 2nd Division to Lommel United......

    God bless you Karel

Not that I want to suggest that you've been dreaming about Katrien too much (as if that could ever be possible), but this news was mentioned so long ago that even Colin might have got the "scoop" by now.

    Proved a success eh.

    Give the guy a chance.........
  • Bollocks... i thought the reference i gave him was for a library card!

Bollocks... i thought the reference i gave him was for a library card!

    Karel fraeye joins the CARD.

An almost WWE like huge twist in the tale where katrien pulls the most overly painfully fake smile upon awareness.

  • For people that were prepared to give Fraeye the benefit of the doubt when he took over.

1/You were desperate for him to succeed or
    2/You know nothing about football.
