"My conclusion? Video playback for the 4th official needed. Of course. How many more times before they get it?"
And the ensuing debate after this statement shows why we should leave things exactly as they are my dear chum... Greenie is the 4th official, Lincs is the bloke at the FA who then bans Greenie for 3 matches and re-instates the ref.
As said, if the insinuation is the ref's bent, life ban. If not as PG says, the official gets "rested" (without any fuss) for the next game.
a clearly blatant dive. No reason for his bodyweight to shift enough for him to begin falling down. The defender does wave a leg, but its well after simulation has taken place.

But dont have the ensuing debate with blind old duffers........! Its a dive and anyone who thinks different should be put up against a wall and shot as should the cheating player...there you go sorted!

Err... I have not even watched the clip. I was using the situation as an example of why TV replays make jack all difference when it comes down to a matter of opinion. if it upsets you, you sensitive little flower, I'll edit it to reverse the scenario...

They have now got round to realising that, and he faces a disciplinary hearing. I am not sure the hapless ref got such a hearing. It was all very knee -jerk, as this was a big game.
I mean, I'm all for diving, so long as players are retroactively punished for it. Obviously benefit of doubt to the fouled player, but there's no doubt here.
Went to watch the Prague derby once years ago. Massive hype but ended up being an awful 0-0. Saw Slavia a few times at the huge Strahov complex. What's their 'new' Eden ground like? When I was there they were building it and I worked in an office close to it. Always had a soft spot for Slavia - didn't they form originally as a debating club?
Eden is a nice if functional stadium. Good accoustics ( I saw The Boss there). RD would like it, there is a hotel in one part of it (but no pitchside rooms, they don't have RD's vision.). I believe you are right about Slavia's origins. When i arrived they were the club of the dissidents while Sparta was the club of the Party bigwigs. However the purchase by the Chinese has badly tarnished that image. It is a huge Chinese business which is clearly an arm of the State and they are using the Czech Republic as a staging post for their EU expansion. They will bribe anyone (I just had lunch with a buddy who just resigned as marketing director of the brewery they bought, and they were his words). The Sparta fans call Eden "The Kung-Pao Arena" and that's why we took chopsticks. But the average Slavia fan doesn't care too much as they put £10m into the wage bill and for the first time in years might be champions. Although they looked on Sunday like a team that is "choking" at the thought. Viktoria sacked their coach at the weekend too (this is the team that are top of the table, if you please), so it's all boiling up for a febrile finish. Probably the most interesting season for a while although its a pity Sparta are so far behind the other two.
Of course its a dive.......theres a few on here who need to visit specsavers........!
including you if you really think he wasn't fouled .. look again at the position and movement of the defender's leg ((:>)
No mate, I assume you are on a wind up, or your blinder than Ray Charles in a tunnel........!
not a wind up on my part mate .. look at the defender straight after he TRIPPED the attacker, hands up in a it wasn't a foul gesture ... LOOKLOOKLOOK .. he stuck out his back leg after the attacker had fooled him as to where he was going, he TRIPPED him, the attacker could not avoid falling over his leg which was extended AFTER the defender had been beaten .. BLATANT penalty.. IF you really believe that the attacker dived then it's either you who's on a wind up or you're blinder than Stevie Wonder wearing a blindfold AND blinkers

What happens first? Contact or simulation?
The attacker is already going down theatrically BEFORE the defender even begins to move his leg. Dive.

I'm surprised refs are taken in by such theatrics anymore, it happens all the time, surely refs are desensitised to it all by now?
Reminds me of the Merseyside derby at the weekend, half the time an Everton player went near a Liverpool player, the red shirt would roll around screaming like he had been shot with high calibre rifle whilst simultaneously being injected with cobra venom, regardless of whether there was any contact. One made me laugh where there was minor contact, but the red shirt was rolling around holding the wrong leg to the one that was lightly tapped.

well, at worst/best depending on your point of view, the attacker made a meal of it as he was entitled to do given that the defender had put out a leg in an attempt to trip him .. IF the defender had not stuck out a leg, THEN, it would have been a dive .. noticeably, the away team hardly raised a murmur in protest, especially the 'guilty' defender .. what it really brings home is the point already made, how difficult is the job of a referee .. even with video replay, it's not clear cut and is really a matter of gut feeling and interpretation .. after several looks my impression is that it IS a penalty, at best, the defender ATTEMPTED to trip him (I still maintain that he actually DID trip him) and that decides it for me .. and (cliché time) if it had occurred in a game we were involved in I would be unhappy if it was NOT given in our favour, and t'other side of the coin. I would not be too unhappy if it had been given AGAINST US

1) I think the defender was sticking his leg out impulsively to get the ball, not the attacker.
2) The attacker does not change his direction at all, he kicked the ball in one direction and carried on running in the same direction of the defender's position.
3) The attacker deliberately begins to fall over well before any contact is made.
The attacker put on a good enough show to fool a referee in the heat of the moment but at the end of the day, the only mistake the defender made was sticking his leg out, and even then it made no difference as the attacker collides with the defender at torso height, not at the leg.
Finally, a dive is a dive. If you intentionally fall over before contact is made, even if you know that if you carried on you would be fouled, it is diving and cheating. Either get fouled and win the free kick, or move out of the way. The attacker essentially stopped his involvement with the possession of the ball as soon as he kicked it away and had zero intention of carrying on his attack once he saw that raised leg and decided for himself that he deserved a penalty.

The attacking player was looking for the pen and fell over the trailing leg. There was contact, though if I was the ref I don't think I'd have given it yet who knows how I'd have reacted in the heat of the moment with thousands of screaming fans in a big derby game. Refs are only human.

Bribery is a horrible western thing.
Bit off topic but do you know anything about CEFC, Stu? Or @JessieAddick ? Something like No 243 in Fortune 500, I am told, not bad for a company that's only a few years old and whose two top guys have no previous business experience (or so my buddy told me, and he is not one to make these things up)

I've never heard of this company but it seems a very big company according to what I just found on the internet.

Hi Jessie, indeed, unfeasibly big given the time of its existence.
The general joke going round here is that it is better known as "People's Communist Party of China (EU division) plc", but that wouldn't look good in the Forbes 500 list...

Keeps better refs moving up and bad ones moving down.
