That's my opinion of the best - not sure how 'influential' front men can be. But I suppose a decent example of that would be Plant being heavily influenced by Marriot.
Influential, in the way that they inspired others/a loyal following:
Bob Marley Robert Smith (sorry, personal favourite so has to be in every top 5/10 etc) Lennon/McCartney Debbie Harry Kurt Cobain
The best....hmmm...different IMHO
Robert Smith (see above) Freddie Mercury Thom Yorke Mick Jagger But then could have Damon Albarn, Ian Brown, Shaun Ryder etc etc as all very good at what they do....
That early 70s period of glam then "art" rock influenced an awful lot of bands and front men from the New Romantics through Suede and the likes of Franz Ferdinand
And of course James Brown, copied by so many including Jagger!

I was also going to say Robert Smith! I'm a fan of The Cure. Bloodflowers was the first Cure album that I listened to and I remember I was instantly hooked and became almost obsessed with their music during my years at the university.
I'm guessing here but there can't have been many other (any?) American rock singers who have been granted Freedom of The City of London. (A great gig at the Barbican afterwards too.)

Yes he's really one of the most influential frontmen, ever......said only you. Whenever we have a thread like this, you always get someone who picks an obscure person that the majority have never heard of, why?
