Spartacus, of course, died in battle at the end of the Third Servile Revolt. Rome initially saw the revolt as a policing matter but eventually had to send in the army under Crassus.
The remnants of the revolt, some 6,000 individuals were captured and crucified, making for a gruesome spectacle for travellers along the Appian Way.
Meanwhile, to maintain discipline, Crassus reintroduced decimation. That is the slaughter of a tenth of a cohort (480 legionaries) or larger unit by their comrades (lots were drawn to determine who were the executed and who did the executions). Estimates vary between 48 and 1,000 soldiers to have been killed but it is generally considered that discipline was maintained as a result.
Perhaps Roland has been in town as he has decided a similar discipline regime would work on the players - pour encourager les autres.
The original meaning of decimation - removal of a tenth - has been mangled in modern usage.

I know we are supposed to assume that everything KM says is a lie but did she not say in the FF that he often comes to London midweek? I'm sure (and I'm not watching it again) she made the point that he would come to more games if they were midweek as he comes 'midweek'.
Does that make it, at all, possible that this is a normal scheduled visit? I.e. it, actually, means nothing that he is in London. If, for example, he had a relationship with a women (or a man) in London, say, he might come over every week and it might have nothing to do with us at all - even if this woman (or man) was employed at the club, for example.2 -
