I know Henry is joking but we do have a relatively small U21 squad and want to utilise them in the first team which could mean this happens more. Mbick did it in pre season too. Obviously none of that is down to investment though, more faith in the U18s

I wondered why Enslin didn't get the start last night, and it's because he got over an hour at lunchtime
A bit weird to play an hour for the U21s at lunchtime, then also play a part in a first team game later that day.
Not that uncommon, I believe M'bick also done the same when we played Dartford in preseason.

One of the academy teams played a friendly v Palace at their training ground yesterday. Maybe u18’s.
I wondered why the club coach was parked in Kent cricket ground in Beckenham 🤔

Kent CCC use the coach for away games. They are playing Warwickshire today.

Academy teams use the minibuses provided by Valley Gold.

Kind of suggests that we treat the League Cup about as seriously as a pre-season friendly. Which probably isn't too far from the truth this season with the priority being to get established in mid-table.

Kai's first team debut was after hr played for the under 21s earlier in the day.

Wasn't his debut, he featured last season

I have a vague recollection of this happening for his debut too though. In my mind the club hadn’t realised Edun was suspended and Enslin was a last minute replacement

He played a full game in the EFL trophy last season, I sat Infront of his parents for the match and his mum was the most excitable person in the ground every time he touched the ball, it was lovely to see

Just checked the fixtures and definitely got the playing for the U21s bit wrong

Enslin has to be one we’re potentially loaning out if the right opportunity becomes available. He turns 20 in a few months and for me last season he showed he’s progressed beyond u21 level, he needs to be tested in senior football.

Surely somewhere like Bromley would be perfect for him. Play a back 5 and with 10s so could play there or WB

That’s part of it, but also the club has need a LWB, and be willing to take a chance on a young player in his first loan.

Being left footed and versatile can only help him, got to be better getting senior game time even if it’s at LW or CM over another season of u21 football.

Sure, but no-one ever talks about someone's first game of the season as their "debut", a debut is always a player's first game at a club, or a youngster's first game for the senior team.

In recent seasons clubs have been permitted to play up to three over-age players plus one over-age keeper in u21 league matches. (Not sure if that applied to cups as well).

Does anyone know if that still applies?

    Bump!

A massive difference between pre season games and a competitive fixture though.

Having 9 subs makes such doubling up easier. Presumably if we needed to sub Fullah earlier on, someone else would have come on.

I don't get your point? He didn't play for the under 21s on the same day as his debut? He played 90 minutes on his debut against Bromley in the Football League Trophy group game. The under 21s played on the Sunday before and the Thursday afterwards but not on the Tuesday?

Apologies. Failing memory about the dates.

Looks like we've signed a player from Arsenal as well, probably been mentioned already though 👀

Thought it might've been, but missed it.
The ex Arsenal player is supposed to be decent.

Decent finish that. Was worried he’d be another Jacob Roddy but looks to actually have something about him. Must be very odd being coached by your dad

    Fleetwood away at 12pm.

Fleetwood did occasionally stream u21 and u18 games on YouTube, but they haven’t since January. They also have a first team game tonight, so I doubt there will be a stream but worth checking nearer kick off.

The club had updated the Academy premises at Sparrows Lane and added to the number of coaches.

Why would they close down something that has produced numerous first team players?
Because it costs two million pounds
    a year to run.
    Pretty good value then.
Certainly for Chelsea, Everton, Newcastle, etc.

Here’s how our U21s line-up for today's clash against Fleetwood Town: MacLorg; Hobden, Laqeretabua, Ewens-Findlay, Enslin; Gough (c), Mwamba, R.Reid; Rylah, Mbick, Lock Subs: Woodham, Hunter, Brown, Safa, Casey

Seems like Lock might have userped Casey in the pecking order for now, feels like the latter could do with a NL loan
