I have been worried about him since the post match interview last season where he was almost in tears saying he didn't know what to do. He admitted he had run out of ideas. Not the best thing for a manager to admit!
Which game was that he was nearly in tears?
Run out of ideas ? He's only got one idea.
Yet the football was the best in years early in the season..........
And then teams countered that style of play and we haven't changed because Karl doesn't seem to have it in him.
They have been shocking every time I have been this season.
Unfortunately, we were worse than that yesterday.
I think the players know his one and only system doesn't work for them and never will and are possibly sick to the back teeth of having listen to the rubbish he comes out with.
They are not "playing for him" at the moment either.
It's all a total mess.
It’s also all speculation. Might be some truth in it, who knows. There may also be splits in the players camp. I don’t see them as a united bunch anyway.
At least when KR goes we'll be spared his moronic post match interviews when he talks fluent bollocks. Our most irritating manager since 'Super' Alan Pardew.
Not a fan of Pardew but at least he tried to change things when it wasn't working.

Hysteria.
Ffs this club has collapsed and gone back ten years.

Shame so many missing the point here. Until a new regime takes over and the (or 'a') manager has a chance to actually buy the right players and build a proper team/squad, sacking endless managers is absolutely pointless.
So boring. He did build his squad, he spent the whole sodding summer chasing his man from MK Dons rather than fill positions we were actually weak in. The frailties in this squad are down to KR as well as RD.
We all know that this club is going nowhere under Roland, but you're an idiot (not you specifically JS) if you think that we wouldn't be getting more out of this squad with a different manager.

I agree with both comments to an extent. He'd argue that he hasn't got the players capable of switching seamlessly between systems, and he may have a point, but I've always felt we should set up differently when facing the more physical sides, especially those with giant strikers. And against sides with giant centre halves, drop Magennis and play an Ajose type up front, and play balls over the top, or to feet. 4231 has worked well against less physical sides, when the likes of Mavididi have been available. Weaknesses in the squad has led to it being exposed I think.

That's just personal, and doesn't mean anything to me. Different strokes for different folks.

But we might also get less. Changing the manager every five minutes has become a thing at Charlton, and I don't like it.
I'll shut up now because I'm clearly struggling against the tide. Lol

I agreed with this until the last few games but the performances and his refusal to adapt have pushed me too far.
I don't think the players are playing for him anymore. He certainly isn't getting the best out of them and he isn't adapting to our problems or other teams strengths.
He has to go. A change even if it is an internal appointment could give the players and fans a temporary boost and enough to give is the odd result to cheer about.

Give up James. Robinson is clueless and we will never achieve success under his management. I agree with you that changing manager's every season is not the way to go but even with a better owner than Roland we will not be successful under Robinson
The 36-year old arrives at The Valley on a two-and-a-half-year deal
Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm the appointment of Karl Robinson as the club’s new Manager.
The highly-rated 36-year-old, who led Milton Keynes Dons to automatic promotion to the Sky Bet Championship 18 months ago, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at The Valley. Robinson will take full control of the club from Monday.
Robinson said: “I am honoured to have been appointed Manager of Charlton and can’t wait to get started.
“Joining such a huge club with a large, passionate fanbase is a really exciting proposition.
“I’ve inherited a talented squad and I’ll be doing everything I can to get the club back into the Championship as soon as possible.
“I like my teams to play attractive football and if we all pull together, I firmly believe we can start moving up the table and enjoy a successful season.”
Charlton CEO Katrien Meire said: “Following a thorough appointment process, Karl emerged as the outstanding candidate. He is a very talented, forward-thinking Manager and I’m delighted we have been able to bring him to Charlton.
“Our main focus is bringing Championship football back to The Valley at the earliest opportunity. Karl has vast experience of League One and, having won promotion just two seasons ago, we believe he has the necessary credentials and is best equipped to lead the club forward.
“Throughout his time with MK Dons, Karl received tremendous acclaim throughout the game for the attractive football his teams played and his approach to developing young players. This is an exciting appointment for us."
Prior to commencing his role with MK Dons in 2010, Robinson coached at Liverpool’s Academy before taking on a role with Blackburn Rovers’ first team.
During more than six years at Stadium MK, he led the team to successive fifth-place finishes, before securing second place and promotion to the Championship for the first time in the club’s history in 2014/15.
Earlier that season, Robinson masterminded arguably MK Dons’ most famous victory – a 4-0 League Cup rout of Manchester United.
Robinson will watch his new side train for the first time at the club's Sparrows Lane training ground today. Details of his first press conference as Manager will be announced in due course.

