Not quite sure where to put my thoughts as there are a few threads going now, but can’t quite believe we’re actually at the end of Dutchatelet’s reign.  If I’m honest, I’d even stopped checking in on this thread, such was the sheer absurdity and farce that the ongoing ‘takeover’ had become.

I’ve got nothing to say about RD.  The anger abated a long time ago, helped immeasurably by what Bowyer has built.  It reared it’s head again briefly when we had the nonsense in the summer over Bowyer’s contract, but because of what a good job Gallen had done with recruitment, I had gotten myself into a mindset that we have it as good as it’s going to be, and my faith in Bowyer and his team is such that I felt we could ride out this season and achieve reasonable goals regardless.

Long term I knew that wasn’t a sustainable future, but in today’s modern game, are any club really sustainable long term, whether it be Man City under their ownership of billions, or someone like Accrington Stanley under their ownership of true custodianship with Andy Holt?  The 1 year only deal for Bowyer and his team was disconcerting.  Combined with RD’s sheer arrogance, ineptitude and downright incompetence gave me the feeling of living with a debilitating illness, unable to cure or get rid of it, but on medication to manage it, hoping a cure would come through soon.

Whether or not this is cure will remain to be seen, but as I often argued during more heated times, we were dying a slow death under RD, so I’ll take my chances with something, perhaps anything else, as nothing could be as bad.  I have nothing at this stage to say about the new owners other than to welcome them, thank them for ending the nightmare under RD, and truly, truly hope that they take the time to understand the history of the club, its impact on the community, the fans, the ethos behind what it stands for, and what it can achieve if just ran with care and consideration in the spirit it existed before RD arrived.

I know football has changed since our consistent and steady achievements under Curbishley, and perhaps that era of football is a thing of the past with the money knocking around now, but I look at what has been achieved at Burnley and now Sheff Utd under Wilder, I genuinely think that you do not need to chuck money at it to get comparative success.  Yes, the championship is hard, hard league to break free from, and many clubs have broken the bank to get there and broken the bank to stay there, however, I think what Bowyer has delivered to date on the budget available, and I don’t want to see us spend millions.  An example is when Bielik went to Derby.  Talented player no doubt, really enjoyed having him here, would’ve loved to have him back.  Would I want to see my club spend £10m on him, probably not.  Watching Fulham as I write this, great team with some talented players, but the Championship is tight.  They should and probably will go up, but they might not. If they don’t, how long does their owner accept the combined wages of a squad worth £140m???

All that is for another day, today is a day to celebrate and hope that we going to return to normality.  My final few words are for my love of this club, this fanbase and how happy I am for every single one of us tonight.  Have the last 6 years been tough and divisive?  Yes.  Have we been put in the unenviable position of falling out with fellow fans as a result of the cancer that was RD?  Yes.  Do we have it in us to unite and be the energy that we need to push this club on and continue this tradition of having fought for our very existence?  Absolutely.  I’m massively biased, but everything about this club is special.  From the monumental efforts of those in the Valley Party back in the 80s and 90s, to those who made up CARD, to those who went to Belgium to protest, to those that stayed away and boycotted, to those that kept on going and were at Hull when we got thumped 6-0.  Every single one of us played our part in supporting our club, in our own way, supporting the club we love, taking various different forms.  We are an exceptional fanbase with some of the most passionate, loyal fans you will ever see.  Our history dictates that we are a fanbase of activists, and that our legacy as fans is that we never give up, we will not be beaten and as long as our collective spirit remains, the club will always be here.

Cannot wait to see what unfolds over the next few months.  For me, the first thing I want to see is long term deals for Bowyer, JJ, Gallen and Marshall, try to tie Taylor down and go from there. But as for now, I can’t wait to see all of you who have not been with us for the last few years, coming flooding back in your droves, because every Saturday we follow!!!!!!
Good post (I didn’t read it) but you are no grapevine, cuddles.

