Duchatelet: 'Use success of the Rode Duivels to reinvent Belgium.
Of all times it is during the World Cup Football, that he downsizes his fooballimperium. Because he rather invests in society problems. Breakfast with De Tijd.
What is a human being? Only an upgraded animal. So people make mistakes. I, like everybody. That is why you have to shield yourself emotionally when people write or say something to hurt you. How? I just wonder what their problem is.
Breakfast with De Tijd

PART2 TO FOLLOW
Conservative
But then there is "the system". As a politician you have to have enough votes. Which you don't get if you say things that insult people. (laughing) That is what I always did. And you are certainly not allowed to say anything innovative, because people in essence are conservative. Take the basic income. You cannot sell it politically, because it would make the people independant of political services rendered and that is the politicians' nightmare. People themselves would only realise how good it is, when it is there. So that is the paradox.
'If you do not innovate in business, you die. If you do not innovate in politics, you survive. That was frustrating sometimes, yes. An example: normally all those youngsters who are in Werchter (place in Belgium, where also 4 day pop festivals are organized. That was going on at the time) today, should have been in Brustem near Sint-Truiden. That deal was done, Herman Schueremans wanted that too, but the then sp.a-mayor (Ludwig Vandenhove, red.) stopped it because he feared I would come out there as a winner. That has been shot down purely for polical reasons. The socialists have got their pawns everywhere, also at De Lijn and at Wegen en Verkeer (equivalent of Highway services). So yes, it is correct that the sossen (socialists) work against many things. But the N-VA unfortunately is not the solution. Because you will get the aged fighter planes, without social security and a divided country. Which is silly. The opportunity that offers the success of the Rode Duivels, should be used now to reinvent Belgium. Make English the official language and let everybody as well use their own language without concern.
There are plenty of ideas, but the politics is history. Question is: would a succesful entrepreneur put all those ideas and energy - and may be his own money - into a NGO (non-government organisation)?
'Most people with great wealth who I know, also have a social side. I support some people who are struggling. But too many people think that a rich guy can replace social security and has time to learn about their problems. That is not so. But there are three projects I am helping forward. One: Wikipedia. Because free spreading of knowledge in the world is extremely important. Two: Transparency International, an organisation that fights corruption. And three: BIEN, that stands for Basic Income European Network.'
We were with five children at home, he then says. My father was an officer with the Military Police and my parents found it important that we would know about it. My brother Alain, who passed away six months ago, became a colonel in the Military Police. One sister taught all her life, one brother went in private and another became military. Especially sense of responsibility were found important by my parents. I am trying to teach that to my six children.
Somebody who is 71, could be thinking of retirement. He doesn't do that. "Stopping is not as easy for an entrepreneur. My added value is, that I understand rather well how the world economy works. Not many people do that, and you cannot just pass that knowledge on.
Somebody who is 71, can also look back. Far even. Were his realizations and his activities, until today, at amongst others Melexis, X-FAB and in the horeca (hotels, restaurants, cafés) around Stayen a dream of his youth? Not at all, he says. I wanted to play and have friends. My only ambition was to be happy. And that is still the case.
The coffee has gone cold.
Thanks very much for your work in translating this @Lewis Coaches I note that you haven't got any likes for this yet. I suspect this is because of the rambling nonsense that our antihero speaks rather than any lack of appreciation of your efforts.
Actually have had Scottish family who are usually happily ABE twats and quick to rejoice in anything negative, saying well done, hope England reach the final, we like the players and the manager, Good young team etc............... I'm not sure how I feel about it though, just doesn't feel right.
Meanwhile, the question remains unanswered of who is running things at our club at this moment in time ?
We know that Bow & JJ are beavering away with the meagre squad they have inherited despite the nonsense playing out behind the scenes ...or rather not playing out.
Who authorised the training camp in Portugal & agreed to fund it ?
How much longer will it be before RD is forced to engage a CEO & FD and more pertinently, fork out for additional players?
Surely the time is nigh for him to take action before the crumbling walls of our football club threaten to implode & he is forced to don his tin hat before exiting the building .

