Withdrawing support and boycotting trade from Saudia Arabia would be a good start.

Put a dome over the Middle East and leave them too it... they're ungovernable and will never be controlled, just need to stop them causing shit outside of those areas!!

Why on earth are you talking about "controlling" the Middle East? If the roles were reversed, would you be happy if Iranian/Saudi governments controlled the West?

We can start by stop pretending that "we are better than them".
Whoosh!!... As if a dome or putting Katrien Meire in charge of ISIS is actually meant as truth.

Yes people died, its terrible but terrorism works by scaring people and to those that do this we need to show we're not scared!!

What time is Obama's prerecorded message to "condemn" the attack on today?? I don't feel safe without it.

Can't even stop people shooting school kids in their own back yard.

I feel this issue may be beyond US resolution....

Whether it is planning and coordinating these attacks or simply inspiring lone wolf attacks the internet and smart phone technology provide huge assistance in helping to facilitate these attacks. And yet the people who run the companies that dominate these technologies still insist on the right to data privacy for its customers. Microsoft won another major case against the US government yesterday on data privacy for criminals. After a recent attack in the US Apple refused to cooperate with the FBI to help unlock an iPhone belonging to one of the terrorists. The free world can no longer afford the luxury of data privacy. The intelligence communities must be given unfettered access to every IP address, phone number, internet conversation, text conversation, phone conversation, cloud data storage account, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Telegram is the current go-to app for ISIS communications, whilst off-the-shelf encryption utilities (i.e TrueCrypt) and anonymisation tools (i.e TOR) provide any nutter with a few brain cells quite a formidable level of personal security. I agree it's a terrifying prospect and something needs to change.

The problem is crippling these tools is a complete non-starter. The way most forms of encryption work means that it's very near impossible to backdoor, and most often the algorithms in use come from US Government led research for their own internal purposes. If you could strip back the encryption from most internet communications you would remove a vital layer of security for everything from online banking to buying your groceries. Not to mention, crippling encryption tools then leaves businesses at risk of substantial data breaches.

Similarly, tools like TOR were actually developed by the US Government to protect their own intelligence online ironically. The idea behind releasing it was to undermine the censorship in places like North Korea and China.

Fortunately this stuff is pretty tricky, so the chances of the developers getting things right is slim - and the chances of your average jihadi not leaving a chink in his armour is even slimmer.

Whatever we have to do to defeat terrorism and ISIS, I feel fairly safe in saying that for the next 50 years, we won't be doing it. The war on drugs has been failing for much longer and we're still piling up the bodies and imprisoning the masses. We as a human race are just not that smart. We will carry on bombing, they will carry on attacking.

They won't solve either issue as he hasn't the spine to identify the communities causing them.

It can't be defeated until mankind grows out of the need to believe in the nonsense that is religion.

Needs to start with people being able to think for themselves and not having to follow some crackpot every five minutes!!

Hah, you've actually reminded me of another idea.

    Mercilessly taking the piss

Show them up to be the hypocritical cowards that they are. Remove the glamour and glitz that they put in all their recruiting material, and make it clear that they're a bunch of bitter misfits who couldn't hack "the real world" so turned to religion as an excuse to commit horrific acts against defenceless people.

Get some perverted dirt on them? Share it. Got embarrassing stories about them, even childhood ones will do? Share them. Absolutely destroy their image.

    For example:

    - In Raqqa during the early bombing raids, whilst the militants ran and hid - the women would go to their balconies to enjoy the fresh air and breeze without their burkhas?

    - It's estimated that out of the hard drives seized and examined from ISIS related investigations, approximately 80% of the content is pornography?

    - One of the UK's leading hate preachers - was found in the Ashley Madison hack? Looking for some pretty interesting things if I recall correctly..

Every few months, Europe gets to experience what it's like every day in Baghdad, i.e. tragic and horrifying. And while it's nominally the same organisation causing misery in both places, imagine knowing for near-certain that this organisation will strike again today. Then imagine reading an English football forum where someone suggests starving (or nuking) your entire region in order to kill the terrorists!

ISIS can only be defeated by offering disaffected, impoverished, vulnerable people an alternative. Killing begets killing. You can take out as many ISIS operatives as you want and there'll be just as many as there ever were. In Britain, we're still just about offering these people alternatives (but for how long, with the most right-wing Cabinet in living memory?) - the only hope beyond this is smart and quick-reacting police work, solidarity with victims of all stripes and the end of the Western rightward lurch. Because it's not just the Muslims gearing up for a clash of civilisations.

When I was in my first year of Secondary School I was really bullied yet just put up with it and try to ignore it... Over the summer my sarcastic / cheeky nature somehow developed and going back to school the next year I used it and it worked, the bullies learnt respect for me because they knew I couldn't be cowed and in the end if anyone else tried to bully me then one of them would step in

It can't be defeated until mankind grows out of the need to believe in the nonsense that is religion.

People do believe in religion and live perfectly peaceful lives without harming others. What may be utter nonsense to you, actually means a great deal to billions of people across this planet, and would try to use their religion as a vehicle for peace.

I understand that religion has the power to incite and be used in the wrong way when being taught by those that try to interpret it for their own benefit, but that is an utterly nonsense post

Politics has the same power as religion. It is wrong to blame it - it is the people that use it to further their own ends and warped ideals.

Not one mention of the type of terrorist or potential motive behind it..

We can't defeat something if we don't give it a full-and-proper examination.

all it takes to crush it militarily is the will, the cash, the technology and the manpower .. but as to the ISIS state of mind, now that is quasi religious and will be impossible to 'stop or control'

I've an idea... Why dont we send ISIS the complete box sets of Geordie Shore / TOWIE / Made in Chelsea / Love Island.

They'll realise that we're f*****g up Western Civilisation without their help and they might save some money
  • Options
To crush it militarily you have to deprive it of it's money and let the Syrians and Russians sort them out. You need to then focus all your efforts at fighting radicalism at home.

Trouble is its who controls the oil fields... We've all proven that we cant live without it anymore so we have to pay Saudi Arabia to get our fair share (Else EVERYTHING will just ground to a halt here)... the Saudis are then able to pay whoever they want including bank rolling ISIS - Its always going to be just one vicious cycle

    It's a fairy tale.

No other concept that has caused so much harm and is patently rubbish and is perpetuated only because it's a hangover from more unlightened times would be tolerated without the ridicule it deserves. It's held back mankinds freedom to think for millennia. I'm glad to say that eventually man will wake up and consign this controlling claptrap to the dustbin of history.

It might be a fairytale to you but as I said in my last post, billions of others may see it differently.

I'm a very big fan of science, a lot of what I read is based around theoretical and astro physics and how and where the universe came from. I completely understand where you are coming from with respect to how religion has held back free thought for a number of years.

However to simply state that if we do away with believing in religion then all this shit that is happening in the world will somehow disappear with it, was wide of the mark for me. Also unfair to those that choose to believe in it without using it as a vehicle for personal gain
