  • I'm Charlton Till I Die!
(unless I don't like the owner or a player or the new kit or the sponsor or the amount of chips or the poor selection of vegetarian options or the weather or the Tories, in which case
    I'm Ebbsfleet For A While!)
  • No.

Support this club to I die and will continue to go to games.

Made the decision to get a season ticket at Ebbsfleet next season and not renewed my Charlton one for the first time in 20 years. if Peter Varney can't come to us then why don't we go to him? I've always considered them a second team and even had my £35 share in the myfootballclub scheme a few years back. Plenty of ties with Charlton apart from Varney. 20 minute drive down the A2 from The Valley and well connected via train with high speed and the international station. A good selection of pubs around the ground as well.

£200 for an adult season ticket and you can take in an under 12 for free as well. Anyone else fancy it?

Good luck ... That's not for me. I have the opportunity to go every week as a guest of our accountants but always find an excuse not to.
  • Me and a few friends have discussed this matter. Of which we don't want to attend whilst RD is in charge, we will still go away games of Charlton. But we won't be getting a season ticket at Ebbsfleet but instead attend games every now and then at £13 (roughly) an adult ticket to socialise. It's depressing it's come to this.

That's probably a better way of what I was trying to say. I haven't paid for a season ticket yet but will consider it. It's as much as a social thing as a charton thing. All my social group and family are charton and for the first time in 20+ years, at the last home game I was the only one present, I enjoy going for a beer etc before the game and I find that's half the enjoyment so will follow my group to Ebbsfleet, not switching alliances but just to make sure a penny doesn't reach the Belgians. Will definitely still do a usual few away games with Charlton though.
  • I wouldn't get a season ticket but shall certainly be going to a few Fleet matches next season , that and Sheppey United.
  • I like both Dartford and Ebbsfleet, watched both regularly when I was growing up in Greenhithe, but would never put either of them before Charlton, not knocking you in the slightest, I know a few old mates who just got fed up with supporting the 'big' clubs and now go and see Dartford or Ebbsfleet...they even go away with them...and it's not as if you are going to support West Ham....so if that's what you fancy why not.
  • No thanks I hate gravesend sorry ebbsfleet that's right they sold the name for money. They are not like Charlton at all and I wish people would stop comparing them.
  • Not for me...but good luck

  • Hmmm, maybe not the thread to mention applying for a seaso down at the New Den then?
  • Anyone would think I was rallying troops to go to Syria and join ISIS!

Apart from the obvious with the club it is more of a personal issue, it don't enjoy it anymore. As a shift worker with a very young family my social life is in tatters anyway so the chances I do get I like to make the most of, Charlton for me just isn't that now. It doesn't mean I've suddenly lost my allegiance to them, just rather spend some time with friends / family at my local non league football club. Will still make a few Charlton away games and keep valley gold running.
  • I love Charlton, even though I go to Welling when Charlton are away.. I just can't stop myself from going to The Valley, it's just a hobby of mine and my dad's, what else would I do with my Saturday's if it's not spent at Charlton?!

Although I really do applaud those Addicks that are refusing to get a season ticket for next season, thus refusing to fund the regime.

We'll all see each other again when Roland's gone.
  • Isn't this doing what Katrien suggested? She compared going to football like going out for a meal. If your usual resturant starts dishing up shit every week, do you carry on regardless and eat it, don't bother going out anymore and have to put up with the missus burnt offerings, or do you go to a different resturant?

She wants to treat us like punters, so why not act like it?

Despite having a ST, I've been to more Ebbsfleet games this season than Charlton (as I am born & based in the town) and class them as my 2nd team. In fact, I was there today and will contiue attending when I need a football fix..........
  • This is like cheating as far as I'm concerned. But luke stopping smoking cigarettes but going onto roll ups instead

I'm not renewing next season as a protest, not because we don't win much. Fucking hell, I'm a Charlton fan I got over that years ago. I'm also going to hugely miss the once a season falling when we turn over a powerhouse like Queens Park Rangers with one of the last heroes we will ever have scoring a peach of a header in the last minute. I don't see the point of watching live football if I don't have an emotional attachment or am a scout or journalist.

Ebbsfleet is not my love and I don't even give a shit about them since they changed their name to be more welcoming to people who don't know where Gravesend or Northfleet is.

There are lots of very loyal 'customers' dropping season tickets next season not because of a looming relegation but because of the toilets running things

But what's so wrong with other people doing so if they enjoy watching a game, even as a neutral?

No different than sitting indoors and watching a match on sky. even as a neutral, I find myself rooting for one team over the other............

Nothing wrong with it at all beyond me not agreeing. How anyone chooses to spend their Saturdays isn't my business but my opinion is I would struggle to enjoy going to somewhere like Ebbsfleet unless I had an emotional attachment. Watching football on television is effortless. Don't like it? Flick over to he only way is Essex.

The effort required to go anD watch a game in the flesh is exactly that, an effort. Unless a mate or family member is playing for someone I struggle to be enthused about watching anyone other than charlton or England

I went to the Champions League semi final match Chelsea v Barca when Chelsea won 1-0 a few years back and it felt a bit dirty watching another club and I had pangs of guilt being somewhere I shouldn't be and i get that still when not there now
The best footy can be watched on telly , and the best banter with mates is in a pub not in a football ground and you can do both in some pubs
I'd rather someone put their footy cash elsewhere than gave any to this freaks experiment
Imagine if no one a but a few hundred fruits turned up to watch Charlton that would make a real difference and force the loons hand surely
I've got 4 young boys to keep busy on Saturday afternoons , the easy and cheaper option would be to get Charlton season tickets but why this filth are involved no thanks , I'll get em to a few away games
It's gonna be hard as someone who has been going pretty regular for nearly 40 years but this isn't about me or the boys it's about the (hopefully) long term future of our club

  • Back in 60s/70s there wasnt a London club I didnt visit when Charlton was away - watching football for the sake of it. no real passion in watching other clubs - just football appreciation.

2 Charlton season ticket holders who went for decades (stood by the side of the old stand) also had season tickets at Millwall & Westham as well but always considered Charlton were "their" club and this was long before Charlton were more fashionable. It needs to be added that football was as cheap as chips .... Walk through Woolwich foot tunnel, 101 bus to Upton Park for 3p, 5p for program and 20p to get in!

    Good selection of pubs?

I live 5 minutes away in Ingress Park, barely any pubs within close walking distance
Correct - I'm in Dartford so I would never go and watch Ebbsfleet - but you are right, there are zippo decent pubs near their ground

Don't see the point in going to watch a game in which you don't support one team ( unless it's a freebie or going to watch world class players ). I have been to games not featuring Charlton and as a neutral there is nothing to get excited or emotional about.

And very enjoyable it is too! Just don't let Mr Tatters find out..........
  • Last week a couple of mates asked if I fancied going to see Hastings play...wasn't tempted in the slightest the pub with live music was much more appealing....in fact the pub without music would have been more appealing.
  • Building work started at Ebbsfleet last week for new stand (s)
  • Went to watch Ebbsfleet yesterday and I thought they played well. They look certainties to win their league now. I go to the odd game as it's walking distance from my house but would never get a season ticket personally
  • Personally I couldn't do that, if I don't go to Charlton, then I don't go to football.

Fair play to you though if that's what you want to do.
All this don't bother coming back nonsense - come back when Roly has gone - but until then don't put money in his pocket.

Think of all those 10-15 thousand that have disappeared over a few years. Play attractive winning football and connect with your locals and it will happen!
