Also a fan of Butland, seems a good honest pro enjoying what he does and helping others along the way. I think he donated 5k so the womens deaf team could play in a tournament in the summer.

Also definitley worth a mention is Daniele de Rossi, not only an absolute warrior who is a one man club but also does fantastic work for charity (Along with AS Roma as a whole).

Saw this headline today and thought it was a fantastic heart warming gesture.

Santi Cazorla. He just seems to really like playing football. Plus I always get the feeling he secretly finds the Arsenal fans' bleating hilarious, which is as it should be. He's like the anti-Wilshere
  • Socrates for his completely "unique" combination of professional football and medicine.

Trifon Ivanov (died recently, I think), Bulgarian defender, utterly mad facial hair and bloody good player in the World Cup.

I know he's been denounced and sent to the salt mines on here for his comments, but I always thought Shay Given seemed like a decent bloke.

Luis Enrique. My favourite ever player. He absolutely had it all as a player, won everything the game had to offer (Apart from with Spain, who were a shambles when he played) and has a reputation for being a grounded man. Left football when he could easily have gone to the middle east or the USA to pick up a massive wage for a couple of seasons doing fuck all and instead started doing triathlons.

Now doing a great job of keeping up the barca way of playing up and bringing youth team players through.

James Henry in the first half at Wolves.
That was the first time a Charlton crowd had chanted for an opposition players name who had never played for us ?
TBF we thought there was still a chance he may Sign.

When Roland found out his name was Henry and not Henri,
and wanted a championship wage we were screwed.

    Di Canio.

Loved watching him play, even before he joined us. Some of his valley performances for West Ham were amazing.

David Beckham. Just seems like a decent bloke and family man (disregarding the alleged incident with Ms Loos). Does lots of charity work and has / is great ambassador for our footballing nation IMO.

Probably someone else equally deserving who I've met and completely forgotten about. But also shout out to Le Tiss for same reasons as someone has said - one club man, genius footballer and seems decent chap too.
  • Paulo Di Canio. Not only for the excitement and joy of watching him play. When my son was match mascot when we played Portsmouth at the Valley, Paulo really made his day special for him. He took him round all the players with his autograph book, then Paulo wrote in block capitals each players name for him. He even made sure he got the palyers who were injured etc. And to watch my sons face when Paulo had a kick about with the kids was something. When I thanked Paulo for what he did for my son, he said he really hoped he made him very happy. Too right he did, my son still says that day is his best memory.
  • I wish Paulo would come back as our manager.

Cannavaro - World Cup 2006 what a player he was. He could have won that cup on his own. He's also a funny guy and seemed really decent on TV as a pundit at the Brazil World Cup.

Always had a soft spot for Dennis Tueart - shame his England career never really got off the ground. Remember his great overhead kick to win the '76 League Cup final

    Excellent stuff that.

PDC signed the first programme of that season for me. He felt it was unique that an overweight 24yo was so excited.

Nigel de Jong. Brilliant defensive midfielder, reads the game incredibly well, and is actually very technically gifted--he started as a #10 at Ajax before Sneijder moved him back.

Pablo Zabaleta, really nice, really funny guy, hell of a footballer.

Xabi Alonso, his range of passing and reading of the game are remarkable, doesn't get the praise he deserves. And handsome to boot.
