How can anything positive still be happening now? What else is there to do? If it's down to the Aussies searching for new, last minute, investors to get involved, why weren't they involved in the first place? Or are they second rate people who are purely going to be the for the few quid they've got and not the people they are?
If the new owners run a football club like they put a "consortium" together, it's gonna all be a bit shoddy IMO and frying pan and fire springs to mind every time I think about it
On the other you could say they’re patient, have great attention to detail, won’t overpay, it’s a long term plan etc.
I think the truth will be somewhere in between, and how long the takeover takes doesn’t show whether they’ll be good or bad owners.
The time itself doesn't, but some of the reasons for it does
These rumours that emerge from time to time that "the Aussies have withdrawn", and that "theres a rival British consortium" - where do they originate?
We know that the Aussies have spent more than a year and a sizeable chunk of money in pursuing their purchase of the club. We also know that they are ready to drip feed positive and reassuring "news" about the takeover on here and to local media - so it's pretty easy to discount the possibility that they are briefing against themselves.
Duchatelet gives not a single toss about us fans. Never has. He isn't given to communicating with or to us unless we provoke him into one of his infamous rants. And what does he stand to gain from leaking false negative "news" about the takeover failing, anyway? We know he is desperate to sell and the sooner the better, as its costing him big time to stick around. I don't buy the theory that he is trying to flush out a rival bidder. The Aussies are his best option, or they wouldn't currently be in pole position. It might be taking longer than anyone wanted, but starting again with a new bidder would mean re-setting the clock entirely.
So, who would like the Aussie deal to fall through. Would like to foster concern between the seller and prospective buyer? Would like to ensure a place at the Board table, which looks extremely unlikely within an Aussie administration? Has talked about a second bidder, that no-one else seems to know about and that doesn't seem capable of mounting a serious challenge to the Aussies?
Join the dots. Looks like a last, desperate roll of the dice to keep in the game.
Not given up, but all exhausted by the changes of rules when you let people have their anniversary or birthday or graduation date as a second choice. ;-)

Nonsense.
Let's hear your theory then Sherlock.
Isn’t it just a case of nothing been announced for a while, fans jittery, one says to another ‘I bet it has fallen through’, that becomes a rumour.

My take on this Alan is that the only piece of concrete data re the potential Aussie take over is a joint "Statement of Intent" on the OS. We shall have to wait and see whether or not that statement of intent ends in purchase.
Such a purchase, should it occur, is only the start. I shall then delay purchasing a season ticket until the new owners demonstrate that they have embraced a culture that includes fan engagement and an attempt to push us onwards and upwards.
Any other optimism from me evaporated during the last couple of long drawn out months.
@Airman Brown as above, can you please clarify your post mate.
I reckon it's because Tricky Dicky is spreading rumours and he has a large skeleton hiding away in his closet that he doesn't want anyone to know about

I have always been convinced that he is in fact Mick Jagger. The skeleton in the cupboard obviously refers to the selection of specially crafted wigs, he uses on his outings with Keef and the lads...

Who has the most unanswered questions left over their tenure? Who has refused to disclose the reasoning behind the departure of Varney and Kavanagh? Who sold us shareholders down the River? Who sold us to the spivs? Who has lied directly to us since day one of Duchatalet? Who has mysteriously clung onto power throughout this debacle of a regime?
Why has he continued to be Duchatalet's sychopant in chief? What did he do to stop the unlicensed bully boys? Why didn't he put a stop to the charade with the Police over what was nothing more than an 'message board thing' as he likes to call it?
From hero to zero. I'm convinced the biggest skeleton is still waiting to come out of the closet and it will be nothing but bad news for Charlton Athletic.
You two obviously don’t read mysteries. RM is far too obvious.

The only way we're getting out of this league next season is via relegation.

That’s correct. This wasn’t the product of an idle discussion between fans - it was more detailed (when, how) and going around at a more significant level. By my count there have been at least three attempts to put out a story that the Aussies had pulled out in recent weeks, none of which have had any substance. One resulted in the joint statement; the latest, reliable denials from both sides. It does look as if it is being planted.

If both sides are regularly denying it, it suggests it is not being put out by either camp. Who do you think is planting the stories @Airman Brown ?

Still think that is too obvious, the culprit is often someone who hasn't really been part of the plot and seems on first impressions a rather benign character. My moneys on the cardigan wearing museum curator. I believe he was once on the board.

And also then what the bloody point is. If both sides are saying it's untrue, then whoever is saying it has nothing to go on! Therefore, pointless!

What about somebody who is (or would like to be) involved in the seemingly mythical alternative "english" consortium....?

Possibly, but then if it's not true, and so easily denied by both sides (twice) then it's always going to be. I think we've learned enough these last few months that just saying it doesn't make it happen!

Also need to consider whose benefit the rumour is for. Like, what reaction is the person starting the rumour looking for and who from? #conspiracyTheory
Whoever is the culprit, they are doing it for personal gain. He is obviously totally oblivious of, and completely disregarding and disrespecting Charlton supporters.

I think Bowyer is being really naive if he thinks a smaller squad than last year will fair better. I like him, but I think he is kidding himself.
He thinks he's kidding us, however I reckon we won't be kidding anyone with this squad in a couple of months time.
No disrespect to Bowyer, but he ultimately wants to have a job, that given his experience, he would most likely not have the opportunity to do elsewhere.
With that in mind of course he is not going to say anything that will rub the current owner up the wrong way.

Murray in a nut shell, odious old man who has worked against the fans for years now.
Well whoever it is they obviously have the ability to plant the rumour where it reaches both Buyer and seller who take it seriously enough to leak denials. The field of runners and riders cant be that big.