If only he hadn't believed Roland's bullshit, he wouldn't be here now.

Sorry but I think you are missing the point. With the players we have we should be doing much, much better and the fact we are not is down to Robinson. He has not got a clue.
You give robbo till the end of the season. I have never liked his tactics and never will, even got into a couple of arguments at a couple of games over it. And id still maintain this even if he somehow managed to take us up. But to me even if i dont like a manager i think they should get 1 full season in charge.

Disagree. They're not that good. Another manager might do better though.

I agree with you as you cannot keep sacking managers, you need some sort of stability. Robinson however has had three transfer windows to bring in his own players.
I do think that he is a dead man walking and if there was a dramatic turnaround and we got promoted with him, should there be a new board for next season in the championship he'd still be out of the door.
I imagine that you possibly have a soft spot for Robinson as you have found somebody that talks more s*** than you!

You have players at all levels that demand almost too much from their teammates - we need a few of these. Being a Charlton player looks too cosy to me! What is Robinson going to do about that? He is lucky in that the takeover situation buys him time he wouldn't have had. Now it has to be no more Mr nice guy and get these prima donnas playing for the shirts and their teammates - starting from Tuesday. He hasn't shown any signs of being able to do this - look at the Bradford game - we were so much better than them for 25 minutes or so it was embaressing, so the leaders in the team started fouling and making the game messy - the characters which are winners that we don't have and a team that looked two leagues less able than us nearly won the game in the end. I use that as an example - they are not a great side, but how we are missing this basic quality an average league one side like them possess!

Given what he said yesterday all he thinks we're missing is a 20+ goals a season striker.
Yes, we are missing that, but as we haven't got it, we have to at least have some fight! We are a team of bottlers. They should be hurting, they are probably peed off people are criticising them - they should be criticising each other and demanding more.

Disagree. They're not that good. Another manager might do better though.
Oh I agree the players are not that good, I didn’t say otherwise, BUT they are better than they are performing at the moment and we should be doing much better in this league but we are not and that is down to Robinson’s style of play and tactics.
Unfortunately I don't think he'll see it being down to that @MuttleyCAFC (edit: the lack of fight/team of bottlers). Instead of getting the best from what he has he's set on making his ideal system work. If he gets the budget he needs and from that gets the squad he wants then maybe it'll come together like it did in his promotion season with MK Dons.
In some ways I admire that he tries to play attacking passing football, it's a step up from Slade at least. However for me it makes it even harder to succeed at this level. He built the squad around the system. If things aren't working he tends to use a like for like swap, which relies on the sub doing the same job but better. Putting on two strikers or switching to a completely different formation seems to be more of a last resort.
Even if he gets us up I feel it would be an even bigger weakness in the Championship. Although he's young for a manager he's been one for nearly 8 years and managed 400 odd games. I'm not sure there are many examples of managers drastically changing how they work. Peeters and Luzon did the same, it got so ridiculous at one point that Luzon tried to fit 3 left backs into a 4-4-2.
Managers like Curbs, Powell and Parkinson looked to get the most out of what they had. Results were the priority over attractive football. Robinson's very different in that he will almost always look to play his favoured system. If it doesn't work from then his point of view (and those fans that rate him) it's because he needs better players. To him/them it's nothing to do with the system or his choices as the players are the ones missing chances and making mistakes. Yet if you play a different system the game will turn out differently and perhaps you'll create different types of chances. A bigger focus on defending may stop so many being conceded.
The way I see it Robinson's system needs so much to come together to make it successful. Had things not clicked for the 11/12 team I'm sure Powell would have dropped the 4-4-2 and tried to find a way that got results. In fact that's what he had to do in the Championship. It allowed us to compete with a squad that included a few players who you'd have expected to struggle at that level.
Perhaps if we were a stable Championship club finishing comfortably in mid table every season I could be more patient and let him build a team over time. While we're in League 1 I feel it's more important to get promotion however we do it, rather than keep trying until a certain style brings success.
I don't want us to keep sacking managers, something RD was rightly criticised for. However I don't have confidence that Robinson will take us and then longer term his management see us progress in the Championship. We need stability but we also need the right manager. I won't be disappointed if he's replaced in the near future.
I think there are characters at all levels - winners - players who hate losing. Yes, the system needs changing, but we lack something else. How do teams we are on top off claw their way back against us - we are fragile.
I don't like sacking managers, I don't think anyone likes sacking managers.
Despite that, Robinson is taking us nowhere and he has to go. It's clear that the way he sets his teams up is not going to take us anywhere, whether he can buy some decent players or not.
