  • I think Parker showed great durability and that’s the only reason it wasn’t a classic , some of what he was caught with would’ve stopped others

The ref did not let it flow but has form for it same fucka as we had for Isaac in Denmark

I thought it was a great boxing match for the skills shown and showed a lot about what AJ has learned over the 20 fights previous

agreed, Parker throws a half decent punch and can also take one. Very good all round fighter. AJ was just too good, helped mostly IMO by purely being bigger. Parker was a little quicker than I thought but just didn't have enough to beat someone like AJ.

Ref was a little quick and perhaps ruined a few close ups which might have made it a bit tastier.

AJ is very very good, showing his versatility now and I'm not sure anyone beats him over next few years.
  • Of course the sport is Boxing and not Fighting. One for the purists but for me personally it was a bore. I like a scrap. Have to agree that the ref didn't want one though.
  • Decent fight between two great boxers. Wasn’t the brawl the majority would’ve wanted but showed Joshua’s maturity and again that he can go the distance with the best of them, I don’t think his stamina/durability can be questioned anymore. He can win a fight at any point within the 12 rounds.

There you go, I've fixed that for you.
  • I thought when the fight progressed to the later rounds Parker might have had a show but he was clearly outfoxed.

The previous fight was a cracker but what a shame the ref couldn't have stepped in to stop that final left hook going in. It was like taking a penalty with no goalkeeper. Time for price to retire before he gets hurt.
  • AJ far too big and strong with a longer reach, was almost like a sparingly session for him although Parker was quicker than I thought and obviously very game but the ref didn't help him one bit as he went inside. The Price KO was brutal and time for him to retire now.
  • Fury would school AJ

    Dream on.

    Fury would school AJ

The TF that fought a very poor WK on the night would be a very tough test for AJ.

I think that the chances of that same TF making an appearance any time soon (if ever) are very slim.

Even when he’s finally fit TF would need a couple of tune up fights first.
  • Does fury have any fights lined up?

My NZ uncle what was wondering what was left for Parker. He's done well, but a rematch won't be box office, and Fury and Wilder are the big matches people would get excited about.

Aside yesterday that povetkin was mandatory for one of the belts, Whyte wants to fight him. Whyte I believe is also mandatory for the WBC belt. Might AJ abandon a belt so he doesn't have to fight a mandatory?

It's all hotting up. Just need fury fit, as he's unfinished business

  • Fury doesn’t even have a license yet as far as I know
  • Whyte vs Povetkin will be a great scrap... Winner gets a mandatory at Wilder... AJ fights Fury and winner of each of those fights each other
  • Am I the only one that thought the scoring of the 3 judges was fucking disgusting. Referee was also dangerous, how did he miss the tape flapping all over the place? Because he was the wrong side all night.

Joshua probably edged it but away from home he could have expected a different result. I wasnt impressed, he's only got one plan and Parker showed a way to beat him.

I'm by far no means an expert on boxing, but I thought it was far far closer 11-1 or 10-2

    Shit £21 worth of boxing.

I sort of agree. Although it was best pure boxing I have seen from Joshua. Although He looked scared to engage and throw combos to me. Also proved to me he don't carry huge power. Great display by Joshua though I had it 116-112.

Agreed the scorecards were a bit out but don’t agree AJ edged it, clear winner in my opinion. Would have expected him to get a comfortable result in away from home today.

I also disagree regarding one plan. Think he’s really maturing and getting better each time. He’s unbeaten, winning his fights, not sure much what else he can do.

Can’t see him being beaten myself. A primed Fury gives him a test but not sure we will see him again, certainly not the same one.

I've now had time to reflect on the fight.

I like a good scrap like the next man, but boxing is my number one sporting passion and I'm also a boxing purist. Joshua knew he was up against an unbeaten world champion who would be dangerous and with very quick hands - so he prepared for the fight both physically (weight) and tactically. In many ways he schooled Parker, toyed with him, and was looking just as strong at the final bell as he was at the first. He showed real ring craft - we've always known about his power and now he is becoming a very good boxer. Every fight he learns more, and is getting better and better.

Last night Anthony Joshua came of age as a boxer.

P.S. Great to see Ray Leonard at ringside looking so well. A true legend and for me the best pound for pound boxer in my lifetime.

