Stelling's role on a television is to impartially inform the audience, he's a mouthpiece for Sky (thus Sky could be accused of costing Jones his job, something I'd imagine he's likely to discuss with a lawyer). This was just a lapse imo. He's a professional 99.9% of the time, even when he does his humourous bit on the Hartlepool result. This was a big outburst, but his team are on the brink of the conference. I think most football fans would struggle to hold together in that situation even if operating in a professional capacity. People erupt with emotion all the time, I don't think Dave Jones can complain.

Chris Sutton on R5Live recently verbally slaughtered Wenger .. he should go, he's washed up etc. etc. ... managers are well paid, love the limelight, accept praise when it comes, so equally they should be big enough to accept criticism if they are doing a bad job, just like any worker would be criticised/sacked/shunned for poor work .. mind you, Sutton will look silly if Wenger/Arsenal wins the FA Cup and gets a champions league spot

Met Jeff whilst appearing as a contestant on Alphabetical recently. Really nice guy. We chatted about the state of ownership at Charlton both on and off camera. Hopefully some of it will make the broadcast as some publicity for our plight.
The thing about this is Jeff Stelling isn't a stupid man. He works for Sky Sports and he knows one thing for sure. It's that publicity gets you change. Who do you think is under more pressure; Arsene Wenger as he tries to get Arsenal to qualify for the Champions League for the 400th season in a row, or the likes of Roland and Becchetti who are actively destroying entire football clubs? It's Wenger all day.
Sky Sports focus hugely on the plight of the humble Arsenal fan, travelling away to Bayern Munich and Barcelona, seeing Sanchez and Ozil play against the top teams in the country and weeping when they don't win every game, and the little clubs get the odd mention on Soccer Saturday. By publicly ranting Jeff knew he would effect change, and it's happened. I imagine whatever happens now it's given Hartlepool their best chance of staying up. Can you blame him? Maybe it's not hugely professional but football isn't a very professional area. You get paid too much money, you kick a ball around, do some emojis on Twitter and move onto your next increased paycheck, and if you run the show you get to do whatever you feel like with no regulatory oversight while the fans get gouged on higher ticket prices every season even as the money coming in goes up. Fuck 'professionalism' and fuck Dave Jones's hurt feelings. All I hope is that whoever replaces Jeff is a massive Charlton fan and he gives a speech on our behalf half as passionate as the one Jeff gave.