Wow, is this our new owner? Short interview I found on YT from a year ago. Speaks fluent English! Graduated from Colorado State University, in the US. Calls it "my organization." So it appears the buck stops with him. I like the fact his colors are red and white. :#

Fair play to him, his eyes didn’t wander downwards once ....
    Mine did....checking the fruit

I am so happy for the takeover, I am only now really realziing this means Bowyer won't be leaving at season's end, most likely. I was actually having a hard time getting too excited this season because I could not stand the thought of having a fun season and then losing Lee next summer. Now that it appears Lee will be given a proper contract, it allows me to relax a bit and REALLY enjoy the club more. This takeover will have even more positive effects, and in more ways, than I probably anticipated. :)

Don’t want to be negative but we’ve been bought by ESL, and Sheikh with the very long name is a major shareholder.
that doesn’t mean he’s gonna spend his own 18 billion fortune.
I’d settle for being a stable club that has a competitive budget
I can see us being a premier team again with with their cash, and the rest will be a dream if it happens.

    Nonsense.

In the January window we will be buying the cream of the Championship plus some young Prem players.  In the summer we will be competing with the top 6 budgets in world football.

To suggest anything else is simple self-defeating cynicism.

  • Great news...Hope their football ambition matches their finances. According to many people on here, RD wasn't even going to get £20M for the Club..🤣

From my chats in the cab with Amanda Staveley, she gave me the impression that any purchase of an English football team by the Abu Dhabi ruling families would go through her. In that case just maybe my pleas for her to turn their attention to little old Charlton instead of Newcastle may have struck a chord after all. 😬

Hats off to every single person here, we all deserve it and I hope you enjoy yourself tomorrow, I'm very annoyed I cant make it.

Who knows what our future holds, but i have a sneaky feeling it's going to be a lot better than out last decade!!!!!!

62,062 posts and now slightly beyond

A seat for every post we have now filled the Tottenham Hotspur stadium while waiting for EFL approval.

On to Old Trafford now (74,994) but don't expect us to reach page 2,500 in order to do so.

On a serious note, all being well, and the takeover gets EFL approval, we must never forget the help - and support from other clubs, the Brighton's and Coventry's and Blackpools and others. Whatever our clubs future is now, we must never forget what we have gone through, so we MUST be one of the first to offer our support to other clubs suffering from bad owners, never forget where we came from, be humble to those who will suffer in the future.
    Great call.

For absolute clarity is this super super  super rich man the owner or is his merely very rich right hand man the owner?

So Ferdinand was right all along.
  • My Valley Gold number was pulled out of the hat to do Crossbar Challenge tomorrow. I nominated my 18 year old son to do it, and we went to Sparrows Lane at lunchtime to get some tips from the under 18s. When we arrived Lee and Keith Peacock started chatting to my son and Lee offered to provide him some training - I think its a first for Crossbar Challengers. He spent about half an hour patiently coaching him, which when you think about the hectic schedule he has, and the weighty news announcement this morning, that is quite special. Lee couldn't be more relaxed, As you probably know, we have one very special gaffer there.

Steve Avery also spent a lot of time chatting to him and encouraging.

What a day, what a club

Maybe not but I doubt they've spent 50 mill or whatever to keep us ticking over nicely in the championship.
  • Have a pre planned trip to Cornwall this weekend so not able to attend tomorrow and I'm bloody envious of all who are going.

if i ever get a chance of   doing it i want it to bounce fully off the bar back to the edge of the box where i then volley it top bins , realistically i stub my toe in to the floor and it dribbles 3 ft and i go down as the crappiest ever attempt amongst a load of shit

Sheikh Saeed Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan

Have we been taken over by a Dustman?
Not sure I like the sound of this.
This is really naff, as are references to tea towels.  For fecks sake, people, show a bit of respect to those of a different race or culture.

(For your information, Bin means 'son of' and the Al ... at the end is usually a reference to the person's home town or region).
It was a joke, lighten up. Suddenly You're Mother Theresa @Addick Addict ? I know what 'Bin' means. I'm as pleased as the next man!
