Notwithstanding Bowyer's claim he can win promotion with a small squad, seemingly built around a mid-thirties midfielder, we are looking down the barrell of at least two more years in L1. Cost of an extra year approx £12m. Do the maths Andrew and get your chequebook out sharpish. If you had closed b4 Jan window shut we could be in 2nd tier now.

I am interested in taking over the club, I have not pulled out, it is just that I can't meet Roland's high and unrealistic and unreasonable asking price.

Buy more Euromillions ticket please Seth.
You might end up the last man standing.

That assumes price is the only cause of the delay. All the talk of problems caused during the Slater and Jimenez years suggests not.

It’s my birthday tomorrow... fingers crossed!!!!

Nope. Don’t know the song or the band.
  • Will be the 11th my birthday, we make the world cup final and the clubs sold.
  • So sorry to hear your news Fanny, and yes you are right, there are many more things more important than football. My thoughts are with Jack, Geoff & their family's.

These rumours that emerge from time to time that "the Aussies have withdrawn", and that "theres a rival British consortium" - where do they originate?

We know that the Aussies have spent more than a year and a sizeable chunk of money in pursuing their purchase of the club. We also know that they are ready to drip feed positive and reassuring "news" about the takeover on here and to local media - so it's pretty easy to discount the possibility that they are briefing against themselves.

Duchatelet gives not a single toss about us fans. Never has. He isn't given to communicating with or to us unless we provoke him into one of his infamous rants. And what does he stand to gain from leaking false negative "news" about the takeover failing, anyway? We know he is desperate to sell and the sooner the better, as its costing him big time to stick around. I don't buy the theory that he is trying to flush out a rival bidder. The Aussies are his best option, or they wouldn't currently be in pole position. It might be taking longer than anyone wanted, but starting again with a new bidder would mean re-setting the clock entirely.

So, who would like the Aussie deal to fall through. Would like to foster concern between the seller and prospective buyer? Would like to ensure a place at the Board table, which looks extremely unlikely within an Aussie administration? Has talked about a second bidder, that no-one else seems to know about and that doesn't seem capable of mounting a serious challenge to the Aussies?

Join the dots. Looks like a last, desperate roll of the dice to keep in the game.

    Nonsense.

Not at all. Assuming the funding myth has been put to bed, £12m against a purchase price of £40m is not a huge outlay. It seems small beer in a £150m five year plan which will become six. What could possibly be worth that delay? From RDs standpoint he won't get to up the asking price a mil for every month he keeps us.

You make an interesting point though. In all these things you ask, who would gain from doing something like this? Unless some fan has a warped sense of irresponsibility, you'd think the list of candidates would be pretty short, right? Fingers crossed for a quick conclusion to this thread of threads and a timely clean sweep of all that went before.

  • Wasn't sure of where to post this, but it does at least demonstrate the seriousness to which the Aussies take their sport.

  • How can anything positive still be happening now? What else is there to do? If it's down to the Aussies searching for new, last minute, investors to get involved, why weren't they involved in the first place? Or are they second rate people who are purely going to be the for the few quid they've got and not the people they are?

If the new owners run a football club like they put a "consortium" together, it's gonna all be a bit shoddy IMO and frying pan and fire springs to mind every time I think about it

The only way we're getting out of this league next season is via relegation.

Basket case of a club, in every way.
