I'll keep it brief, but Pete was one of my oldest and best mates, who I met at Chis and Sid in the 1970s. He and I were part of a group that drank together, went to Charlton together and never lost touch as we settled down and had kids. His whole working life was spent with BT, latterly at Bexleyheath.
He leafleted for the Valley Party in 1990 and might be known to some Lifers as the guy who sold VOTV by the chip shop with Steve Perfect until last summer, when he had major surgery to try to deal with cancer.
It was a terrible blow but he was absolutely brilliant dealing with it and appeared to have got through it, even hoping to be well enough to come to the Sheffield United game, only to go down with a chest infection that kept him away. It's only in the last few days it was discovered that the cancer had spread.
All his mates are absolutely gutted for him (many of them are Charlton supporters), but most of all for Hayley and his two grown-up boys Alex and Connor, who he was intensely proud of. They've all been fantastic through his illness and it's heartbreaking that it has ended like this and so suddenly.

Sorry for your loss Rick, I remember both you guys from school and know you were close. Regards and sympathy, Howard.
I knew Pete from school and of course Saturday afternoons. I shall not forget your good nature, Pete - nor the anagram you made of my name in an edition of Voice of the Valley. A true gent and thoroughly decent chap.
Words can not describe how much a lovely man he was from a true friend and a colleague from BT . He will be sorely missed from all of us god bless you Pete and the family
A top bloke & a great mate. Love to Hayley Alex, Connor and the rest of the family. Drunk with Pete many times, great times down the Robin Hood & other legendary Bexleyheath jollies - he was Charlton to the core and will always be part of me through memories, God Bless
God bless Pete, I'm sure our paths crossed back in the day, never really knew you but from sentiments on here I wish I had got to know you better.....RIP Sir....my condolences to Pete's family and friends

Regards and sympathy, Howard.
Others, especially @Airman Brown have painted a picture of a true Addick who loved both his club and his family with all his heart.
Sleep tight, Pete.

One of those faces you just know from going Charlton over the years
