  • That's really rough on George Groves but if he isn't fit a fight like that isn't really the time or place to have a gamble.

The Degale fight really seems the best for both fighters in late summer now. Unification etc.

Absolutely no reason this doesn't happen.

    WBSS

    3 weights this time around

First weight announced is Bantamweight (118lbs)
    WBA champ - Burnett
    IBF champ - Rodriguez
    WBO champ - Tete

all confirmed...WBC title is vacant so all champs are in.

This is when the tournament is class, same as the cruiserweights this year.

Said before, the Super Middleweights caught the British attention as there were 4 Brits of the 8 fighters involved but only 1 of the 4 world champion entered. Took a bit of gloss off.

A heavyweight version would be class:

    1. AJ
    2.Fury
    3. Wilder
    4. Povetkin
    5. Whyte
    6. Parker
    7. Pulev
    8. Ortiz

Will never happen mind, too much money floating around there...

This'll be class. I wonder what other weights? I'd like to see lightweight and maybe light heavy
  • think it'll be light welter and light heavy
  • Re: Groves/Smith final

Waiting on medical reports to make sure Groves is fit and well for the final
Final was originally set for June, then changed to July. WBSS happy to delay as much as possible to get the final we all want to see but ultimately it needs to be done before the new season starts in September. That's with or without Groves.
Eubank is in the frame to step in but he isn't the only one being discussed.

We should have confirmation/a decision on Groves in 10 days or so.

I don't think DeGale should go anywhere near George Groves, he's all wrong for him and even if I forget the fact that Groves absolutely deals with southpaws on form alone if I was DeGale I'd not want any part of Groves
  • July 7th is the date I have been told the final will happen

I agree but degale is at the cash out stage.

I completely agree, he has hardly sold a good ticket in his entire career, he's got a horrible style to watch and comes across terribly. However he luckily has a gold ticket nemesis in Groves who sells tickets by the bucketload and is exciting. Throw into that some interest building mutual dislike and you have a stadium filling pension fund.

    Groves would stop him comfortably

    Any idea of location NLA?

I watch the AJ and Vlad one year on programme last night, AJ came across as a great fella, still admits he's got a lot to learn, and Vlad is a great character, really interesting fella, very humble and impeccable manners. I didn't know too much about him before that programme, but what I saw was very impressive. Top blokes both of them.

    Where was this on mate?

As we were wandering through The Aria on Friday Danny Jacobs and his missus walked past. I didn't see him but my Danny did and stopped to shake his hand. They had a long chat and my boy explained what an inspiration Jacobs had been in his own fight with cancer in the way Jacobs had won the same fight. They hugged and I held back the tears, just.

Mr Jacobs you a a top, top boxer but an even mightier man.

Wow mate that is the best ever Boxer meets fan story i have ever heard, i am buying your Danny a beer

    It was emotional, D.

Afterwards my Danny was beaming ear to ear and said to me "Dad, I somehow always knew I would meet him one day". They say never meet your heroes - but this one didn't disappoint.

He comes across a humble fella on tv and I am glad that was the case that your Danny found

Just watched it. Thought it was really good
  • It is a big deal in a boxing sense make no bones about it will definitely take the hearts and matchroom to a different stratosphere in terms of profile earnings and stable , I am sure if there was a monopoly commission for boxing it would’ve fallen at the first hurdle

As a boxing fan the more fights the better , will see a lot of our own home grown fighters getting some decent fights in USA which will benefit them

But and here’s the crux it doesn’t benefit anyone more than nice guy Eddie and this is another example of the sport that comes from the most basic and humble of backgrounds being taken and manipulated by the biggest player in the game for the sake of ££££££ s

Was ever thus - it was Barratt and Levine in the UK when I first started going to boxing in the 70s, then Warren challenged them and saw them off only to then monopolise it himself, and now Hearn. Another will rise to take Hearn's place and so it will continue. The same for the US where it was King and Arum. None of them ever took a punch in the ring! At least De La Hoya in the US knows what it's like to be hit.

Money men have always controlled boxing and that won't change.

Hearn (Eddie) boxed at amateur level. Gave it up as he acknowledged that being a rich kid he wasn't tough enough to live with his opponents.

Maybe not, but Don King did once murder someone!

Most US boxing money men prior to Don King probably had that on their CV as well!
