  • With strangers, particularly at networking events, I do that that thing where you shake hands, lock thumbs, lock fingers, slide hands, fist bump, but then go for a high five, miss, lean forward, and shake each others ankles.

    With mates a personal insult
  • 'hows your sister/misses/mum?' Usually..

I like this. A silent dignified acknowledgement between two real men. :-)

  • You wanted to be thankful you don't live in Caernarfon

What's the opposite of a nod? ie where you tip your head upwards (not shaking head)

I do that, handshake and (occasionally) hug.
  • Just the secret Masons handshake for me and my chums.
  • Handshakes in general, hugs for old friends.

    Under no circumstances whatsoever:

    Fist-bumps

That claspy, grip thing that footballers - even refs and linesmen ffs - do before games

    High-fives

  • Living in rural Shropshire meeting another human being is always a big deal, gotta be a hug.
  • First person says 'alright'

    Second person replies 'alright'

First person then says 'is someone getting the beers in or what?'

    A jerk?

    This one.

And if it's somebody you really bond with add a slight knowing eyebrow raise, of just one eyebrow.

  • I once knew a guy who I didn't see often, but when I did, would give the most bone-crushing handshake I've ever encountered. It took me by painful surprised the first couple of times, but the third time I remembered and got in there early with as firm a handshake as I could manage. He looked at me, eyes wide, a sense of mild awe on his face and said "Good shake!"

I don't really have any friends, but some guys I work with go for the sort of genial pat on the arm thing?
  • This thread has reminded me about the Wikipedia high 5 page
  • Wasssssssuuuupppppp

    (I have no mates)
  • Handshake for those I see on a regular basis. Hug for those I only see occasionally.

  • Kiss my teeth and say "wagwan"

    It's croydon after all.
  • depends on the mate. some would want a quick hug. some did hold on for a bit too long though. most of the time it's a simple alright, possibly followed with a handshake.

with my best mate to this day I still do the fresh prince handshake though...

  • Am I the only one that lifts my trouser leg up and whistles the Brazilian national anthem?

then tie them over a log and tell them to squeal, that sort of thing?
