  • Was at York Hall tonight supporting one of Nolly's mates Dan Azeez. Put in a very solid performance against a tough opponent and got a good win. Going places hopefully.

Great venue and always a good show there.

Think it was on box nation.
  • Pulev Vs Fury in doubt breaches of contract Mick Hennessy going mental out there apparently

Pulev looked a bit wired to me at the face off

Impossible to truly compare and the best way is to try to objectively look at opponents they fought.

Without doubt, Tyson at 21/22 was a scary, scary man but (and not his fault) the quality of his opponents up to that point is questionable. For me, he doesn't make top 10 of all time. It's all opinions of course but Tyson at 21 (at his best) would not in my opinion have beaten for example Foreman, Lewis, Holmes or Frazier at their best.

Ali was beating Liston when he was 22!

    Tyson on Ali:

“In this situation, every head must bow, every tongue must confess, this man is the greatest of all time,”

“I’ve seen him in the ring with killers. Foreman, Frazier – killers who hit much harder than I and he takes these guys greatest punches and that’s what made him such a champion.

“Watching Ali gave me this confidence and deep down inner belief.

“He used to make every prediction come true. He would take his character and use it to reflect against his opponents – and he made them believe that he was invincible."

"From a boxing perspective, Ali is a fucking animal. He looks more like a model than a fighter. What he is is a Tyrannosaurus Rex with a pretty face. He’s just mean and evil. He’ll take you to deep water and drown you. He’s very special. Best in the world.

    "Nobody beats Ali."
  • I actually think that it is hard for younger posters to fully appreciate the greatness of Ali - which is a real shame.

Ali at the peak of his powers beats Tyson any day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

He took on two absolute monsters in Liston and Foreman - both who had better wins on their records than Tyson, and beat them both.

Tyson was fearsome for a while, but over a longer period against better quality opponents, his record is less impressive.
  • But would he have made it into th B Mob?
  • The Tyson debate will always roll on and the saddest thing is he ruined it

No one can ever say they saw the best Iron Mike

If you take the 15yr old boy who was steamrolling the best around at that age and up to 18yr old USA Olympic team fighters

Or the 19 yr old beast that feared no one

The 21 yr old angry animal of a fighter who was fearless and carried insane power combined with an uncomfortable and uncontrollable aggression

But that wasn’t the best Tyson we never got to see him , the years that he would’ve progressed in the ring and the yrs that he should have created a pathway to greatness he lost through poor mgmt poor decisions and breaking the law

The Tyson we got after the jail sentence was a man fuelled by anger and hatred never a great combo for a boxer

The calm man beats the angry man and he experienced that against Holyfield and Lewis

    Not top 3 imo

He could have been one of the all time greats, but never quite got there, and the only person to blame for that is Mike Tyson.

Can't disagree with any of that, D.

I would add though that if we didn't get the chance to see the best of Tyson then the same could be said of Ali. We never saw him in the ring from when he was 25 to when he was nearly 29. The best we saw of him was in 66 and 67 and although his fights against Frazier and Foreman secured his legacy, it is his fights against Cleveland Williams (nobody wanted to fight Williams), Ernie Terrell (which showed just how down right nasty Ali could be - 'what's my name??") and Zora Folley showed a glimpse of just how great he was and how even greater he would have been in his prime years.

The Ali of 66/67 is the greatest heavyweight in history and apart from the two Sugar Rays I would say the best pound for pound boxer in history - and I accept that's an improbable claim for a heavyweight.

Sorry to bore on about it but I couldn't begin to describe my feelings for the man. He alone cemented my love of boxing at the age of 7 and I simply love Ali and will forever cherish his memory and give thanks that I was of an age to see him and to therefore know that he was indeed the greatest.
  • Bowe is someone else who could have been an all time great, but threw it away

  • Ali is such a difficult one as I only ever got to see the show reels and even then the quality of footage although great for the time is terrible in comparison to today’s footage

But it’s there to see, the finesse the shot choices and the durability , his footwork was still the most graceful for any heavyweight I have seen ever

I think the adage you can’t hit what you can’t catch would mean that Ali would have humiliated Tyson

Tyson’s movement and shot selection were novice level in comparison

Ali vs Lewis would be the deciding fight and I don’t know how that would unfold

Trev was the star of the night.
  • This Chamberlain Watkins fight could be decent
  • I'm forever surprised that fighters Like Fury are allowed such a thick beard when fighting .. a nice cushion for the chin
  • Eyes gone
  • The camera work in this Fury fight is fucking awful!
  • I'm really happy for Ted Cheeseman boxed really well and deserves some recognition now
  • Fury fight looks like 2 amateurs having a tear up.... poor
  • Not a great fight is it?

  • No complaints there. Puts Pulev back on the map
  • He can fight Dylain Whyte in his 17th title shot eliminator.
  • Didn't enjoy that one single but. Nearly as bad as his fight v Parker.

Just caught up with last nights boxing, great for Cheesman really like the cut of his jib, all pressure, didn't let up all fight.
Fury should pack it in, awful boxer, footwork non existent, timing was so far out I think he'd already put his clock back. And how slow is he, terrible, I fear he could get hurt by a better class, more heavy handed fighter.

Danny Jacobs fights on Saturday for the vacant IBF Middleweight title and I so hope he wins and then gets a deserved shot at unification against Canelo after not getting the rematch against Golovkin.

Come on Miracle Man - for many reasons my favourite boxer, probably my favourite sportsman, on the planet.

Jacobs boxed beautifully against a very impressive (no surprise based on his stellar amateur record) Derevyanchenko and is at last back to being a world champion.

Well done, Danny - now for Canelo in Vegas next May which will force me kicking and screaming into making another trip!
  • Whyte v Chisora rematch confirmed for 22nd December @ O2
Same night as Frampton v Warrington
2 PPVs on the same night.

Even if it's as good as their last fight (a belter by anyone's standards) they aren't box office. Whyte isn't a fan favourite, and chisora, whilst proven as a tough nut, has far exceeded his ability

Piss poor from Hearn to put that on at the same time

  • Why? Someone explain to me the strategy of putting a PPV show on the night of a more appealing PPV?
