Come on, own up - at least half of these "acts" are names made up by people just to make themselves sound clever and with it, aren't they?
If not, I'm much more out of touch than I thought as have only heard of about two or three.
That said, I'm still perfectly happy sticking Now That's What I Call Music 3 in my cassette deck.2 -
Vaults - Caught in still life. If you like Florence and the machine its in a similar vain, perhaps a little more chilled.0

A Tribe Called Quest - We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service
Standout of the year for me by a mile, glad to see it mentioned4 -

I probably shouldn't try to be involved in this thread. I hardly understand a word of it.
But I will just say I have been a Bowie fan for decades and I think Blackstar is cack ..................and it hurts me to say that in the circumstances.0 -
Blackstar - listened to it on the day of release and loved it. When I listened to it two days later the lyrics took on a completely new meaning, love it even more.3

I know the feeling. Where's all the Jive Bunny and Taylor Swift fans these days?Off_it said:Come on, own up - at least half of these "acts" are names made up by people just to make themselves sound clever and with it, aren't they?

Heard a lot of people really love Tribe's new album (including many on here). Haven't listened to them in ages but will check it out.
I've really enjoyed Frightened Rabbit's Painting of a Panic Attack. There are some weaker tracks, but there are some absolutely beautiful, brilliant ones as well.
I'm caught in two minds on 22, a million, although I've only given it 2-3 listens.
Olafur Arnalds' Island Songs is a beautiful tribute to Iceland.
The Wilderness by Explosions in the Sky. Maybe their best work since The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place.
Mogwai's "Atomic," a soundtrack, is beautiful. I think they either have a new record out now or coming out.
Daughter's Not to Disappear. I think it's better than their first record (which was critically acclaimed). Beautiful and haunting.
Lastly, probably my favorite record of the year was Minor Victories' s/t debut. Rachel Goswell's voice is excellent, and the track "Scattered Ashes," a duet with James Graham from The Twilight Sad is incredible.

Moonsorrow - Jumalten Aika0

Hmm, hesitate to comment as I think I've only got one new album this year, on vinyl too, which was The Wolfhounds "Untied Kingdom". Very good it is too, thoughtful angry indie with some lo-fi interludes from east London's suburbs by men who have recently turned 50. (Perhaps I'm their target demographic).0

I still can't work out if I'm slightly disappointed by Dissociation or not. All the reviews talk about how it's their final album and the effecct that will have, and I think I got a bit swept up in that feeling too, but I'm realising I haven't gone back to it anywhere near as much as I have with their other albums. It feels a bit more like a 'this is everything we have been' album rather than another boundary pusher.Leuth said:Anyway, here's my top 60 as it stands, in order
