When do they start getting shipped out?

  • They'll be shipped out within minutes of Roly receiving any offer he deems acceptable for any of them.
Chiefly any player of any effing use at all will be gone, probably 'on loan' by the day before the transfer window closes.
The shit ones will be "loaned out" for now and later quietly given away for the (as per Michael Morrison) ''undisclosed fee''.
If they turn out to be useful we can add this summer's new recruits to January's exit queue as well. Roly's fuckwittery will continue to ascend greater and greater heights until literally nobody credible will risk working with/for him.

    Keep smilin'

Cousins might be 'only' 22 - but I don't think that changes anything. Most of the top English midfielders aren't much older than that, and there is less and less appetite for PL clubs to buy English these days.

Plus I'd also argue that Cousins' ability (as in lack of good first touch) is something that isn't going to improve with time. That sort of thing you either have or you don't.

Completely disagree. To use the old cliche, you can't teach pace, or natural athleticism, but you can absolutely work on your first touch and your passing. I highlighted the work Gareth Barry did at Man City in his late 20s, improving his touch, vision, and positioning as an example for what JJ should be looking to do. Jordan still has a lot of time.
I'd agree that there would have been a bit of room for him to improve his touch if he was still a teenager. Cousins now has over 100 games in his belt and has been a professional for about 4-5 years.

Gareth Barry is someone who was a Premier League level player at the age of 22, and had been for about 3 or 4 years at that point. Cousins just isn't of the same quality.

I'd argue that Cousins was actually better when he first came into the team three years ago than he is now. Not sure why that is, but he looked an absolute masterclass in his first few games.

I all the time Jordan has been a first team player the club has been a mega bollox of a shambles.

I would have loved to have seen JC break through under the guidance of Curbs. Think he might well have pushed on quite a lot.
  • Let's assume a miracle happens and we get promoted. (Could happen if Squirrel face keeps her nose out of everything and Roland, desperate to get his dosh back, does likewise).

If - sorry, when - we sell all our better players and somehow manage to go back up, this time we would arrive back in the Championship with a team that would need completely rebuilding once again. (Remember that under CP, the team that went up included players like Hamer, Solly, Wiggins, Morrison, Stephens, Jackson, Kermorgant - all players who were easily Championship class).

How many of the lot we are going to be left with could you say that about?

And given that the Championship gets stronger every year, and the clubs coming down are getting bigger and bigger parachute payments, our prospects of doing anything other than struggling to stay up is remote.

OK, I know there is the little matter of getting promoted first before we start worrying about whether our players are Championship quality but players like Cousins are not going to be easily (or cheaply) replaced if we do get back to the Championship.

No idea. I agreed with the players sam3110 said would leave in this window.
At least JBG is on his way back soon. I heard that Charlton said they want to get some out before bringing more in.

But if they leave it too late, like they did a few seasons ago, there will only be Marvin Sordell and Simon Church available to bring in.

  • Everyone appears to have forgotten Bergdych - easily done however.
  • I can't imagine anything will happen quickly with JBG, he'll be with us until the end of July.

He would have been concentrating on the Euros these last few weeks, the team spirit they have, I can't imagine he would have been on the phone to his agent every 5 minutes. No doubt the Iceland players will now all go home for a massive celebration as well, so that will take a few more days.

JBG will be enjoying his moment at the Euros - but you can bet his agent will be busy.

The agent will know he'll get the best contract for his client right now.
And be paid the best commission.

I think Curbs would've helped Cousins become a better version of what he is now, ie an engine, covering the midfield, breaking up play. I'm very confident that Cousins doesn't have the touch, vision or finesse to his game, so regardless of who was managing him, they wouldn't get much more out of him on that side of his game.

For me you either have it or you don't, I don't think he has.
  • Cousins came through the Academy primarily as a defender and was very highly rated.
The England youth set up thought so too - and at various age levels, gave him a total of 37 caps.

Evidently, Chris Powell saw that Cousins' great engine could be used to good advantage in midfield for the 1st team, at the time.
And he's been a fixture in midfield ever since.

Cousins achieves a prodigious amount of work covering, tracking and pushing forward, is frequently at full stretch and yes, his touch sometimes lets him down under pressure.
He probably tries to physically do too much during a match and the finer points of his game his game suffers accordingly.

You can often see that he's a defender at heart - and as others have observed, he really needs to make that rightback position his own.
If he moves to another club, it wouldn't surprise me if he's eventually played at right back.

  • Glad the football valuers are out in force. What are you lot basing any of these numbers on?

Exactly the as what you are basing your opinion.

    That makes literally no sense

A very good point, he was capped as high as U-17s as a RB. Think he also played in central defense. At the Toulan Tournament a couple years back he was deployed as a right winger.

I think you saw in the England-Iceland game how tactical staticness can have an adverse effect on a team. Because of Cousins' athleticism he's been played across midfield and as a RB as a professional. It CAN be a good thing, Bastian Schwienstieger (I spelled that wrong) played all across midfield when he was coming through, but that was due to technique, not physical ability. It's easy in the short term to make such changes based on physical ability, but it can adversely effect a player in the long run.
  • It would be interesting to see him at right back, as has been stated above that is his original position.

However it's hard to shake the memories of him playing left wing for so long a couple of years back. Defensively he might be OK, but for all his athleticism I don't know if he would have the touch and technique to be a dangerous full back going forward.

Either way, he's more than good enough for League One. I have the feeling he probably wants to move away though.

    Henderson
    Pope
    Bauer
    Texteira
    Kashi
    Cousins
    Gudmundsson
    Lookman
    Watt

Squad looks very solid at mo, and all players listed above I think we'd be delighted to stay the season with us and build a side around.

Don't think any of us have any expectations that they will all be here though.

    So who goes, and when?

One down with Cousins gone and Gudmundsson supposedly not far behind out the door.

    Who's next to leave?
  • We need the "It's Happening" gif
  • I can't see Hendo wanting to play second fiddle to Pope... Especially under this regimé.
