But clubs can do so much more in preparing their academy players for life after football - whether that be at 16 if they don't make it or after a successful career at say 35.MuttleyCAFC said:A lot of youngsters don't realise that you haven't made it until you have made it. The closer you get, the harder you have to work. Until you do make it, you need a plan B. But having that has to come from inside the player, clubs can only do so much.
They don't because it costs money in ensuring their scholars have a rounded education both in academic terms and also in dealing with life.
The FA and FL also have a responsibility to make it happen.0 -
SUBSTITUTION: Ashton for Floyd Hasslebaink
This changes the formation of the team from a fraeyesque 3-3-4 to a more workable 4-3-3. It gives us far better balance along the back and importantly replaces a juvenile delinquent with a proper adult criminal. It does still leave a huge gap down the right hand side but anyone venturing too far down there is going to get seriously threatened by Omazusi.

Never realised that Patrick Kluivert was done for Manslaughter?
Although is quite bad when Luke McCormack (Plymouth Goalkeeper) doesnt get included0 -
It is true, but so many boys and young players don't think it applies to them when they are told about so many not making it. I have seen many boys who have played with my son over the years who are not interested in anything else, and neither are their parents! I don't think you can teach people who don't want to learn!bobmunro said:

From a football point of view,
How can a guy who is considered good enough to play 20 matches for England from U16 to U19 have such a poor record even in lower League ?
From a bank (bookies) robbers point of View.
Make sure that your get away driver hasn't registered the car in his own Name!0 -
Yes I was there and thought he looked decent.ForeverAddickted said:Didnt he play for us in the League Cup against Carlisle (Back when we were a Premier League team)
There'll be a thread on here somewhere.
Found it! And no I didn't know I started it until just now! What's frightening is that it was nearly 10 years ago.

To be fair our academy does try and give young players a more rounded education, and the vast majority of the hundreds of released players over the last 10 years or so have NOT ended up in a life of crimebobmunro said:

I'm sure McCormack would fit well in there, but there's a lot of drink driving in that all-star bad boys team. I felt that we needed to pick some other sort of crim to broaden the experience of the team. As for Higuita, he's a kidnapper, how on earth could he be left out.ForeverAddickted said:Never realised that Patrick Kluivert was done for Manslaughter?

Is Lionel Messi not good enough to get in that team?2

A fair number of inaccuracies in one sentence! Apart from anything else, he only made one appearance for Fulham!

All that's wrong with the criminal system.
He was given 15 (FIFTEEN) years in 2015 for armed robbery....... so how comes he was out in 2022 to rape someone.
We need to build a load more prisons so that prisoners are not released early. 15 years should mean 15 years.29 -

And he thought he'd celebrate his good behaviour by raping someone?
Should have the 8 years he didn't serve tacked on and no chance of an early release this time around, see how he likes 24 years in the clink as a known rapist11 -

Might as well make a 15 year stretch 7 years.
And perhaps his 2nd 15 year stretch should mean 15 as obviously "good behaviour" is foriegn to him.2 -
I hope that people that serve a prison sentence can come out a better person and not reoffend.
