Who is the dirtiest team you have ever seen at The Valley and who is the dirtiest player?

Agree re Coventry. Apart from the GBH on Tees, think Rodney Green was stretchered off and didn't play for us again. Didn't Dietmar Bruck play for them that day?
Think Kevin Muscat would have fitted in well with the Coventry side. Still remember the tackle that virtually ended Matty Holmes' career.
We've had a few players skilled in the dark arts, but none could rival Curtis or Muscat.0 -
Ape-man Curtis should have gone to jail.
Horrible team, especially Bobby Gould - sly, niggly, totally unsportsmanlike. Jimmy Hill responsible.

Dietmar Bruck there's a name from the past.Isawsummersplay said:Agree re Coventry. Apart from the GBH on Tees, think Rodney Green was stretchered off and didn't play for us again. Didn't Dietmar Bruck play for them that day?
Remember watching him play for us a few times0 -
Agreed but I didn't think they were dirty against us. They didn't need to be.....we normally just shat our whack and let them win.Addick Addict said:
The Wimbledon team that would have played us in 1988 would have hardly been short of a few who could put it about - John Fashanu, Dennis Wise, Vinnie Jones, Eric Young, Andy Thorn, Brian Gayle etc etcSimonsen said:Notts County in 1984-85 Milk Cup. Kicked fuck out of Charlton, with a number of repeat offenders (John Fashanu was one of them).
I can't think of a team performance in the modern era that I'd consider dirty. Niggly yes, a bit of dirty play, yes but full on dirt, no.
The thought of playing against that lot leaves me cold.0 -

From the first minute to the last it was all niggling, all whining nonsense and the ref fell for it all. We ended up drawing after a late equaliser from them and it was the most pissed off I was all season. I think in the reverse fixture there were three reds as well

Ashby of Hull and Muscatt.0

MK under Ince... Absolute filthy team0

Hull at Selhurst Park including Billy Whitehurst.
Leeds in the play offs but they may the same about us!0 -
In recent times Timar of Plymouth and Dominic Blizzard of Bristol Rovers come to mind1
-
Blizzard away on Basey, dirtiest fecker.
Dirtiest team, seem to remember 2 of ours getting injured early on against someone in our first season in League 1 last time around? Said team spent remaining game kicking lumps out our team0 -

Dirtiest player for me is probably Muscat, although Miller and Roberts at Spurs were a bit of a pair.
In our 2nd Division days, Billy Gilbert at Palace was fairly dirty and any number of Birmingham City players were up for it in a dirty/snidey way....Robert Hopkins, Mick Harford, Martin Kuhl, Mark Dennis, Howard Gayle,0 -
I remember George Curtis and his tackle on Matt Tees.
Was travelling around Australia in 2011, when a footballer was banned for a season ending eight week ban which effectively finished his career due to a horrendous tackle during a local derby. The banned footballer - Kevin Muscat!!!0 -
The Coventry game is one of those distant games that I will always remember as I was astonished that a team could play as dirty as that Coventry team and be allowed to do so!Isawsummersplay said:Agree re Coventry. I also remember Matt Tees getting very rough treatment but especially the tackle on Rodney Green who I though at the time was going to be a very good player for Charlton (I believe he came with Tees from Grimsby together). I don't remember him playing for us again but it was a nasty injury. I expect this injury badly affected his football career like many others have before and since.
Unfortunately these 'tactics' were successful for Coventry who went on to be promoted aided by the usual incompetent referees.0 -
Blimey, Rodney Green - that's a name I'd forgotten. Did we sign him and Tees as a BOGOF from Grimsby?SoundAsa£ said:
I think Rodney Green was carried off after a tackle from behind by Lewis.Big in Brasov said:
He continued as far as I recallSoundAsa£ said:Pure luck really that Matt Tees wasn't very seriously and possibly permanently injured......I'm not sure if he carried on or not?

Keith Stroud dirtiest ever ref....0

Another vote for Coventry.
Lets not forget that Port Vale team starring Brian Horton too, they were dirty bastards.0 -
Palace dished out some rough stuff against Lee Bowyer at The Valley in '96 (0-0). Think he finished the game with stud marks on his chest.
Before he became a professional bore, Alan Shearer had a successful career stamping on opponents, elbowing opponents and chucking himself on the floor before diving achieved widespread popularity.
If "dirty" incorporates general cheating then Fernando Forestieri is a dirty masters of the highest order.5 -
I used to listen to the European games on the radio during that era as a boy after I'd gone to bed. I can recall the match commentators saying at the time that they had never seen such a disgraceful performance from a team.thai malaysia addick said:
The most unpleasant, cheating team I saw was Barcelona when they played at Spurs in the UEFA Cup at White Hart Lane. Diving, feigning injury and spitting in the faces of the Spurs' players.0 -
The Italian team we played in I think it was Steve Browns testimonial
Also a Norwich player who was quite fancied but never really kicked on. Remember him I think doing one of our players really badly by the corner flag about 10-15 years ago? Anyone remember that ?1 -
Millwall Reserves roughed up our Reserves, I recall. We ended up with 10 though as Big Jim Ryan laid out Pat Brady with a right hook. Shocking game.
I wish I could remember the first team game when I was about 5. Out of character and to my disbelief, my Dad made a snowball from snow on the terraces and hit a dirty defender in the face with the snowball after he chopped Brian Kinsey.0 -

Derby County 95/96 at The Valley. Lee Carsley did a number on Bowyer a couple of times and got away with it.0

Billy Whitehurst and Frankie Bunn took us to the cleaners at Selhurst Park. Pender & Thompson couldn't handle them at all that day.bolloxbolder said:Hull's Billy Whitehouse

Yep that stands out for me to.Think it was the first time we played the Scum back at the Valley after the time we had been at Shithurst Park.VDH should have been sent offAshers said:Saw the title of the thread and immediately thought back to spanner van den hauer knocking Sean Newton out in first minute or so at The Valley. Correct, Hollands straight red and Waggy two yellows, the second one harsh dished out by that twat Trevor Kettle. Fighting performance that day with our 9 to their 10 and who else but SuperYann scoring with his nut second half to take all three points.Leuth said:

Good bloke too.
When Pat started teaching us he wore a syrup, however we ripped the piss out of him in a 'who are you trying to kid?' kind of way and he stopped wearing it.
I think they were called 'Crown Toppers' at the time.
He was a great bloke though, and I passed A-level Economics somehow.0
