Solid first half but sitting back, especially at home against weak opposition is poor

Asked 6-7 people around me at half time whether at 1-0 up at home and playing the team at the very bottom of the league whether we would win and they all said NO. So this win is very much beyond expectations and great for everyone's confidence not least Slade. Magennis towers over everyone today as the man of the match for his sheer fight and endeavour and not little skill. Holmes and Lookman still remain regular creators but maybe Lookman should player more central in the forwards rather than on the wing. The game reflected the protest and whilst I have opposed protest inside the ground because there is still all to play for I also threw a pig and stood up and what have you and now even at this early stage of the season remain converted to the idea that protest inside the ground is an effective way of getting a wider audience viz. the FA. It is really only the FA who can influence these custodians in a powerful way for the sake of the club. There should be further pressure to bear especially in the light of Coventry's experience of which I knew little before this game but there are obvious others too. So yes it was good to get three points, good to see players (except Novak) play well or better and good to see a common experience shared between two sets of supporters.

Let's be real about it, if we was playing any other team in that league today we would have lost! 3-0 flattered us and Coventry deserved something from the game. Slade went to sit on a 1-0 lead at home again when he made the change putting Magennis up top on his own. If it wasn't for Magennis and Hanlon chasing lost causes then it would be a very negative 1-0 victory at home. The football and tactics by a predominantly English team and English manager are very depressing.

Sat behind pig coach today. Thought he did well.

Cracklin result against one of the worst teams we have played in my many years. Magennis was superb. Need to improve because this was nowhere near good enough. Why he didn't take Novak off earlier is beyond me.

Watch you back Chris - the next step will be a loan to a Romanian club.

Only went to protest so the win was a bonus. I thought we were better than Coventry but they are woeful, certain for the drop.

Thought that's harsh, they played some lovey stuff at time just lack of football experience cost them

Haha brilliant Chris... Only good thing about Solly and Jackson leaving (If they were to go) would be finally seeing them speaking out about this period

Seen so many league one games like today. One team knocks it about with some style, but then makes costly defensive errors and end up getting beat 3-0.

Against better opposition the score might well have been different, but nice to see a win. And fair play to Slade for the formation change towards the end. I was going to slag him off, but then 2 goals go in.

Thought their number 8 was skilful, even though he was involved in losing the ball for the first goal.

Wonder when Nicky Ajose pissed in Slade's soup to be left out in favour of Hanlan though?

(To be fair though it was setup better for Hanlan to come on)

Third Division fare - lots of kick and rush - but glad we won. When we went into decline under Peeters and Luzon we wouldn't have won a game like this. So: it's possible that the more dire predictions of where we end the season might not occur.

Having said that we were up against a weak and fairly young Coventry City team.

Our best players IMO were Rudd, Bauer, Holmes (absolutely tireless and a real find), Ulvestad and Magennis.

As for Lookman? Took a series of meaningless to poor to dreadful corners, ballooned a free kick over the bar and missed a sitter. Not good enough at set pieces and needs to be taken off them quickly as he is wasting chances for us by taking them. Best to keep him in open play. On his performance today he wouldn't be of interest to any serious Premiership side and would be a squad player at best in the Championship.

Team morale must have picked up a bit today - so onwards and upwards. Hopefully.........

Sadly though he's got three goals already this season which is what top teams will care about, i.e. a young 18-year old scoring goals in League One and for England

Thats future gold dust for them... they wont care about his positioning and set piece taking!!

The promotion of the Palarse vs Wet Spam game on the screen was yet another demonstration of how the regime just do not get it. Katrien, we don't eat at that restaurant.

Even more reason to push people to the protests!

Glad for the 3 points.... Scoreline flattered us

3 points but not getting carried away. Coventry are dead last in this league for a reason. Was dismayed that Slade went to 5 in midfield with 20 minutes to go. Someone needs to stop Lookman's taking corners and free kicks too

Looking at our upcoming fixtures, Port Vale on Tuesday (beaten 4-0 today) and then Gills and Chesterfield, both winless in 4. If this is the turning point, real statement to be made if we get 7/9 points. I'm not getting carried away yet, they're are bottom remember, but from listening to Coventry radio it sounded like we were better than we have been and created more. Also looking at the table, we've conceded the third least amount of goals? Just need to find our shooting boots. 442 with conventional wingers, who'd have thought it? Protests seem good as well. Excellent all round.

Listen to yourself! We are 15th because we are pretty poor. Two points from the next two will be good going.

First half was a bit of a chore with Coventry creating the best move of the half which saw their effort hit the post. And typically when a team is near the bottom the opposition go up the other end and score with Ulvestad chipping the back four for Holmes to control and turn the ball past the keeper. Second half we seemed to sit back and Holmes once again gets in a great position to put a cross in for Novak but sent it straight to the keeper. As the game wore on the usual feelings of an equaliser would have kicked in were it not for some but for some poor finishing from Coventry and steady defending from us including an amazing double stop from Rudd.
Cometh the hour, cometh the Mag late on as we scored a second with Magennis working hard to put the Coventry defender under pressure and then win the ball to run in to the area and set up Lookman with a perfectly timed pass to score. A third was missed when the exact same move that lead to the second was put over by Lookman. Slade brought on Hanlan who had a hand in the third setting up Ulvestad to put in a delightful cross field pass for Mag to control and weave round the defender and chip the keeper. We looked steady for most of the game and if you could merge Holmes trickery and skill with Magennis strength and eye for a pass you would have an absolute beast of a player. Feeling a bit more optimistic after this but as previous wins seem to be spread out quite thinly these days I am not going to start putting out the promotion bunting just yet.

As for the protests they were superb apart from the folks that decide to throw their pigs on one by one after the game restarted.

Absolutely spot on about RS going to 5 in midfield and Lookman taking corners. Can't someone sit on him when we get a corner so someone else can take it?.
