Wonder who paid the £7 million charges?
That's been a smokescreen all along.
When you concider the cost  of buying and running a football club 7 million is fuck all.
It's a figure that the Aussies kept bringing up as an excuse as they never had the money
  • Does anyone know how much they can spend to stay within financial fair play. Can they sell themselves the Valley and training ground like Derby and cheat?
Or sponsor our shirts and stadium as City and PSG are allowed to get away with.

They might have been rolled over because we've heard diddly squat from Bob Whitehand et al.

Good luck to him and it's interesting that Muzza is no longer involved so maybe they have all cashed out 😲. Either way £7m now or on promotion to the Prem is chicken feed to His Excellency.

Wow, is this our new owner? Short interview I found on YT from a year ago. Speaks fluent English! Graduated from Colorado State University, in the US. Calls it "my organization." So it appears the buck stops with him. I like the fact his colors are red and white. :#

Might have signed an NDA? Or until the EFL approval it’s not a done deal?

Not quite sure where to put my thoughts as there are a few threads going now, but can’t quite believe we’re actually at the end of Dutchatelet’s reign.  If I’m honest, I’d even stopped checking in on this thread, such was the sheer absurdity and farce that the ongoing ‘takeover’ had become.

I’ve got nothing to say about RD.  The anger abated a long time ago, helped immeasurably by what Bowyer has built.  It reared it’s head again briefly when we had the nonsense in the summer over Bowyer’s contract, but because of what a good job Gallen had done with recruitment, I had gotten myself into a mindset that we have it as good as it’s going to be, and my faith in Bowyer and his team is such that I felt we could ride out this season and achieve reasonable goals regardless.

Long term I knew that wasn’t a sustainable future, but in today’s modern game, are any club really sustainable long term, whether it be Man City under their ownership of billions, or someone like Accrington Stanley under their ownership of true custodianship with Andy Holt?  The 1 year only deal for Bowyer and his team was disconcerting.  Combined with RD’s sheer arrogance, ineptitude and downright incompetence gave me the feeling of living with a debilitating illness, unable to cure or get rid of it, but on medication to manage it, hoping a cure would come through soon.

Whether or not this is cure will remain to be seen, but as I often argued during more heated times, we were dying a slow death under RD, so I’ll take my chances with something, perhaps anything else, as nothing could be as bad.  I have nothing at this stage to say about the new owners other than to welcome them, thank them for ending the nightmare under RD, and truly, truly hope that they take the time to understand the history of the club, its impact on the community, the fans, the ethos behind what it stands for, and what it can achieve if just ran with care and consideration in the spirit it existed before RD arrived.

I know football has changed since our consistent and steady achievements under Curbishley, and perhaps that era of football is a thing of the past with the money knocking around now, but I look at what has been achieved at Burnley and now Sheff Utd under Wilder, I genuinely think that you do not need to chuck money at it to get comparative success.  Yes, the championship is hard, hard league to break free from, and many clubs have broken the bank to get there and broken the bank to stay there, however, I think what Bowyer has delivered to date on the budget available, and I don’t want to see us spend millions.  An example is when Bielik went to Derby.  Talented player no doubt, really enjoyed having him here, would’ve loved to have him back.  Would I want to see my club spend £10m on him, probably not.  Watching Fulham as I write this, great team with some talented players, but the Championship is tight.  They should and probably will go up, but they might not. If they don’t, how long does their owner accept the combined wages of a squad worth £140m???

All that is for another day, today is a day to celebrate and hope that we going to return to normality.  My final few words are for my love of this club, this fanbase and how happy I am for every single one of us tonight.  Have the last 6 years been tough and divisive?  Yes.  Have we been put in the unenviable position of falling out with fellow fans as a result of the cancer that was RD?  Yes.  Do we have it in us to unite and be the energy that we need to push this club on and continue this tradition of having fought for our very existence?  Absolutely.  I’m massively biased, but everything about this club is special.  From the monumental efforts of those in the Valley Party back in the 80s and 90s, to those who made up CARD, to those who went to Belgium to protest, to those that stayed away and boycotted, to those that kept on going and were at Hull when we got thumped 6-0.  Every single one of us played our part in supporting our club, in our own way, supporting the club we love, taking various different forms.  We are an exceptional fanbase with some of the most passionate, loyal fans you will ever see.  Our history dictates that we are a fanbase of activists, and that our legacy as fans is that we never give up, we will not be beaten and as long as our collective spirit remains, the club will always be here.

Cannot wait to see what unfolds over the next few months.  For me, the first thing I want to see is long term deals for Bowyer, JJ, Gallen and Marshall, try to tie Taylor down and go from there. But as for now, I can’t wait to see all of you who have not been with us for the last few years, coming flooding back in your droves, because every Saturday we follow!!!!!!
Spot on, very well said cabbles

sums up my feelings when someone says calm down today
  • So what is the usual expected timeframe for the EFL to approve?
Usual?  A few days, maybe.  For Charlton?  Guaranteed after the transfer window's closed.

The first thing East Street Investments are looking to do when they take control (the takeover needs EFL approval) is secure Lee Bowyer on an extended contract. And the second thing....is to do the same with Lyle Taylor.

All honesty, given Taylor's age, I might be more interested in that money (and more) going after Toney.
They however might have recognised Taylor's all round contribution on and off the pitch, and concluded that his asset value is measured in more than just goals scored. They may also be hearing from inside the club that Bonne might just be the real deal with the right nurturing. Taylor is the right guy to do that. he has done that for Grant, and for Igor. A young bloke from the lower divisions anxious to justify his price tag won't do that.

Peterborough are bigging up Tomey's value like his some cryptocurrency. You with your finance background ought to spot the danger signals there
Absolutely. The togetherness and spirit is our main asset under Bow and Taylor is a massive part of that group dynamic.

The "Something" Stadium?  No amount of money would be large enough.

The "Something" Valley?  Still don't like it but I could be persuaded by a number followed by a lot of 0s.

The Valley, sponsored by ...?  I think that would be the way to go if some kind of renaming had to be involved.

One look at the bank account is all it takes. When have they done anything else?

If it’s not done by next Friday I expect the EFL to be made to buy us.

  • Brilliant news but remember that we all got excited when RD purchased the club
    To me, a big difference....
We are now (I think) the richest second-tier club on the planet? The owners want a return and know there is only one way to get that, get us into the PL. Sounds like they want to offer our core staff proper contracts. Their announcement showed exactly the right tenor, indicating they have a clear feel of the lay of the land, in terms of club culture and fan fears.
Remember, when RD bought us, our first sense of them was this awful video... :/

Only word of caution Id offer everyone is the fact this is the Championship - Plenty of teams have tried to buy their way out of the League and the only way they've escaped is down
True words. But I think the level headed experience of Gallen, Bowyer and Jackson will stop us becoming a club like that.