Mate absolutely spot on I have had this discussion just now with a good mate and I stick by it last night saw a coming of age of AJ and it showed he had learned something in all 20 previous fights

It’s not AJs role to be this ruthless reckless fighter who bows to the craving of those who want to see real wars fight in fight out, It’s AJ’s job to fullfill his potential and the attributes he was blessed with to the maximum, he owes that to his sponsors his family his friends and himself

I have been very critical of the noises coming from within the world of boxing as to who he has been listening too and the choices he has been making especially with regards fight plans and weight

Yesterday Team Joshua got it spot on from start to finish

I love a scrap I love a slug fest and the feeling of VFM when you get a war but personally I enjoy the art of boxing I enjoy the battles that take place between teams and the mental side of it

Parker’s team won the mental battle they planted the seed of doubt in AJ and his chin and they over stated the ability of Parker to catch AJ and it showed not only did AJ learn that he needed to fit behind the Jab he also was cautious in how he attacked

But the saying pick your battles to win the war was key here they picked the wrong battle as all they done was ensure AJ won the war

I believed AJ would go out to blast him out and he done the complete opposite And he never intended it to be any other way so there was the development the growing and coming of age , he matured infront of us all yesterday

I have always said Fury beats AJ today I still believe that but for the first time I have a doubt in that prediction
Agree with all of this but....

Heavyweights, in my mind, has always been about big shots and knockouts.

Can't even recall a big shot unfortunately
  • I'm not buying it I'm afraid, I've watched hundreds of bouts and thousands of rounds of boxing. I'm not convinced Joshua was boxing to a plan, I think he shaded the fight but the point I'm making was how over egged everything was towards Joshua. I watched the fight again this morning without the sound on which is sometimes the best thing to do as you can get wound up or go along with the commentaries but the first 2 rounds were comfortably Parkers and without remembering which ones I thought Parker did enough to make it a 1 or possibly 2 round fight. Joshua landed some decent shots sporadically but he looked uncomfortable with Parkers movement and angles.

I want Joshua to do well and absolutely dominate what I'm getting the hump with is Hearn and his publicity and bullshit machine. I hope Joshua listens to Rob McCracken and not Eddie Hearn

I have heard that as well from Steve Bunce on the BBC boxing podcast, the real question is whether he is going to have the hunger and desire to get back to where he was?

Have heard him interviewed previously, and he openly admitted that part of him would be happy if the Klitchko fight remained his career peak - a worrying admission.

The other problem that he has of course is that he isn't exactly Mr Popular in the boxing world, and not too many promoters will be lining up to work with him, after all of the drug problems and other issuues.

Clearly he has the ability to beat AJ or Wilder, but does he have the discipline for 2/3 years of hard work and keeping his nose clean?

    Not so sure myself.

Mate promoters will be tripping over each other to sign him. Aside from Joshua he's the biggest draw in boxing. Agree about the doubts around his application though.

All this said, who believed he would do what he did to Klitchsko? I didn't
  • I can’t agree with the fight view from last night carts but like football, boxing is about opinions I try to always watch the fight without sound as I can’t stick the bs you here ,

I would much rather AJ is listening to RM but even if he is only listening to Eddie then that’s a lot better than who was influencing the program

Tyson has the desire but it’s a single one man desire and this is from him not a podcast or interview it’s from the horses mouth in Manchester 6 weeks ago now

He ain’t interested in Parker or wilder and he knows he has to get out before Dubois he is lasered in on AJ as he genuinely believes he is no more than a pumped up body builder and that he can beat him easily by not getting hit

He respects him as an Olympian and as a professional boxer they all do respect each other having the bollox to go through the ropes and do what they do but he does not rate him

I think the offer to Shannon Briggs is a genuine one I think that if he takes that fight it will show he is serious , there was talk it could be Joyce but haye won’t entertain that

It needs to be big enough to get a bite and not risky enough to jeopardize the 50 mil fight

Then it will be Joshua in a winner takes all if Eddie can avoid the mandatory shots without sacrificing a belt then it could happen the end of this year if he can’t then I see it as a spring fight next year
  • Fury has not boxed for two and a half years, he has arguably wasted the two best years of his athletic life ballooning up to 26 stones in weight and filling his body with junk.

He has ability for sure but a 12 round World heavyweight fight is a massive challenge against anyone let alone a guy like Joshua who is supremely conditioned.

You can’t really change who you are and Fury is too old to change who he is at this stage.
  • Thought at times Joshua was chasing it a bit and was looking for the big finish.
Will be interesting if he's a few points down in early rounds, hopefully he'll be mature enough to keep his composure.
Wilder will be a totally different prospect.
  • Well that was an experience for sure. I was so high up in the stand I could of probably uppercut Jesus. I’ve never been so bloody cold in my life. The part we was in backed on to the old Cardiff arms park. The whole atmosphere was amazing and watching the fight on the big screen was good. In the Mexican v Burnett fight I thought the Mexican fought well. Burnett seemed to cocky to me. The Russian v Price fight. To see that knock out on the big screen WOW. The main event was good. The whole ring walk and build up was very good. The fight was ok in parts. Coming out I never realised that there was so many women liked boxing. Trying to get a taxi nightmare. Got stuck in traffic because of an accident on m4. Got in a 5:25 am considering I live only an hour away. Next time I m going to save and save and buy a ticket on the floor. But still a good experience.
  • If he doesn't fight Joshua next, does Wilder have to face Whyte as a mandatory?