TBF, from distant memory I usually like to see Scottish teams do well though after they’ve self destructed around about 10 minutes into a game I turn the channel over but if they ever do manage to get to a major championship again and progress I too am happy to wish them well...mind you, I suspect I’d be also be lumping some money on them crashing out next game
The one thing that has worried be me throughout all of this with the Aussies are why they are so prepared to meet RD asking price. The club is worth so little and that is declining the more we have RD in charge
My thoughts entirely. As a lifelong Charlton fan there's no way I'd consider paying anything like Duchatelet's inflated price, even if I had Muir's money. The deluded one is keen on bigging himself up: "My added value is, that I understand rather well how the world economy works. Not many people do that, and you cannot just pass that knowledge on", but the bottom line is that he cocked up massively. He bought a club he didn't understand, in a league he didn't understand, in a sport he didn't understand, in a country he didn't understand from some decidedly shady people who did their damnedest to stop anyone understanding. He thought he was too big and clever to get matters checked out properly and when he had control of the club, he staffed it with people who didn't understand their jobs. We then had four years of intransigence as he denied there was a problem. The poor shape of the club and its finances lie fairly and squarely on his shoulders. Whoever buys it will assume responsibility for getting the club back on its feet, but the financial losses are his responsibility in entirety. Sadly, he doesn't seem to recognise this yet so he'll continue to lose money month in, month out. As much as I want him to sell up and get out of our lives as quickly as possible, there's another side to my thinking that says I don't want incoming buyers to do so at any cost. In some ways, I'd rather see the Aussies walk away and demonstrate some financial prudence whist waiting for the freaky old dentist dodger to see sense. They can come back when he's realised the folly of his self-inflicted failings and decided to take on the responsibility for them.
I think the heat is getting to some people. What I say is enjoy the weather, enjoy the World Cup, enjoy time with family and friends, take a break from all things Charlton #TeamWIOTOS
I'm another one who doesn't get the negativity being thrown at the Aussies (who, can I remind everyone, are our only possible saviours from the Belgian nightmare that we continue to endure)….
RD: Okay chaps, I've made a proper mess of this footy business and thrown a ton of cash down the shitter, but I don't want to take responsibility for my actions, my narcissism simply won't allow it. So, I'd like you to reimburse me in full for all my losses, plus I'd also like to you to chuck in a bit more just to puff up my ego a bit so that I can continue to pretend to myself that I haven't failed. Deal?
Team Oz: Erm, OK, if it gets you gone, let's do it.
RD: Oh, and by the way, because I was too tight and stupid to do proper DD, I also screwed up on that and didn't realise there was an additional chunk of debt owed to ex Directors, so I'd like you to pay that off as well. Ok?
Team Oz: Well, you were taking the piss with your price in the first place, but now you want us to bend over as well. Are you insane? Everyone has their limits - your mistake, you pay for it. Keep losing cash and come back to us when you return to your senses.
RD: I can't believe you would hold up the deal like that - why won't you pay? Don't you have the money? If you don't pony up the cash, then I'll just sell to the British consortium that my friend Richard has assured me are waiting in the wings and in the meantime I'll tell everyone that you are skint and that's the reason the deal can't proceed. Richard!
Team Oz: FFS
Why should Team Oz go along with RD's delusion and goalpost shifting? He bought the club for a knockdown price, and because of his fuckwittery, it is now worth a fraction of that. He needs to get his head into the real world and then a deal can happen.
I am fed up with worrying about takeovers, I was fed up with Roly a long time ago, England have reached a semi final for only the third time in lifetime (1990, 1996 and now 2018). enjoy it people.
Give this a rest until either we are triumphant or have been knocked out. NWATUATWC (No Worrying About Takeovers Until After The World Cup)

Just my point of view folks
But that doesn't mean they're gonna be the right people though does it. Remember RD was the answer to the last nightmare for about a week or two.
I think EVERY Charlton fan wants the Rat out, but to me, there's something not right with this lot because of things already explained before
Fair point, Ibborg, none of us have a crystal ball.
As far as I can see, members of Team Oz, such as Muir, appear to have integrity and good judgement based on what they have done in their careers so far - and this is all that we can, and should, judge them on. So, when looking at RD's record with our club, it is unarguable (unless you are a member of one of the other sites, it appears) that RD has been a disaster for our club with a reverse Midas touch. Therefore, it is fair to speculate that he will continue to be one. As such, I want him gone.
But when it comes to RD or an alternative, I will go for the alternative every time.
So, as Blackpool so succinctly puts it: 'Roland, just sell the club and....' you can guess the rest.

Fair point but I have to agree with Ibborg. Just because Roland is such a shit owner doesn’t mean we should just swap him for anybody. Of course even if the replacement is marginally better then it’s progress, but that’s not saying anything because we are nearly at rock bottom.
All well and good wanting Roland out but no real point if the successors are nearly as bad. I would personally prefer to wait and have the right people in then still be in a shit position.

I agree, but you will see I was referring to the posters point that they would always take the alternative over Roland. I don’t share that view personally, just because we need Roland out doesn’t mean we should be happy with anyone.

I agree none of us on here have a crystal ball, and one or two involved with the takeover have no balls
I don’t think we have any say in who owns the club. We can complain, protest or get behind the owners but if Putin, Kim jong-un or Li Keqiang decided they wanted to buy us, they could.

Well a good start would be to give a second look at and ask questions of people who. -
- Don't know / ignore the rules of not owning shares or having interests in more than one football club.
- Get to the point of completion before talking about who is liable for a debt the is equal to nearly 20% of the reported sale price.

Okay, so the hold up is purely down to nasty RD because he's so desperate to sell
