One of the Brady bunch used to play for Catford Wanderers in the SAL over at Southend Pond Beckenham.
  • I have always disliked with a passion tony Craig from millwank.

Alex Rae, Van der Hauwe and Rhino Stevens right up there with Craig.
  • Can still picture Shearers elbows going into big Herman's face every time they jumped up for a header.
  • 1 of my first charlton matches was against a chris kamara managed Bradford city. I think it was the 97/98 season although I'm not certain.

I just remember that Kamara had clearly sent his team out to kick lumps out of the opposition. Dirty fuckers!

Millwall Reserves roughed up our Reserves, I recall. We ended up with 10 though as Big Jim Ryan laid out Pat Brady with a right hook. Shocking game.

I wish I could remember the first team game when I was about 5. Out of character and to my disbelief, my Dad made a snowball from snow on the terraces and hit a dirty defender in the face with the snowball after he chopped Brian Kinsey.

Pat Brady was my A-level economics teacher.
    Good bloke too.
Didn't he have a brother that played for Millwall as well?
Yes, twins Pat and Ray Brady they also played for QPR I believe. Older twin brothers of the great Liam Brady.
When Pat started teaching us he wore a syrup, however we ripped the piss out of him in a 'who are you trying to kid?' kind of way and he stopped wearing it.
I think they were called 'Crown Toppers' at the time.
He was a great bloke though, and I passed A-level Economics somehow.
It may have been Ray Brady that Jim Ryan floored. I'm not 100% sure. In that team was Harry Obeney who I played against once and who dished the most crunching (but fair) tackle I've ever faced.
  • The Italian team we played in I think it was Steve Browns testimonial

Also a Norwich player who was quite fancied but never really kicked on. Remember him I think doing one of our players really badly by the corner flag about 10-15 years ago? Anyone remember that ?

Chievo Remember Kins getting stuck in back. One of there players I believe spat at disabled supporters after getting sent off.
  • Portsmouth U-18's against our U-18's, about 4 years ago. They had 3 players red-carded, could have been 6 or 7.
    Worst fouls against Charlton players-
    Tom Finney
    Kevin Muscat
    Dominic Blizzard

Oh don't get me started about the time he elbowed Fortune in the throat, we'll be here all week.

To clarify for younger members. The Irish Tom Finney who ruined Graham Tutt's career, not the legendary England international .

  • Ian Baird Leeds and Portsmouth., Shearer, Hurlock on Jermaine Darlington, Van den Hauwe, Muscat, Noel Blake
  • Hull's Billy Whitehouse

Don't know about Billy Whitehouse (he's a winger who plays for Doncaster I believe) but I do know a Billy Whitehurst who was renowned as a hard man.

I think that makes us 1-1 now Bollox ;-)

Anyway, Whitehurst has to be up near the top having heard some of the stories about him over the years though Duncan Ferguson would probably give him a run for his money!

  • For me it was Coventry City February 18th 1967......we lost 1-2. They got promoted to the old 1st Division that season.
It's not surprising that the dirtiest player I have personally seen with my own eyes played for Coventry that day......none other than George (The Beast) Curtis.....my god what a filthy bastard he was, how he stayed on the pitch was an f'ing travesty. He was their centre half and Captain, the only player I have ever seen that had legs as big as Paul Went, possibly bigger in fact! He was crude beyond words that day.
He was ably supported by a sly little blond haired fucker by the name of Brian Lewis wearing the number 7 shirt.
l was 19 at the time and I can honestly say it was the nearest I have ever come to running on the pitch and chining someone. Had I have done so,I feel sure others would have joined me.
Does anyone have a match report from that weeks Mercury, Kentish Independant or any of the Sunday's from February 19th 1967......bit of a long shot I know but it would make interesting reading.
Curtis and Lewis were by far the worst offenders but the entire team were culpable.
Dirty bastards to the point of disbelief.

Yep, make this right. The season they went up. George Curtis was without doubt the dirtiest player who ever played football. Did John Keirs score ours?
  • Whoever that big blonde centre back for MK was that started on Yann. Absolute oaf.

  • In the Coventry game Cliff Myers scored for us near the end.
  • I would have to say Accra Hearts of Oak we beat them 6 or 7 one I think in a preseason friendly there players were like charging rhinos and their fans came in to take our covered end,I felt I was Michael Cain in Zulu that day ......Only kidding but does anybody remember this game? Their fans were the most polite and friendliest I have ever met.

This was the only time I saw the great Chris Powell lose his temper - someone stamped on one of ours whilst they were on the ground and Powell came charging in ready to start swinging.

Very weird game for a pre-season friendly that usually struggle to get out of third gear.

In off the post as I recall.

Saw the title of the thread and immediately thought back to spanner van den hauer knocking Sean Newton out in first minute or so at The Valley. Ref didn't see, bastard got away with it.

I was going to mention this. It was so blatant that he took a look and then timed his elbow aimed into Sean's face.
Unbelievably it was reviewed later and decided that there was nothing to answer.
