That's not even music to my ears. Are you able to explain how that rates so highly for you? Not being facetious, I'm really interested to know the appeal of something like that.

It's music, Jim, but not as we know it
  • (The appeal is that I really like extreme metal, I really like avant-garde rock and I really like maximalist clusterf**ks that sound like trashy horrible noise to 99% of music fans. Throw in the brilliant attention to detail, the stunning songwriting and the unprecedented cutting-edge sonic grandeur of it all and you have yourself a feast for nutcases like moi. It really isn't quite like anything else, and I've listened to it over 50 times now, always discovering something new)
  • Be interested to know the average age of posters on this thread.

I've haven't heard of hardly any of these bands but then I am an old git.

I'm now seeking out Quilt and Heron Oblivion, because I agree the others were good, and I enjoyed seeing them live this year. Saw the Fannies on Wed. at the Quay Sessions in Glasgow, but sound was pretty awful.

My favourite this year was Nos da comrade by Peter Bruntnell. Looking forward to seeing him on Friday at Shacklewell Arms.

    Well, What can I say?

Spirit Phone is one of the most of fun and enjoyable albums of this year, every song is just so catchy! I've not seen one mainstream review of it though, which is a shame as it really deserved the exposure. Charlton Aesthetic has made a great choice.

And Tribe is just Tribe, absolute quality jazz, rap and hip-hop fusion. And the lyrics man, THE LYRICS! So poignant and even more relevant than ever after the year we've had and Phife's passing.

Also my list might be added to, there are a few albums others have posted that I'm meaning to get around to listening to and 2016 still isn't over.

@sillav nitram I'm 20 if that helps. However I would also say that quite a few people my age would not know some of my album picks either.

Heron Oblivion is Meg Bairds new band - always been a fan of hers since her days with Espers. Kind of dark acid/psych/folk - pretty much my cup of tea. Quilt are much poppier.

Also like Peter Bruntnell - didnt realize he had a new LP out....
