I heard Cousins had a decent few games in a league 1, can anyone confirm?
    WUM

    Wiki says:

"He made his professional debut on 6 August 2013 in a 4–0 win against Oxford United in the League Cup.[4] On 17 August 2013, he scored on his league debut in a 2–2 draw against Barnsley.[5] On 4 October 2013, Cousins signed a new three-year contract at the club, keeping him at The Valley until 2016.[6] On 31 July 2015, Cousins signed a new four-year deal.[7]

On 13 July 2016, Cousins joined Queens Park Rangers on a three-year deal".

I'd have him back in a heartbeat

This thread has got me looking back at statbanks and championship tables and had forgotten that we lost to the league champions at home on  the last day of the season two years running and both times 0-3

Also those statbanks are excellent work! @lancashire lad

Think he'd do very well in a midfield diamond on either side. He is a great athlete and can get up and back plus get stuck in.

Always felt he was somewhat harshly judged here. He isn't the best technical player in the world, but isn't the worst either, and is far better than Pratley.
  • 100% would take him back and just like SD said above, would really suit either side of a diamond with his energy levels and pace. I think his stock may have dropped so imagine where ever he goes he will have to take a pay cut.

I'd take him back in a heartbeat. I also rate him much, much higher than Pratley (who let's not forget is now 34, and while in decent shape for his age, is more than likely to decline sooner rather than later).

His physical attributes, if he's near to as fit as he was when he left, would be a huge boost in the Championship. He could work in a number of roles given his versatility and stamina.

Also, we're not exactly going to be splashing the cash, and as Callum said, we could do a hell of a lot worse on a free - assuming, of course, the wages aren't a stumbling block.

on the cusp of league 1 autos and our esteemed owner sold 1 half of a lethal strike force and got a fella in who's clubs have included wealdstone and couldn't get in a gillingham side - now josh worked his socks off and done okay but thats the type of twat we have in charge, cousins will be wanting a decent wage and we haven't got the cash for a gamble or sub player.

If we were to take him back, then the only position he should be in is defensive midfield, maybe in the Pratley role - or as others have suggested, back to the right back position he played years ago.

He is not an attacking player though. When he was playing left wing for us due to a player shortage he was completely out of his depth. His last season with us finished with one assist and one goal from what I recall.

We were relegated. Academy products who work hard will generally get the rub of the green in those situations when very few others have produced the quality to help us get results.

Also won it the year before when we had the likes of JBG, Buyens, Diarra and Gomez.

We went through 3 managers in 15/16 and had a very inexperienced squad made up of a lot of young and/or foreign players new to English football.

He had some obvious weaknesses but he played a big part in a team that competed in the Championship for two seasons between 2013 and 2015.

I voted him because he was our best player that season, as he was the season before. He may not have been your player of the season, but please do not try and re-write history.

He won it because he was our best player. End of.
  • best player - In your opinion. I was really pleased he left us and not surprised he didn't make it at QPR. His stats are something like 8 goals in 190 games for a midfield player no positivy , really would be a step backwards for us. when you compare his creative ability to someone like Ben Reeves who we have let go, to take him back just wouldn't make sense.

Not just my opinion. The opinion of the majority of Charlton fans who voted.

Ben Reeves is not a defensive midfielder, and certainly cannot play right back or central defence, so why to compare him to Reeves?

That said, I would prefer Cousins to Reeves in midfield anyway as I think he is a class above.

A midfield full of Ben Reeves type players would get pummeled to death in the Championship. You need attacking and defensive players in a balanced midfield.

Reeves has far more ability on the ball than Cousins, but Cousins does have tackling and an engine. He'd be Pratley with legs. Which could be useful.

Saw cousins in Homebase in Catford today. Didn’t realise how tall he was!

I saw some cousins in Catfird too! It's normal for them to be procreating.

Jesus Christ. Some peoples opinions on players are truly bizarre. These are some of the best 'engine' type centre mids in the world's stats. Kante, Verratti, Casemiro and Rodri. Goals to games means nothing if you play a specific role in a team. Some of our fans are in for a rude awakening next season turning their nose up at a player like Jordan Cousins I'm afraid.

Not enough goals by the looks of things, wouldn't have them here.

In 3 season with us he played 136 games and was virtually ever present. In 3 seasons with QPR he only played 70 games and had a lot of injury problems, which is a concern as his good energy and fitness were major assets of his.

Agree we should probably go for him. Only issue could be wages. I’m sure Bowyer can improve him as well.

Seem to remember a lot of energy and running with fairly limited first touch and passing. Admittedly this is against championship level midfield. Maybe Bowyer reckons he can coach first touch but I reckon he’s better at coaching players with decent skills to put a bit more effort in.

I see a lot of references to Cousins' first touch (or lack thereof).

Any of you old enough to remember Jason Euell playing for us in the Premiership and being our top scorer for 3 consecutive seasons?

If I read the phrase 'Euell's first touch is a tackle' once back in Netaddicks days I read it a thousand times.

If Cousins is fit (not sure if he's a bit injury prone these days) and Gallen reckons he's still good enough (Gallen has very strong QPR connections).

Bowyer would sign him up in a shot if the wages were agreed.

nostalgia rules too many hearts over heads on here .. he was super keen to get away from CAFC when things weren't going too well .. there are surely players out there who are more talented, younger, hungrier and not so mercenary .. Cousins back to the Valley ? .. a big NO from me

It wasn't just his first touch that was "limited" - his last touch was faulty as crossfield passes regularly sailed out of play.  We must do better than that.

He gave the ball away more than any of our current midfield do (Pratley aside) and had little instinct for playmaking. He'd be a purely destructive/athletic option - would get about the pitch and help us hold a shape. Put him alongside people who can pass and it might work, but I'd rather all our midfield can pass the ball properly.

I wonder how many people who say they would take him back are doing so based on fond memories or of actually seeing him play the last 3 years? Three years is a long time. Ibrahimovic went from PSG-quality to LA Galaxy-quality in the same period.

whilst i see what you are getting at, Ibrahimovic went from 34 to 37 and suffered a serious injury. JC is still only 25.
