I agree to an extent, even in other previous poor years there has been one player that probably just about deserved it. It's lucky there are still fans who don't use this forum or others, and will support this event. Those who talk about wanting "their" club back, but will not support an event run by fans for fans do amaze me. I know it's not been a good season, to put it mildly, but I've seen just as bad, or even worse, in my time. We should be showing the regime that we respect tradition and enjoy a good social event. Fanny and co. work very hard to ensure all goes well on the night, who will take it on when they get fed up with the apathy I don't know. It won't be any of those boycotting will it? Before anyone asks, yes, I am going! I also intend to enjoy myself!9

It's not really being "run by fans" though, is it ? It's being organised by fans but presumably they have had no say over the venue, catering or ticket price ? FYI
The basic state pension is £115.95 per week.
Average council tax in London is about £25 per week.
Similarly the average energy bill is about £25 per week.
Water is about £8 per week.
TV Licence is about £3 per week.
Average phone/TV/broadband is about £17 per week.
Leave out housing costs, transport, insurance, food bills and so on.
Delaware North reckon that £37, actually lets say it's £30 per head for them, is a good price to pay for;

For somebody with the disposable income remaining from the basic state pension Delaware North, even at £15 per person free and clear, are taking 10% of a weekly old age pension just for their greedy dreary foul tasting selves, leaving aside that the individual is actually stumping up a lot more to cover all the costs.
This might be all well and good if the food was decent, but Delaware North serve up food that a pig might balk at.

I know a lot of hard work goes into these events and have heard that if we don't have one we may loose them forever but can't help but feel a Supporter Of The Year event held at an alternate venue raising money for similar causes would receive more support.
It could show recognition for Seb, the St Truiden 20 and others on here, the glitz to the event could be provided by ex-players happy to fly against the regime.
But I know organise it myself etc...
Ian and others put a lot of effort into the night but right now I see Delaware North as indicative of the regime and would not want to pass a penny to them.13 -

I did say ex-players there are plenty out there that sympathise with our lamentable current situation.

Problem with going elsewhere is venues want payment in advance. CAFC/North Deleware do it on tick.
I know you are going to get upset Seth but really, you do realise that caterers have to employ and pay people to cook and serve food and as commercial companies make a profit (they hope).
It's silly to say buy some stick in the oven pies and serve them as if that is a realistic comparison.
I can make a curry at home for a few £££ or I can go to the local curry house and pay more. I get service, someone else cooks, washes up and cleans the venue that they have furnished and employed staff to work in.
I know it costs me more but I trade that for the convenience and hopefully the quality of the food.
Don't disagree that £37 is a lot for two courses but you are buying a ticket to an event with food not just a meal.
Having POTY not at the Valley would also be criticised.
Ian and Jean are victims of the ludicrous deal that Ben Kensell did with NDS and that KM allowed to happen because she didn't read the small print or think about the consequences of outsourcing just like she didn't realise that other kit providers wouldn't run the shop or that the people who sold the programmes also owned the stands that the programmes were sold from. Bad management and lack of questioning beyond the headline figure.10 -

I am influenced by how awful the food was last year, where a stick in the oven pie would have been so much better. If you go to a curry house, you have a degree of choice, you can also request a different dish, and you can choose the expensive items or the cheaper items.
What we have here is almost like the Duchatelet approach in microcosm. Delaware North can serve up the most vile stuff, there is no choice, take it or leave it....and pay handsomely for the privilege.
Delaware North are presented as the monopoly in this regard, and because they are the only game in town, they are at liberty to do what Duchatelet does, treat the 'customers' with contempt. I wonder if it was Delaware North behind the contemptible 14 chips thing, or failing to deliver to the 'Bournemouth displaced', they need not give a damn about the Charlton Athletic supporters, because as you say, Ben (sweat the asset) Kensall did us all up like kippers and then buggered off.
I also get the ticket to the 'event' bit. In that regard I wish Jean and Ian every success. I see them as rather taken advantage of in this, and to an extent held to ransom because they are always so committed to the pleasure and celebration of the evening. What has been a very positive event (beyond the food thing) up to now, has this year had to be wrested from the control of Miere, and yet even now Miere can still effectively control things without the responsibility.
Miere controls the space, the food, and the degree to which players and staff will engage, and if things are not to he liking she can dig out the organizers, as she so gracelessly did last year, a classic example of power and control without the responsibility.
A lot of my moaning would be mitigated if, for £37, everybody had a slap up meal, and if Delaware North are reading this thread, and as a result up their game food wise, I won't expect any thanks, but i will secretly take the credit.
On Saturday is my wedding anniversary. Last year myself and Mrs Plum went for a slap up afternoon tea at Fortnum and Masons, and this year without the football, we will go somewhere up town again.
The Fortnum and Mason experience was impeccable, but it cost about £90 for the two of us. We could have gone somewhere else, and they knew it, and treated us like special and wanted guests. the nosh was beautiful.
The POTY event this year (I saw the fans forum video) is like Katrien doing us, and especially Ian and Jean a great big favour by 'allowing' it. I know when I go out with Mrs Plum on Saturday wherever we end up, the people will be glad to see us, and not be barely tolerating us under sufferance.
Blimey that's a long post, and Henry it is not supposed to be an argument, it is my current take on things.12 -
